The closed quarters are misleading. Yes, the space is small and yes, the size is emphasized by the seemingly massive amounts of stock. The area isn’t really cluttered like it might seem at first glance, however. Items are organized by type and age range. Needful things for the littlest ones seem to take up the front of the store: Robeez, layette sets and age-appropriate toys. There are things for the bigger kids, too. I’ve found that all I need to do is ask and I can be shown exactly what I’m looking for. My most recent venture involved a raincoat. The sales associate who helped me was fantastic. She showed me the selection and even offered suggestions in a way that was helpful and without pressure, all while taking into consideration what my preschool age son might like. She even involved him in the process, much to his delight. The prices are reasonable, in some cases even a few dollars less than what you could expect to pay at a bigger store.

Well, winter was on the way to Ottawa(it was a totally frigid day in October) and I decided it was time to buy some winter duds for the kids. I spotted Kiddytown on Bank Street downtown and decided to pop in. I usually don’t shop in small stores — I usually buy this sort of stuff in big chain discount stores. Kiddytown was a very nice surprise. It had a wide selection of goods(suits/dresses to hats to swimwear to winter coats to toys to gloves) for boys and girls of every age. They also have merchandise at a number of prices. I found hats for as low as $ 10 and winter coats all the way up to $ 150. But, their merchandise, whether it is low cost or high, is always the big names and the best brands. They carry Columbia winter wear and Osh Kosh clothes(which are the best, if you know anything about the wear and tear kids put on clothes!). The sales help is knowledgeable and everpresent, but not a pain. The store even has items made under their own Kiddytown label. The owner was telling me that one line of his winter coats is made by a friend who makes clothes for life up in the Arctic circle! If you have kids and they need new duds, check out Kiddytown!
