Yeah, it’s a Walmart. A Walmart that’s located in one of the most unnecessary big box areas in Waterloo Region. It’s also a Supercentre, cool. Means I can buy food here as well. I don’t have much to comment about this Walmart, just that it’s typical to many other Walmarts. One small difference between this and others is that this place does try to incorporate environmental measures, such as the addition of a solar roof, which«there are 50 units and 1,000 solar panels able to generate approximately 450,000 kWh of energy per year, or enough to power about 46 homes». Not bad for a company that’s known for petty wages, sweat shops, being one of the pioneers of income polarization, etc. This Walmart is also the closest to my home in Waterloo, so I do visit it every so often.

I know it’s cool to bash Walmart, but I am a fan of this chain of discount department store. There was a time where I would not shop at this chain. However, in these uncertain economic times, I think Walmart is a good place to shop. The selection isn’t always perfect(for example, I can’t always buy the specific peanut butter my wife likes), but the prices are fantastic(in fact they guarantee the lowest price and have a price match policy). The in-store McDonald’s restaurant gives a nice place to stop and have a break. This local Supercentre store boasts a complete grocery section with everything from soup to nuts, meat to dairy, bakery to fresh produce, as well as a full-service deli. The quality of the items are not always the best, but when a pair of jeans are priced at only $ 10, I can’t really complain, especially when you take into account their fairly liberal return and exchange policies. If you are looking to stretch your budget, and you are willing to make some compromises to get more savings, Walmart may just be the place you’re looking for.
