Portion sizes are good. Fresh fish and the batter was nice and crispy. But… and it’s a big one… far too greasy. The fries actually had visible pools of oil as if just dumped directly from the deep fryer into the basket. And while the fish batter was crispy, underneath the surface was grease soaked. Yes, fish & chips are deep fried. However, I’d venture to guess the oil wasn’t at the correct temperature to cook the food properly. It needs to be 350 — 375 for the«seal» to be created around the food to prevent oil from soaking into it. If they corrected this, I’d say it would have been at least four stars. But I’m not wanting grease with a side of fish & chips. Fix that and you’re all set!

This place was pretty good. It was a bustling little spot the day we came. The service was fast and friendly. Having the dog with us we opted for takeout and they kindly let us know that if we ate at the furthest table we could sit with the dog. That was super nice of them. My clams and fries platter was good. R. Had fish and chips which he found a bit too greasy. Overall it was good. I don’t think for the price I’ll be running back but it’s a great option to have.

I was really in the mood for a F&C lunch and the closest place to me was Acadian Fish and Chips. I had tried them a few years ago but didn’t remember it being really good or really bad. «Probably middle of the road», I thought so worth a second try– and a review this time! The décor is kinda Maritime schtick with fishing nets, lobster traps, bouys and other salty accessories — it was like Peggy ‘s Cove got sick and threw up. Ordering at the counter, I got a very friendly greeting and plenty of «huns». The set-up here is kind of like a cafeteria but they bring you your order when it is ready. I went with the one piece which was $ 10.35 after tax. The waitress brought me my cutlery and choice of vinegar– malt of course! She even asked if I wanted the wifi password. The only drawback was the too loud muzak. Yes, muzak not music. Although I am sure the waitress would have turned it down if I had asked. The delicious looking fish and chips arrived a few minutes later. The portion was generously– sized and came with a homemade tartar sauce and coleslaw. The fries were obviously hand cut. «Wow, off to a great start!», I thought. I sampled the fries first and was struck how they could have used some– any– seasoning. Pretty bland tasting. I tucked into the fish hoping for more flavourful results. First thing I noticed was that, as I broke the coating over the fish, the grease weling up around my fork… not a good sign. The haddock fillet was kind of thin and as I investigated further it looked dry. My taste buds confirmed what my eyes suspected. Perhaps it was left in the fryer a little long for a thin piece. I sprinkled it with plenty of malt vinegar and lemon to offset the tough dryness and managed to get through it. I tried some of the tartar sauce and it tasted like so much mayo. For a while after lunch, I had the unpleasant, slick feeling in my mouth that I associate with greasy F&C. Ick! I finished quickly and left. Given how friendly she was, I was really surprised the waitress didn’t come back to check on me at any time during my meal. I was hoping Acadian would really impress me but given my mediocre experience my quest for really good F&C in HRM continues…

Went here today for supper. The place is very east coast. The waitress was very nice and amazing service. The amount of food and the size of it was so good and the price of it all was very decent too. Will be back for sure :)

This is my second review. In my first one the fish was good and my only complaint was the lack of fresh cut fries. I was happy to see the hand cut fries but the quality of the Haddock tips was really not good. The pieces were hard and chewy certainly not what I would expect with fresh Haddock. Hopefully it was just a bad day… but quality should be all they time not only some of the time.

Great spot for a quick lunch or supper if you’re looking for a fresh fish and chips. Portions are a good size, fish is fresh, clams are great, and service is as good as it gets. Neat little spot with a great atmosphere for a fish and chip restaurant. I will continue to frequent.

This is some of the best fish and chips i have ever had. Nice big pieces of fish and hot, fresh fries. The batter on the fish is nice and light and oh so crispy. Also, they serve Newfie fries! Went in with my family(11 people, as my sister and her kids were visiting) and they had no problem moving around a few tables for us to have a seat.

The staff here are very friendly and the place itself has a nice atmosphere, both the outside and the inside. It can get a little crowded inside though when it’s busy. I’m also kind of surprised they don’t have table service, the place is small enough that it would be quite easy for staff to wait tables inside, instead of the pseudo-take in/out counter style they use, similar to how the chicken burger operates. The food was just okay. While they do serve fresh fish & fries, which tasted perfectly fine, but everything is battered and tastes the same. My guess is that it’s all done in the same deep fryer so the tastes blend together. The clams were more batter then fish, my stomach couldn’t be convinced to eat that much grease, so I didn’t finish them. There’s nothing wrong with the food, but it’s nothing better than I’ve had at any other place. It is nicer décor than most fish places however, which was nice. I found it to be a bit on the pricier side for the portions you’re given. Our bill for 4 adults was around $ 68, which, in my opinion, is pricey for what is essentially«fast food.» I’d rather have more fish filling my plate than deep fried french fries, but that’s just me. We were also with another couple, one of which who was Acadian, and on vacation, and he decided to get the scallops. For the price, he expected larger scallops, not the smaller ones. The dish would have been better with 3 – 4 large scallops rather than a bunch of tiny ones. We were actually still hungry when we left and made snacks at home. All in all, it was an okay place to eat at, with quick service, but I won’t be in a rush to return anytime soon, even though it’s close by.

I guess I could say that if you live in the area and want some fish and chips, at least you don’t have to drive into town for it. But you might want to. The fish itself is very good. As good as you’ll get anywhere. The batter is thick and heavy so therefore greasy. The chips are frozen — inexcusable for a F&C place. I’ll make the trip to The Battered Fish in Sackville.

I must admit that I was surprised when I walked into AFC for the first time this weekend. From the exterior, I envisioned a restaurant with booths, servers, etc rather than what felt like a takeout with tables. But the food was very good, service fairly quick, and the place was clean. I would recommend it to seafood lovers.

Have been looking forward to dining here. The exterior is very inviting, the inside décor is okay as well. The staff were friendly enough. However, I was surprised to find out it is takeout & not table service. Was disappointed to have food served in a cardboard box with plastic utensils. The food, although tasty, was quite greasy leaving me feel unwell. I thought the menu was over priced in comparison to other similar restaurants. Upon leaving the restaurant our jackets smelled of grease for hours. Had I known this was just another fastfood joint, for about $ 10.00 less we could have had fish & chips at The Chicken Burger in Bedford. Hella’s in Lower Sackville has excellent fish & chips. This is an old-style family diner, but the food is very good & offers table service. We would have paid less here & had a better meal served on glass plates and proper cutlery. Acadian Fish & Chips, you may stay in business for your 1st. season, but for long term success you should probably reconsider your preparation, prices and table service. Good Luck.

I eat here regularly and I always get the clams and chips and sometimes the footlong hot dog. I am so happy with the food when I come and the gravy is one in a million. Sit in or take out always a great place to bring the family. The burgers take a couple minutes to make but worth every bite. Fish and chips is delightful! Always clean and courteous and friendly staff.

After months and months of waiting for this little joint to open, my family and I finally decided to give it a try. The place is usually very busy, so we didn’t really know when the best time for us to go was. One night, when we couldn’t think of anything to eat, we decided to finally give it a try, whether is was busy or slow. The staff was extremely friendly! Based on this alone, I would come back! When one of my family members ordered a 3 Piece, they added some more fries. The good thing was that we were going to split it into a 1 and a 2 piece, so my mother was happy to have her own fries with the 1 piece. They were very generous with what they gave us! They gave lots of tartar sauce and coleslaw, which is nice! One this I thought was key is the fact that my fries weren’t wet from the greasy of the fish. There are countless times my fries have been full of greasy. I didn’t feel like I was clogging and artery, and I was going to suffer a heart attack after the first bite. Overall, this place is great for when I want fish and chip right away, or don’t want to drive to my favourite restaurant to get some. I will definitely be back very soon!

I was very impressed with the food quality at this establishment. The haddock in the fish & chips was very fresh. The haddock tips were also great. My brother had the burger and it was fresh burger not frozen patties. I really think the owner is trying hard to make a name in this crowded food genre. One negative for some is that the fries are not of the fresh-cut variety. I prefer the frozen type anyway. Recommended

Excellent. We all had the fish and chips, which had a nice crispy batter covering moist and flaky fish. Fries were thick and well cooked. I would prefer if there were salt and pepper shakers on the table, rather than having to open the cutlery/napkin package, which otherwise would have been unopened, as there was a napkin dispenser on the table. Bottles if ketchup would also be nice. We did appreciate the bottles of both malt and white vinegar. Also, it was very clean and the staff very friendly.

I have been driving past this place daily! So ever since they put the sign out front, while building, I have been super excited for it to actually open. Now it has opened it’s delightful doors, and has been packed ever since. So my wife and I took my parents in anyway. If the quaint sitting area doesn’t appeal to you the aroma sure will! It smells like the best fish and chips ever! It’s damn close, after ordering 3 — 2 piece fish and chips, and an order of clams and chips we settled in to enjoy. Enjoy we did! The fish is lightly battered, huge, and mouth watering awesomeness! The chips are exactly what one would expect at a fish and chips place, crispy on the outside and deliciously potatoey on the inside. The clams and chips were also fantastic(according to my wife) and come piled high atop a bed of those same delicious Chips. Fountain pop, or bottled pop/water are the choices with fountain pop being offered with free refills. And at $ 60 for the four of us, i was extremely happy! The rest of the menu looks awesome, from lobster rolls, to hamburgers, and even pizza! Talking to the owner/chef, we come to find that the lobster rolls and chowder are made fresh when you order, from the live lobster tank, so it will take a little longer. They use fresh daily seafood, caught in the Grand banks, and you can tell with the smell, and taste of everything. You want seafood? Try this place You want some of the best fish and chips? Try this place You won’t be disappointed, trust me!
