Upon walking around my neighbourhood, I encountered the friendly troll which is located between an italian food store and an adult store. The store outlay is nice but their prices are not competitive. None of their products have price tags on them so you have to ask the employee«how much?» constantly. For trading card players, they specialize only in Magic: the Gathering. They base their prices of singles solely off Starcity online prices. They have boxes of unsorted magic cards just lying around and sometimes the binders are a bit of a mess. To me, this seems like the staff there are too lazy to sort the cards or just do not mind about the mess. Service is not too bad as they are the friendly troll. However, I found one employee on my previous visits giving me not great customer service. This employee tried to sell me items that I did not need and on another visit, he would be playing with his friends/customers and would just ignore me while I was looking around or needed help. These visits made my visits to the friendly troll unpleasant.

Okay, yes, these people are very friendly. I came in here just to browse and found that they have a vast collection of games, many that I would like to purchase some day. I settled on a set of Pirate Fluxx cards. I paid with the very helpful and friendly people and gleely pranced off. There were a few people there playing some card games, eating and just generally hanging out. It had a really casual atmosphere to it, though it seemed that there were no chairs around the gaming tables. I’d go back again to get some more games.

Very disappointed! Pricing of magic cards was a little high compared to other stores. Staff was not very helpful. Overall a disappointing experience.

I’ve been to a lot(A LOT) of game stores in my day. The Friendly Troll(great name, btw) used to be just down the street as The Two Headed Dragon. This venue is definitely a better one, but it’s still not that good. Play space is located right by the entrance, meaning when I get there the first thing I see is a dozen or so magic players. The counter is way in the back of the store, and the clerk was unobtrusive. Call me crazy, but first time in a shop, I’d like a little patter and greeting. The selection is okay, although prices seem to be not exactly competitive. They seem to be focusing on board games, with some RPG and miniatures content. It’s a good shop, and it would be good for North Yorkers to have a dedicated game shop on Yonge other than the misbegotten Hairy T North. I suppose if you don’t like it you can always go to the Aren’t We Naughty next door and pick up some dice or something.

Holy, Android’s Dungeon. The Friendly Troll is your friendly neighborhood role playing store. There are central tables ready to host various miniature and collectible card game tournaments. You have your standard post-T$R games: Magic: the Addictio… err the Gathering, Warhammer 40K, Settlers of Catan, board games, and some AD&D manuals I no longer recognize or vouch for. There are various miniatures. You’ll find all manner of platonic solid randomizers. Maybe a dice bag or two. Unlike the sneering round boy of Android’s Dungeon, Friendly Troll seemed to be «manned» by a pleasant, friendly woman. And if there’s anything more scary to a role player besides a balrog, it’s a girl. A real live girl. OMFG.
