Second Cup

I agree with fellow Unilocaler Whitefeather — the staff here is pretty damned fabulous.
It’s a sleepy little area in NDG but it’s next to the Loyola Concordia campus, so it has lots of students during the day.
Go visit — the store is lovely, the staff is wonderful, the product is always consistently good.
If you don’t like chains, you may be surprised by this place. It’s a little quirky, which is what most folks like at a coffee shop.
Go order something, choose a seat and relax… this place is built for it.

This is a franchise coffee place so I’m not expecting much. I’m gonna rate it on an overall scale where I’m comparing it to other coffee shops like tims or Starbucks. I got a hot chocolate and it was very watered down and disappointing. I also ordered a brownie and it was heated up so that was nice. The staff are welcoming and very polite when taking orders. You can stay there for as long as you want and the wifi works perfectly. Good for small group meetings from Loyola.

This particular Second Cup has something really special going on. The staff, THE STAFF! Such upbeat, quirky, friendly, patient, competent staff, every single time I come here for my midday Americano. Consistency is everything! I’m thinking they must have the best manager on the planet because the good feels just wash over you as soon as you come in the door.
Also, it’s a good thing I don’t live near this place because I’d be having one too many almond croissants per week for my liking. The treats are all good — I’ve never been disappointed.
Finally, I’m fussy about coffee but their espresso-​based drinks definitely get my approval. Always good, made with love.
Ample seating indoor and out, comfortable and relaxed.
Kudos, guys! You’re doing everything right!

Is Second Cup about coffee?
Hubby & I are on a walk tonight and we decide on our way home to detour to Second Cup on Sherbrooke for a «special» coffee. We walk in and we order, to then be told that it will be a 10 minute wait because they are cleaning the espresso machine. .
…Um, really?! You are cleaning the coffee machine during open business hours?! We asked if the machine was actually off and they said yes. It would have taken more time for it to properly warm up too, because it is an espresso machine.
We walked out. How many others walked out? 10 minutes to wait for a coffee to go (unless you wanted the drip stuff without milk), is preposterous!
Additionally, their baked goods are usually not fresh but they’ll be happy to sell you an old muffin from early in the morning that is crusty & dry at the end of the day for full price.
Totally unimpressed and we left empty handed.
That’s the worst a business could do, I think.

Not being a coffee person, it is harder than most to get me to like a coffee shop. Fortunately for me this one is near home and happens to be the absolute BEST Second Cup there is.
The staff at this location are hands down the most friendly and hardworking coffee shop staff I’ve seen and they also happen to work amazingly well as a team. You think the local Starbucks team look in-​sync when they hit the rush? I bet you that this team has them beat and they’ll be grinning ear to ear the whole time. Even when I sit to enjoy my tea and get my new downloading session underway, I can hear one of the counter guys talking to a little kid about how much milk they go through, and how he grew a whole foot in a year from how much milk he drank. Super sweeties who give the absolute best service despite being the only java option in the area. It is one of those places that reminds you that the service is what counts.

Best friendliest staff on the planet! Location is clean, welcoming and warm.
Second Cup isn’t my preferred coffee location, but this specific location has something that others don’t. Its a warm family feeling.
How can you go wrong with a staff that is friendly, patient and all have a great sense of humour.

Homemade Italian sodas, great seasonal lattes, and, well, baked goods. I stop in occasionally for a grilled turkey wrap on a spinach tortilla and a latte.
The seating can be sparse during peak hours, so you might be left standing for a few minutes if the place is busy.
