While I have an appreciation of all comic book stores have to offer my interests are limited exclusively to magic the gathering(magic cards). I have never played in an event at this store, but I’ve heard it has a tendency to get crowded and thus sweaty(in the non-winter months). My story comes in when some friends and I swung by on our way to play to hope to grab some cards to use that day(instead of ordering from an online vendor as we usually do). There were three of us and the two people working were rude and almost like caricatures of what pop culture would lead you to believe comic book store employees would be like. They were condescending and acted suspicious of us handling the cards. I should note a know a lot about magic cards and so I feel obliged to mention that you should definitely do some research before heading in to buy cards since many were drastically overpriced(and some notably underpriced) so if you go in there with a good knowledge of prices you a. won’t get ripped off and b. could save some money.

This is where I get my magic cards. Still trying to learn how to play. But I like this store non the less. It has a bunch of games. For people to buy and figurines. Amongst other things for the geek at heart.

I found myself in Quantum Frontier while searching for some Captain America paraphernalia for a gift package. This is a small, well-organized, not-overwhelming comic store that incidentally was playing some good music while I was there. :-) Staff are friendly and helpful, prices seem to be reasonable(I’m not an expert on figurine prices, but they appeared reasonable to me), good selection of comics, games, toys, dolls etc. Plus convenient hours. Overall a pretty nice place. While it can take some time to find nearby parking, it’s close enough to Hydrostone to be walkable from there … or you can just park illegally in the Lion’s Head lot next door, but you didn’t hear that from me.(Shhhhh.)

Before I even start this, I should point out that I’m more nerd-adjacent than a full-on card-carrying member of the geek squad. I say this not to boost myself up, but rather to point out that I’m not the expert on comic book shops despite a deep and long-running appreciation for it all. Quantum Frontier is small but mighty! Its standalone shop on Robie Street is a single floor of geeky goodness. It’s not one of those overwhelming, packed-to-the-brim situations. Instead, each shelf pays its proper respects to superhero-fied Mr. Potato Heads, frightening figurines of characters I’ve never seen before, incredible addicting board games, and of course the entire wall of beautiful comics. For everything that I don’t know about the hundreds of worlds represented in Quantum’s wares, the staff know far more than you can ever consume in just one visit. Ask them and be amazed. No question is too n00b, no request is too far fetched. I’ve also never heard them say a ‘no — we don’t have that,’ without being followed by a ‘but lemme take your name and we’ll see if we can bring it in.‘ Upstairs — the games attic — is often used for tournaments and seminars from the Hal-Con folk too so there’s plenty of opportunity for surprises when you walk through those doors. *There is private parking but I can’t for the life of me figure out how to get in it. I always just end up in the Lion’s Head.
