*2.5 stars Definitely did not live up to the exceptional meal that I had anticipated for my breakfast this morning. The restaurant is in a cute little building with a nice ambience. The service this morning was good; the waitress who served us was kind and it didn’t take long at all for our orders to be taken and the food to arrive. In terms of the quality of the food, however, I was relatively disappointed. My boyfriend ordered a ham, scrambled egg, and cheese crêpe while I went for French-style crepes with maple syrup and we both had small sides of fruit with chocolate as well as an extra order of sausage and bacon. It all sounded great in theory, but the crepes were lacking in flavour, the sausages were dry and bland, and I was almost insulted when I saw a lump of microwaved bacon sitting on one of the plates that cost us an additional $ 3.50. After the meal, I confronted the waitress about my bacon dilemma, where she confirmed my suspicion. However, they gave us a discount on the meal because we were rather dissatisfied. Overall it wasn’t terrible, but the brunch wasn’t worth it even though the plating looks amazing. Can’t really say much about the rest of the menu.

A good chunk of my friends came here and they all enjoyed it quite a lot. The ambiance was nice and our server was helpful and there at all the right times. We tried a milk chocolate milkshake which was unbelievably delicious. It was easily my favourite part of the meal. We also ordered the 64.5% Costa Rica. This was a bit too dark and heavy for me, it was literally pure chocolate and I barely finished a quarter of it before taking the rest to go. It’s very very very chocolate-ty so keep that in mind when ordering other chocolate dishes! The grilled marshmallow order was great, except you really have to take care not to catch your marshmallow(or your sleeve) on fire! Cacao 70 was not as spectacular as I expected and I probably won’t be going back for a meal anytime soon but it was a good time nonetheless.

I went with my boyfriend on a Thursday evening. I was surprised by the number of people who were there on a weeknight. When we first went in, the hostess was nice and seated us very quickly in a secluded spot and left us our menus. They have a great variety of foods. I was actually quite surprised by it. I had never been to a restaurant that specializes in desert before this, so I didn’t really know what to expect. They have a sweet menu that lists all kinds of sweet deserts made with chocolate, a regular menus and a chocolate bar menu. We decided to share the bitter chocolate experience for 2. I strongly suggest it if it’s your first time and you’re not too sure what to pick, since it comes with a fondue, a grill(for marshmallows), fruits, hot chocolate and waffles. The food wasn’t too sweet nor too bitter. They managed to make it just right. It was very rich though, so we ended up eating about half of our food and we were full. The portions don’t seem that big, but you should never underestimate the richness! Our waiters didn’t check in on us, but when we needed them they were very quick to come. During the evening, there’s a lot of free parking on the streets surrounding the restaurant. Overall, it was an amazing experience and I am definitely going back!

This was my second time here and the service is terrible. They sat us down and completely abandoned our table as we sat waiting to take our order. Tables that were seated after us had their order taken and had their drinks delivered before we even got our order taken. We ordered one dessert between the both of us and were only given one fork. However, the cheesecake was delicious, light and airy. Such a shame the service was under par at the Byward Market location. It does not make it worthwhile to come here again.

This place brings a great idea of serving chocolate in so many different ways. The Mexico was tasty but they all come in HUGE portions that I can never finish and hate to leave it on the table. Reduce the portion of the hot chocolate and make them more enjoyable/more affordable. We found the servers in a constant rush. They could have been more attentive to each table.

Great dessert and plenty of options for those in love with chocolate. Dishes are plated well and quantity plenty. Come here hungry. The servers are also a delight.

Have been to Cacao70 twice now. It’s a great place for desserts, the décor is cute and it’s in a good location. My boyfriend swears by their chocolate & raspberry milkshake. He isn’t the type that likes sweets and he rarely ever asks to go somewhere twice, but we returned the 2nd time at his request. I tried the fondue with fruits, brownie and waffle. The chocolate was very smooth and delicious. It was as expected. My favorite though was the hot chocolate. You are given a cup with melted chocolate in the bottom and a container of steamed milk. Pour that steamed milk into the melted chocolate cup and have a careful sip. HEAVEN! I don’t know how I can ever have hot chocolate any other way or anywhere else. My only complaint is the service. The waitresses we have had both times were not as friendly as they could be, they seemed lost and confuse more than anything else and they barely ever checked on us, even though the place wasn’t all that busy both times. Cacao70 could definitely improve on their customer services, with training their waitresses even just a little. Otherwise, everything else was great! Will be returning to try more of the menu soon.

I went to this location for a late night snack as they are conviniently open very late compared to many other places in the byward market. As for the service, Our orders were taken pretty fast and arrived shortly after(about 5 – 10 mins). Everything went smoothly and the waiter was very friendly. I ordered the choco nut waffle which comes with vanilla ice cream, bananas and strawberries and it was delicious. Even though it was definetely not a small portion, the whole thing wasnt too sweet or heavy. The price was ok, maybe a bit expensive. Would definitely come again.

OMG — chocolate fondue(dark, semi, milk, and even white available) that was SO good! Comes with chocolate brownies, waffle pieces, and cut fruit(apples, strawberries, pineapple, and bananas). Delicious treats in a lovely café. Open late in the ByWard Market and other locations. Many other yummy treats available including ice cream, crepes, and s’mores!

I really like this place. It has the great vibe and the service was good. I like the fact that they have a huge selection of cocoa from different countries and can add liquor to it. Nothing much to say about what I ordered though. I had crêpe and it kind of has the same taste as everywhere else. Maybe I’ll try the waffle next time. I heard thats their best seller.

Uno de mis lugares favoritos en ottawa para el desayuno. Aunque para mi gusto las porciones son muy grandes, la comida es rica y la atención es estupenda.

Super desserts!!! Just the portions are huge… I realized almost all the restaurants we tried in Ottawa have huge portions… The waitress said that two plates for two people are just right… It’s not… We were toooo full only eating half of them… The crêpe with cheesecake is great. The cheesecake is a bit sour but tastes perfect. The chocolate pizza with ricotta cheese is really a surprise. Never thought that ricotta cheese could have that kind of super texture with chocolate! Must try spot next time if I’m in Ottawa again!

First time I try the Cacao 70 chain. I went in the Ottawa restaurant with my girlfriend for a little treat after our dinner. The waiters all seemed a bit confused. One of them handed me a burning hot glass for water– probably not the best/safest idea. We ordered the milk chocolate fondue for two. It came with plenty of fresh-ish fruits and little bites of brownies and waffles. The brownies was honestly disgusting, tasted like flour and oil. The chocolate, on the other hand, was pretty good although it was a bit liquidity. Overall we had a decent experience but I wouldn’t go back there. There’s other better options in Ottawa that will satisfy your sweet tooth.

The plate we got was too small to unpeeled all our fruit, and the meals we got were three times the size my boyfriend and I could hope to finish. The tables weren’t that amazing and the place was way too loud. On the bright side, the service was pretty good. All of the women working there were young and bubbly.

Yup, I’m a fan. It’s a place full of chocolate. What is not to love? We were served quickly. I ordered the grilled marshmallows, a.k.a. SMORES! Who doesn’t love smores? They even bring a flame to your table. Amazing! Also the melted peanut butter was a nice touch. They aren’t overpriced either. The place can get a little loud but it isn’t too bad. My only complaint is that the server felt like he was rushing us out a bit. He kept trying to take our plates away when we were just taking a break, not finished. We had to remind the waiter several times that we were still ok. Other than that, the place was great. I’d go back for some chocolately goodness :)

2 occasions I went here. First time was not busy but took very long to take order. 15m passed and we decided to leave until we put our coats on waitress decides to try and take order. We went somewhere else with better service. Second time went with a friend today, it was very busy and I understand that. 15m passed still no one came to take our order until I finally got up and went to the hostess/busgirl and ask if someone can take our order. We were not impressed… finally we got in our order after 30m when it should take less then 15m. Maybe they should put more staff on the floor and not one person. Food was okay, not worth all the hype plus we got dirty utensils. We got the tutti frutti waffle.

Cacao 70 is the place to be for all individuals who have a sweet tooth, including myself. When you walk inside the establishment, you immediately smell the amazing chocolate from their handmade chocolates to their dessert creations. It is a great place to be at, especially on a cold, winter day. The service was very good as the waiters were very attentive and they even made some good recommendations for myself and my friend to try. Cacao 70 prides themselves in using various varieties of chocolate for their desserts from S’mores to Crepes to Belgian Waffles to the classic Chocolate Fondue. The prices for the desserts are a bit pricey, but it is well worth the price as you can’t just gen enough of their dessert creations.

My friends and I came here on a Tuesday afternoon, it wasn’t busy but we were seated in front of the exit door which blew in cold air every time it was opened(It was a windy winter day). There is a menu just for hot chocolate and chocolate desserts and I did enjoy reading all the different types of chocolate from around the world. There is another dessert menu near the end of the main menu though. But I settled for the American Hot Chocolate which was creamy and of course — chocolatey. For lunch, I got the Turkey and cheese crêpe with salad. The salad came with a lemon dressing, and everything was tasty. Everyone else also enjoyed there meals and drinks. My friend said that her drink, the Champurrado, was very good. The service was ok, the waitress took our order without writing it down and came back couple minutes later to ask us to repeat our order. I did enjoy the food and I would come back to try the different types of hot chocolate they offer.

When you walk into Cacao 70 the name immediately is justified; the smell of chocolate is overwhelming. If you love chocolate you should definitely give this place a shot, the only trouble is choosing what to order. We had the fondue which was delicious. They also have a sharing plate which has a combination of everything which I will try next time. I think this place would be really good on a cold day for hot chocolate. They have a hot chocolate menu where you choose your type of chocolate and they then melt it down and serve with a side of milk for you to mix yourself. I would have given this place a 5 however the service was a bit inattentive, I think it would be really beneficial if they gave an explanation of what the 3 different menus were for. For example, the menu listing out the types of chocolate is actually the hot chocolate which they melt down, we didn’t find out what it was until after we received our dessert and may have ordered differently as a result. The other thing is that it really isn’t cheap, a hot chocolate runs you about 9 bucks and the average dessert is around $ 12 – 15.

Came here with friends for crepes and dessert after dinner. It was quite hot in there so we didn’t stay for a long time. Really excellent service! We tried a spicy hot chocolate which was actually too spicy and didn’t enjoy it at all. The mint choc ice cream was really delicious. The volcano was really nice but a big dessert. I would definitely go back. One thing I didn’t like was the 3 menus that you are handed. It was a bit overwhelming and we had a hard time ordering.
