This independent is ok. It’s somewhere between the upper middle stores like longos and loblaws and the lower end freshco, food basics. The butcher looked ok, but had minimal selection. The fresh section was very mediocre as well. The selection of fresh herbs was severely lacking. They did seem to have a nice selection of prepackaged goods though. That being said, I’m not sure how frequently I’ll come here as the produce, fish and meat are my staples. It’s a shame as this is the closest store to me. I would have imagined in an area surrounded my million dollar homes it would have been a little better. Maybe I’m just too picky with my food.

This place used to be great in terms of freshness and I don’t mind paying a higher price for the convenience. But… the last few times I’ve been there I have noticed that many items are already beyond their freshness date. For example today is November 5th and when trying to find hotdog wieners I found many with an October date. The breads are typically stocked within only 2 days of the expiration date. For these prices I expect more.

Good selection of not your average type fruit and vegetables which I always appreciate. Higher than average grocery-store prepared food available. Good selection of dark chocolate … reasonable dairy case but its the fruit and vegetables which are above-average here. Had some amazing figs there today which were pristine.

If you have any common sense do not shop here. This place is an oversized dump that needs to go under just like the other store on Burnamthrope did. A carton of blood orange juice for 13.99? Are you kidding? Moldy lemons, apples, and pears that are over priced? Why would you even bother coming here? Just why. However if you really want answers as to why you shouldn’t shop here, get friendly with one or two of the floor workers and watch what they will tell you about the ways business is done. I’ve been told mold is often wiped off of fruit if it can be wiped off, and placed back for sale in the reduced produce section. If you have any sense go to Don Mills and Finch to No Frills or over to Yonge and Finch to Metro. Hopefully this place goes under soon.

I love independent Food/Grocery Markets. I just love how a lot of them have really interesting selections of products from the main stream large chain supermarkets. Galati Market Fresh is one of those independent food markets that I enjoy browsing and shop a little. I like how they carries coffee from local coffee roasteries: 23 degrees and Reunion Island. And they even sell Reunion Island in bulk! I always find the fruit and vegetables a lot fresher and even the bakery selections are better! Cashiers here are cheerful. Always a great shopping experience! Check their weekly fliers online as their weekly sale pricing are quite good too!

I’ve lived in the area for nearing 16 years now and Galati has been our go to supermarket in the area for the majority of the time. I honestly am surprised at the quality and ingredients you can find there, and it’s not even as expensive as Loblaws(a.k.a. Lowblows) or Longos! I’ve never had trouble finding any ingredient for any of my obscure cooking adventures and their service is great for a grocery store(I’ve seen many times how people will ask staff how to pick the best watermelon and they would gladly cut one up to prove how juicy they are!) . It’s still one of my favorite grocery stores and make sure to check them out in the summer; they turn the parking lot into a flower /plant warehouse! And finally if you’re looking for a good and quick dinner for the family, they have tasty roast chicken with a baguette and boxed salad dinner special for cheap($ 10? or so)!

SHUTTHEFARMDOOR!!! This place is awesome!!! In fact, the whole plaza is pretty peachy keen too. But, I will get to that in a minute. I think in a previous life I was Italian. So, as a former Italian, I think this Italian market brings me back to my roots. First off, they have prepared Italian foods(hello veal, lasagna, ravioli). I have yet to try them, but am thinking I will be lazy and buy some and invite people over for dinner. Sometimes, that’s just how I roll. For a medium sized store, they have quite a large variety of fruits and veg. Both kinds of mango’s, Sharon fruit( ), key limes, etc. I think my next trip I will try the Sharon fruit. Although, it is not from my Italian heritage, there are some from my Mexican heritage(oh, didn’t I mention, I was also Mexican and Indian in past lives. Cool, yep — that is me). Anyhoo, Galati also has all of these *gasp* items that I love: — Open Window breads — Harmony Organic dairy — Small batches of rugelach — Bagel World products — Rowe bacon As for prices, not too bad. This place has extremely friendly and helpful staff, is very clean, and it isn’t too crowded. I think the little bit extra in cost works out in the wash for the sanity you will save from shopping here. Now, as for the plaza, it is pretty stocked. Shoppers, Dollar Store, TD, Tim Hortons, Curves, Pickle Barrel, Esso, etc. The plaza is situated just north of Finch. I highly recommend if you are at IKEA down the street, drop on into Galati’s and check out their veg, fruit, prepared foods, and baked goods. Ciao!

This is our local market for ‘better stuff’. They keep good hours, have a beautiful store, and provide great service. They sport a large variety of prepared foods adjacent to a great deli and cheese counter. They have a the full gamut of specialty breads, and carry a wide variety of artisan cheeses. This is not a generic by the number, ‘by President’s Choice’ outfit. They are full service and pleasant about it. Once a year in the fall, by invitation, they host their clientele for a tasting of all of their suppliers products. From raw oysters, to the finest cakes, they are all featured. This function builds great loyalty, and it is quite a fun and yummy evening. We have discovered many new products from new suppliers. It would be rated a 5Star, but as a smaller independent, it cannot compete on a price basis, particularly in packaged goods. This is a great store and we visit it regularly.
