What more can you ask for from a free ferry service?
Bored? Just walk onto the ferry for a trip to the island. As a bonus, you get an awesome view of Kingston, Fort Henry and the Wolfe Island windmills.

Excellent free ferry from Kingston to Wolfe Island that goes regularly. Almost every hour. It takes on a lot a cars so no worries, you’ll make it to the other side.
The trip is about 20 minutes. And if you step outside your car take a seat on the backside of the ferry if you want to arrive dry .
And please excuse any grammar and spelling mistakes. English is not my first language. And my Apple device keeps changing English words into ‘proper Dutch’, my first language.

It is free, it is a fun ride, has washrooms and it is the way to do it
It was a rainy, blustery and wind crazy day and I can assure you the captain of the Ferry eased THIS BABY WITHOUT A BUMP, A SCRAPE, A SCRATCH and as precise as eyeing a thread into the eye of the needle.
It is a 20 minute ride and gets you that much closer to the wind generators. When you get off, grab a coffee, cookies, beef jerky at the corner store and take a drive around the island.

Taking a ferry from Kingston to Wolfe Island is a cool experience. The ferry ride itself is free, comes quite frequently on the hour on the weekends and takes about 20 minutes to cruise through the river to the beautiful wind mill island. The ferry takes both passengers on foot and cars to the island. The ride is relaxing and you are surrounded with beautiful sights of nature. We didn’t have much time to explore the island itself but it is remote island with lots of residents. We walked around briefly and settled down to sit next to the river, overlooking Kingston and some of the smaller islands and listening to the sound of the water. A perfectly zen experience.

The Wolfe Island Ferry is free, runs often and gets lots of people on and off Wolfe Island year round.
I love taking the ferry by car, by foot, by bike; it’s a cheap (read: free!!) thrill to visit the Island for a day, and with lots to see and do — Big Sandy Bay, Wolfe Island Bakery, Cape Vincent ferry etc — who wouldn’t want to ride the ferry all day every day?
The ride takes about 20 minutes and I’ve always had a good experience. If you haven’t been over yet, what are you waiting for?!
PS — try to avoid rush hour traffic around 4:00 — 6:00PM daily, especially in the summer. Lots of locals trying to get back home to the Island for dinner!
