Subway is what it is and normally wouldn’t warrant a review. However, I was stuck up in the old garment district for a few days and Subway was a life saver. The old garment district is a barren wasteland of decaying warehouses crisscrossed with nearly abandoned railroad tracks and the fading remnants of what was clearly a better past. Generally there’s nary a reason to visit the area and I’d recommend avoiding it if at all possible. However, if you are up there the Subway is a saviour as alternative food options if they exist are pretty forgettable. Expect a lineup at lunch but it’s efficient and moves along quickly. The employees are well trained and friendly. For the week I was up there I visited frequently and never had stale bread or wilted lettuce and they weren’t afraid to pile on the pickles or olives. The real highlight of the place, and the one thing that saved me was the fact that they open early in the morning and serve pretty decent coffee, it’s Seattle’s Best if I recall. Granted all you get is standard American style drip coffee, but that’s really all you need. Subway saved me when I was exiled to the otherwise barren garment district. Coffee and sandwiches, what more do you need.
