I had a very enjoyable dinner and this what I can remember. We didn’t make a reservation. However, we were lucky that we were able to get to sit in. Oops… at the bar facing the kitchen? We doubted a moment. Ended up we enjoyed watching the chefs busy cooking and decorating our food and other customers’ food. There were several chefs in the kitchen and they were all professionally friendly and willing to interact with us. Except, I believe, the head of chef was a bit too cool and didn’t want to make eye contact with us. In general, we received very good service, good food and good wine. The restaurant provides wine tasting with charcuterie & cheese plate in a separate wine-tasting room located just few steps away. A good place to try few more wines with cheese and dry meat, and a good chat with the very wine-knowledgable bartender after a nice dinner.

Great ambiance, superb service, delicious food. Situated in a great neighborhood, this restaurant serves some of the freshest food that can be found anywhere. Two to three chefs put in tons of effort to make every dish memorable. Mushroom soup is quite good. Eggs are delicious. Try ordering a local white wine. Dessert is their weakest section of the menu, but still quite good. Worth the trip for anyone visiting the Canadian side of Niagara Falls.

Wonderful dining experience! It was pricey but food was delicious, service was amazing. Our waitress was very knowledgeable about the wine selection. We had the pleasure to sit at the kitchen bar and watched how the chefs cooked. Appreciate all their effort put into the dishes. Last but not the least, for a person coming from Toronto downtown, the red wine beef short ribs was one of the best thing I have ever had! I would definitely recommend anyone coming to Niagara to dine at this restaurant. Remember to make reservation as the dining room is relatively small.

Came in here for a dinner with no reservations on a Wednesday night in early December. Got a great seat at the bar where we watched the the young female chef working hard all night making great food with basic fresh ingredients. Order some appetizers and watch the food being prepped and I bet you’ll decide on your main course based on the food you see coming out. After ordering and watching, we were disappointed that we didn’t try the short ribs. However, everything we ordered was excellent. Started with the gnocchi and«24 month aged» prosciutto and both were great though the gnocchi is don’t miss! Had the attic char and my friend had the mussel pasta. Top notch though we disagree on which was better. I preferred the char though the best thing on the plate was the duck fat potatoes. Super Yum! And anyone who’s never tried sea buckthorn needs to try the sea buckthorn sorbet. Unique and delicious. Overall a great meal, good wine and a great time watching the open kitchen.

I can only assume that the previous posters who raved about this place don’t get out much, and if they do, they’re going to Panera or Chilli’s. This place was nothing to write home about. Short version: Skip this place. Thumbs down, all the way around. Long version: Problem #1: We showed up on a Saturday with no reservations, which I knew wasn’t the best idea and may have to wait a while, which would have been fine. Instead of being given the option of waiting, we were told they had no tables.(Mind you, with the view from where I was standing I could see at least 6 empty tables and seats at the bar. But, maybe they were expecting 30+ people any minute. I’m thinking not). When we asked if we could wait to see if something opened up she pretty much told us no, but we could go to the wine bar across the alley and would be able to order from their menu there. Um… Ok. Strange, but ok. We attempted to do that and the very snobby bar tender at the wine bar looked at us like we had three heads. We explained what the hostess had told us to him. He huffed, walked out to talk to her and came back to tell us that she was wrong. Problem #2: Upon leaving, we walked back by the hostess station only to overhear a different person telling a couple who had just walked up that it was«no problem» that they didn’t have reservations and seated them right away. Problem #3: The next day I called and made reservations for the that evening(at 5:30 because that’s all they had) and specifically confirmed that we would be seated at a table and not the bar. When we arrived, they attempted to seat us at the bar. She really resisted seating us at a table and she had to go tell a manager that we specifically requested a table in order to seat us at a table. Side note: There were TWO people in the restaurant when we arrived! Every single seat, except for the two they were sitting in, were open. And the table to the right of us stayed empty the entire time we were there, as well as several seats at the bar, so it’s not as if the place was booked. Problem #4: The food was so average. We started with the gnocchi, which actually was decent, but there was almost no gnocchi in the dish. My fish, which the server suggested, had absolutely no flavor. It might as well have been tofu. The potatoes that it was sitting on tasted exactly like breakfast hashbrowns. Fortunately, I like breakfast hashbrowns but I don’t want to over pay for them with tasteless fish. My husband had the short ribs, which were just ok. The highlight of the meal were the two chocolate chip cookies that my husband asked for when we saw a lady a couple of tables down eating them. We learned that they aren’t on the menu. They’re only served with coffee. And when I say they were the highlight, they weren’t great. They were just better than anything else. Problem #5: When the server asked how everything was and responded with a not very excited«okay…», she didn’t seem to notice or care. She moved along to whatever she was doing next. Yes, I could have outright complained, but after our preview of the customer service with the hostess and bar tender from the night before, I really didn’t think it would matter and I was too annoyed to mess with it.

Service is 5 stars Mussels in fennel cream sauce 5 stars Pepper soup 4.5 stars Everything else we ordered was just ok! Pretty pricey too! The Lobster Club needs more Lobster!!! Couldn’t even taste it and For $ 24 I expected a lot better product than what was served. The bacon over powers the seafood. The house made flatbread needs to be readdressed and changed out for a better and more tasteful and substantial bread. The steak and blue cheese sandwich on a focaccia roll was a lack luster portion of the lunch as well. This establishment needs to address the quality of their products and the price points are a bit high! The staff however is very helpful, polite and attentive! We probably won’t revisit… But lovely part of Canada!

Sometimes it makes sense to wait until you have experienced a restaurant a few times before reviewing it. That is only true of course when you at least like it the first time. If it does not make the grade one should spread the news right away. We have been to Treadwell three times this year and it has been closer to great than good every time. I can’t quite understand how anyone could«pan» this spot. If the service is not downtown Toronto, so what? We will back often, we love it.

Great food with great service. Highly recommend sitting at the kitchen table. Chefs were approachable and interesting to watch. Menu is very local. The back of it has local vendor descriptions that are currently providing products to the restaurant. We shared an appetizer which was labeled on the menu as Herb and Potato gnocchi with charred local sweet corn. Instead it came out with butternut squash, Brussel sprout leaves and fried sage leaves. No matter, it was fantastic. We both had the Sesame and Hoison glazed short ribs which were fantastic. Dessert was sticky toffee pudding. It was good but it would’ve been hard to top the app and entrée.

Oh my goodness, where to start with the WONDERFUL experience we had recently at Treadwell. Our group of 27(family reunion) we seated to a spectacular dining experience in Treadwell’s private party room/wine cellar. We had an entire room to ourselves, which was perfect for our huge party, although warning, it’s a wine cellar and get’s noisy(especially if you have young people in your group!) Our group had a pre-planned menu with three courses(three options in each course – see photos!). In addition to the very hands-on waitresses, we also had the events manager helping our group the entire time with everything from wine pairs to bringing coloring books to the six children under the age of five. Where/if any of the food lacked in flavor, the experience was made up for a thousand times with the incredible kindness shown to our group. The kids were even invited up to the kitchen following dinner to meet the chef! I started the evening with a Queen’s Street Refresher(I hope to recreate this eventually at home!) with local sparkling wine, gin, Elderflower liquor and grapefruit. You begin your evening by choosing wine pairs, a red and wine for appetizers and entrees, and receive complimentary bread and butter. From our pre-fixed menu, I ordered the prosciutto, served with preserved lemon, arugula and a balsamic reduction. Delicious combination although I hear the scallop dish was the highlight for appetizers. For the main course I had to go with sesame and hoisin glazed beef short ribs with a cauliflower purée, pickled red onions and summer vegetables. Incredibly tender and flavorful. The dessert was probably the most disappointing part of the meal. I went with the strawberry mess with crunchy meringue strawberry sorbet(my sister nicknamed this the«healthy» option later). I was imagining a strawberry crumble but it turned out to be strawberries and whipped cream topped with odd sugar«chunks” – the meringue. My brother, a chef, said the rosemary crème brûlée stole the show. Dessert is served with a coffee menu, which was the perfect way to settle down after the incredible meal. I would head back to Treadwell in a heartbeat. They also have an open kitchen surrounded by bar seating, this seems like an ideal spot for me! Warning to the wise, make a reservation if possible or be ready to wait for a seat.

A little sad we couldn’t get dinner reservations during our stay, but instead had an amazing Sunday brunch. I had the lobster club, my hubs had the Sunday Roast which was a Rosemary chile rubbed porchetta. We split the Rosemary frites with malt vinegar mayo. Every last detail was perfectly seasoned, playful, and thoughtful. Love the farm to table concept and the experience of regional cusine. We will be back for dinner for sure!

If you live in Rochester, worth the drive for Sunday Brunch. Sat at the Kitchen Bar. Had the Lobster & Duck Fat Club Sandwich & Pork Belly eggs Benedict. Amazing. Chef gave us a complimentary heirloom tomato & peach salad. Finished with the dark chocolate & sea salt Carmel tart. Everything was great. Wonderful atmosphere & crazy nice staff. Highly recommend.

We had checked in at 124 on Queen and needed a place to eat. Little did we know there was a place RIGHT next door. Treadwell’s had a huge wait and it was a Sunday afternoon, but luckily our concierge was able to reserve us a spot at the Kitchen Bar. If you have the chance, I’d highly recommend sitting there. You get to see the cooks shouting out orders and making the food. It was pretty amazing to see them plate your dish. Kinda like watching an episode of Kitchen Nightmare, with far less swearing. We ordered the rosemary frites and the fried halibut. Both were delicious and decently priced. I know this place is more on the expensive side, but for the portions and quality; it’s worth it. Everything is VERY fresh tasting, and with them working with the ‘farm-to-table’ model, you know that nothing has been waiting in storage, ready to be heat up in the microwave. The wait staff was fantastic, and if it’s late night for you, they have a Wine Bar that’s off to the side that had flights that were 3x2oz. Very fantastic in the Niagara-On-The-Lake wine country!

*FANTASTICDATE/DRINK SPOT!* I came here twice with my boyfriend as we’ve heard it is a cute little resto-bar to have a drink. The 1ST time we came after a concert and we were greeted and seated promptly and we sat on the patio. Beautiful lighting, no music but the sound of the water-fountain gave it that nice relaxing sound. We ordered to two beers that were locally made and local charcuterie with condiments that paired really well with the beer. The 2ND time was our anniversary and had already had dinner so just wanted to stop by the Wine Bar for a drink. Since we had dinner at a local winery we decided to have Brandy instead. Unfortunately the service was a little slow and the bartender didn’t seem to be knowledgeable about anything other than wine. I guess maybe because it’s a wine bar o one really orders anything else but then why have it as an option behind the bar if you don’t know too much? That being said our 2nd visit didn’t ruin our 1st. It is a LOVELY date spot, before or after a theatre show in town or just a night away from the city.

Amazing! :) I had a great experience at Treadwell — the food was very fresh and service was excellent. We reserved the patio for a lunch session — a comfortable and breezy area. DRINKS: Chardonnay («Cuvee Dix Neuvieme», Pearl Morissette 2011) Great pairing with the main dishes that we’ve ordered. PANSEAREDEASTCOASTSCALLOPS(5⁄5) (with Caramelized Cauliflower, «Pingue’s» Guanciale, Caper Vinaigrette) This was excellent. The outer layer of the scallops was crispy while the middle remains it’s freshness — great start to our meal! CRISPYSKINNORTHATLANTICMACKERELFILET(4.5÷5) (Potato and Chive Salad, Poached Free Range Egg) I wanted to grab something on the lighter end and decided on the mackerel filet. This was very fresh! Loved it. The poached egg yolk is used as a sauce for the filet — everything was light and healthy. The veggies were so fresh(definitely a farm to table item haha) — I think it did win over the mackerel! HOUSEMADEPASTAWITH«CUMBRAEFARMS» PORKBOLOGNESE(3⁄5) (Spring Mushrooms, Lemon Gremolata) Plus points for making this a non-fatty pasta — but I guess due to the lightness of the meal, it was lacking a bit of flavour for me. I’d prefer if they added more of a cream-base sauce for the bolognese. DESSERTS: Crème brûlée(3.5÷5) It was a little mushy for my liking. The top layer(sugar coating) was delicious though! Panna Cotta(5⁄5) This was one of my favourites! The panna cotta wasn’t too sweet, the blueberries and raspberries(which was more on the sour-y side) worked so well with the dish. It was an excellent end to our meal — definitely satisfied :)

This is a true«gem» in Niagara-on-the-lake! Excellence is in the details and this restaurant does not disappoint from the reservation until the last sip of my espresso – I was truly impressed! The braised short ribs and the whitefish were terrific but the overall execution of the business was what caught my attention! They strive to set a new standard in service and it clearly shows in everything they do. When we made reservations the hostess asked if we had any food allergies or if we were celebrating a special occasion. When we sat at the kitchen bar we were immediately impressed by the appearance of the staff, the clear division of labor/tasks and the strong processes in place in the kitchen. Although none of the kitchen staff appeared older than 25, the execution of work was outstanding. This kitchen operated as a «well-oiled machine,» offering many lessons for any small business! Thank you for an impressive dining experience.

Pricey but excellent farm-to-table restaurant in NOTL. If you’re here for a vacation, definitely eat here for a meal. My friends and I chose to sit at the bar because you can see the food being prepared and also scope out options if you’re not sure what to try. I had the house made pasta with pulled chicken, local mushrooms, and crème fraîche. Incredibly delicious! Also, nice selection of local wine and beer(when I’m visiting Canada I love to try out the local brews). Will definitely come back here for lunch because it’s more affordable but not sure if I would splurge on dinner, especially with other great options near by.

Exceptionally good food. I was pleasantly surprised to find that Treadwell stands up against some of my top restaurants in San Francisco and New York. My wife and I shared all dishes and the kitchen very kindly split all plates for us. We had the scallops, gnocchi, short ribs and duck. All amazing. Then shared the crème brûlée with kumquat sorbet — sooo good! Service and wine also excellent. Its a pricey place but worth every penny. Would definitely go back.

Abby and I have eaten here twice(on two different vacations, about a year apart), and had an outstanding experience both times. We made reservations ahead to sit at the counter which looks into the kitchen. It’s a neat experience to watch the chefs preparing the food and plating it up, etc. The staff is very friendly and helpful. They have a full bar available, and a couple local beer taps, but Abby and I have only ever had wine here. The wine list is a bit pricey, particularly for the glasses, but they are very generous glass pours and they are good wines. As for the food, I can’t say enough good things. We had the homemade herbed gnocchi with chorizo for a starter this time. It was killer, and they split it onto two plates for us. Abby had the procuitto-wrapped chicken, and I had the ribeye steak. Her chicken was tender, moist, and delicious. My ribeye was perfectly done and gigantic(12 oz. I think)! We wanted desert, but were both stuffed after dinner and didn’t have room. But the tiramisu in a cup looked very good.

Cute farm to table restaurant in the downtown of Niagara on the Lake. The service was very friendly, and entertaining. And the feel of the restaurant itself was very relaxing. We sat outside and were close to the water feature. My girlfriend and I came here for brunch after my sister’s wedding, which was in the area. We shared a smoked bacon pancake, and I suggest you do the same, or get your own. It’s a thick pancake. And it is salty and sweet. There is a bit of salt sprinkled on top of it. We also got the Chef’s Breakfast, and the Crispy Skin Mackerel. The skin on the mackerel was definitely crispy and delicious. If you don’t like fishy tasking fish, you won’t like mackerel FYI. The egg was perfectly poached and had a nice orange colour to it. The combo of the fish, potato salad, and egg was definiteily great. The chef’s breakfast was good, but when the menu said bacon rashers, I assumed it was going to be something other than sliced bacon, but that’s all it really means. The baked beans were more tomatoy than expected. Overall it was good. If you are looking for a filling meal after a night of heavy drinking this might not be the brunch for you. But if you are looking for tasty bites while sipping a drink while in Niagara on the Lake, it just might be.

Great fresh and tasty food! Loved sitting at the kitchen bar too and seeing them cook our meal!
