Just wanted to start by saying that the downstairs SB location at the Halifax Airport has always given good service! Sadly, standards have fallen, staff is slack and at times abrupt and seem to be more interested in each other’s personal lives than their customers. For regular customers, apparently you now have to buy something to get a glass of water. Not a patron anymore and quite a few colleagues are in the same boat. It’s too bad as we all enjoyed our cup of java/tea immensely but now bring our own as prices and the loyalty program have changed for the worse unfortunately. Not impressed at all!

My first time here at this location. Like I had mentioned in my «tip» I’d been to the Starbucks past baggage check but not this one. It’s right next to arrivals so if your early to pick someone up you can grab a drink and a bite to eat. The barista at cash was pleasant! They were not allowed to accept my Starbucks partner card but that’s okay they still accept Starbucks cards!

Just to clarify, I’m reviewing the Starbucks that is before one goes through security. I have gotten coffee there many times, and have never had a problem. The lines generally aren’t overly long since I think most people wait to get their coffee till they’re through security because of the liquids ban. I was also glad that they take my Starbucks gift card which is not a physical card, but a QR code on the Starbucks app on my mobile device. For whatever reason, I have not had much luck paying with it at other Starbucks locations in Halifax. The staff are always super friendly and perky. They definitely like to socialize with each other behind the counter quite a bit, and on occasion I’ve heard a little too much information about their personal lives while they work. No biggie though, I suppose with that location having long stretches with no customers, because of the nature of the airport schedule, the employees there probably often have nothing to do but become fast friends.

I love Starbucks. I know. I can’t help it but I do. So, after dropping a friend off at the airport and saying our goodbyes not knowing when we would next see each other(sad face) I decided to grab a beverage on my way out. You know, a little warm comfort in a cup. The young girl that took my order was nice enough, though a bit preoccupied with two boys that were just occupying space near the counter. I’m not even sure the guy that made my drink knew I was even there. He didn’t say hello, didn’t acknowledge my existence in any way. He too was preoccupied with the other two who seemed to just be hanging around, more interested in discussing Xbox and PS3. He eventually plunked my drink down and went back to chatting with his friends. Now, what I ordered was a simple Earl Grey Latte. This thing was terrible. It tasted like dirty sock water(if I were to guess what dirty sock water actually tasted like). Of course by the time I realized this I was already driving away from the airport. It didn’t make sense to go back to have them fix it. The service was lacking and my beverage was awful. I hope this is not the norm for this location. If it is, I won’t go back.

I have visited both Starbucks at the YHZ airport so I will kind of review both. It is my last chance to get a Starbucks before I hit the West Coast of NL so I just need it!!! They have pretty much the same offering as other SB stores in the city. Prices are slightly higher though which isn’t entirely surprising considering it is the airport. Staff are friendly and my drink turns out ok. I tried to reload my SB card while there and could not. You can use it, but because of the type of store, you cannot reload it?

Okay now. This is about to get confusing since there are now two Starbucks locations at the Stanfield International Airport. The photo I added was actually of the new one located right by the arrivals section, making it easy to java up while you wait for an arrival or airport pick-up! There *is* another up past security in the departure section which Angela is totally right on. The new set-up is nothing special for Starbucks but completely welcome as a new addition. Having to make due with Tim Horton’s when your newly arrived guests walk out with lattés was just cruel. Given that they are newer, some of the staff haven’t quite hit their stride yet. One actually asked me if I wanted a medium or large the other day and I swear the other employee working gasped. Hilarious!

A great last minute grab before you grab your flight. However they are not a corporate run location therefore they don’t get everything most of the local Starbucks have(foodwise) though they do have the fresh market the rest are lacking. The only downfalls to this location is that only people grabbing a flight can get their starbucks fix as it is located with the gates past security. The service is great, but not as high end as the corporate run locations. A must stop for any traveling Starbucks fan.
