Avocados, eggs for breakfast? Sign me up! I initially went here because my usual coffee shop was torn down. They started off with Pilot coffee then switched to O-Joe’s. Not sure where the coffee aspect is heading since they switched from RAW to John Q Public. The food: they make the smashed toast which is poached eggs, gucamole and whole grain bread. Amazing breakfast idea and frankly the only thing I order. Smoothies are also good including the kind that tastes good even though it contains the dubious kale. Fun to eat at! Something for everyone.

Wortley Village is starting to take shape as food destination in London, and the addition of John Q Public should help solidify that reputation. It is still early days for this café, but I can see tremendous potential. They’ve got fresh juices for the health conscious, plus an assortment of coffee and pastries for the morning crowd. Lunch has a number of sandwiches and other yummy looking items. Dinner offers more substantial fare. Basically, if you had nothing to do you’d have a good excuse to come here three times a day. They also appear to be trying daily features — including a weekend ‘family style’ serving special — which gives you that extra excuse to eat out. On our first visit we had their homemade chili, which was spiced perfectly and pulled with braised beef instead of ground beef; our daughter had a fresh naan pizza, which she thought was yummy. We got to watch the chef make our food in their open concept kitchen, which was a cool feature. Their is a lunch counter attached to the kitchen, which is also really neat. The place just opened so they’ve got the usual beginning kinks, but I can see John Q Public becoming a fixture of the village. Especially when their LLBO license comes through, because we are a thirsty neighbourhood!
