This place is so cool. Took my 3 year old there and it’s neat to go see. I love trains — as does he(Apple doesn’t fall far from the tree). You can take a ride on an old train, and go through the big museum and see old subway cars and the like. Recommended. Fun times for a few hours.

What a great place to take the kids. I was so impressed given that it’s all done by people who volunteer their time. I’ve been with my family several times and it’s always growing and improving. The service is great, staff are very positive and know the history of all the cars. They also hold an annual Halloween event that is a must-do. Nothing like taking a rickety-old streetcar on a ride through the forest at night!

I highly recommend this operation. If you’re staying in Toronto and don’t have a car, then do as I did and take GO Bus 31 for two hours to the town of Rockwood and then walk for @1 hr to get to the museum. I certainly was determined and rightly so. There are four locations on the property of interest. The restoration shed is not open to the public but you can look from the bay doors and see the work; the display shed and adjoining shed which house some of the the collection; the few PCC cars located at the end of the track; the loading area where passengers board the cars. I visited on a Sunday and it certainly was busy. The store sells coffee, drinks, pastries and candy and also toys and books. I must add that the store sells a guidebook which details the rolling stock in the collection.

Not the largest or most extensive collection I’ve seen, but a very nice one, especially the 1913 London and Port Stanley car, which is gorgeous. Four cars were running the day we visited with more to explore in the barn. The old Rockwood station is lovingly restored and contains some interesting information about various streetcar lines. Ice cream shop is in a converted street car. Staff are very knowledgeable and enthusiastic — and are all volunteers! Nice place for a short day trip. There are some other points of interested nearby including an ostrich farm.

I came here with a friend as I am a huge fan of street cars. We were pleased that they were open the first week of September since Labour Day was so late this year. This place is great for kids and fun for grownups too. There were 3 trains running and we took them into the forest and back again. The ice cream shop wasn’t open the day we were there, but the snack bar was able to fill our snacking needs. If you want to bring a picnic lunch, there are tables on both at the entrance and at the last stop. It’s a bit more peaceful on the end and there were tons of frogs in the little lily pond in the garden loop. Along with the trains are very knowledgeable railway drivers who tell wonderful stories on the various streetcars. Don’t forget to stop into the barn where you can check out the different cars in the shop. If your kids like to climb and explore, this place will keep them busy.
