Hamilton Locks

Locksmiths seem to have a bad rep on Unilocal.Lots of fake reviews. Well, this 6 year elite Unilocal user is not a fake account.
Short story, Saturday night of the Labour Day weekend our front door handle broke. We couldn’t get in. This delighted no one but the cloud of mosquitoes descending on us as it dawned on us no amount of key turning, key/​handle jiggling, door pulling/​pushing, or my experience as a 5^th level thief in D&D would get us past the door. We’d have to call a locksmith.
A fast google for a locksmith near us turned up Hamilton Lock & Glass. The guy said he’d be there in about 30 minutes, we should just head to a Tim Hortons and get out of the mosquito cloud, and he’d call us again when he was five minutes out. He actually managed to text us with updates a couple times. 15 minutes away. 10 minutes away. Oh, and his first question was «were any kids locked in or out of the house?» I thought that a good sign.
George turned up. He was this friendly mid 20s guy who was clearly in love with his job as a locksmith and possibly aware 90% of locksmiths are going to be retiring in 10 years and he will literally be the only locksmith still working in town. George went through a series of best case to worst case diagnostics, finally decided he had to drill out the door handle, offered to sweep up the metal shavings, gave us advice on what to replace the door handle with, who had the best guarantees, and «it’s easy to put on a new handle but just review a few youtube videos».
We loved this guy. With GST it came to about $ 130. When you work in it was night, emergency service, and the guy spent more than an hour between travel, work, and travel back to his shop, it was an entirely reasonable fee.
Anyway, ask for George by name.
Oh, and don’t let the Hamilton name fool you. They started in Hamilton but moved to Burlington. «It was too expensive to rename the company Burlington Lock & Glass. But the bulk of our jobs are in Hamilton. We do get a lot of business from McMaster students.»
One can only hope there’s an A&E reality TV show about locksmiths and they sign on George.
