One thing I love about working in downtown Halifax is the selection of places to grab quick lunch. And Indochine is great for that! Service here is great, food is served quickly, and as a vegetarian there’s plenty options to choose from! Plus, cilantro is winning. The baan mi are always great. The noodle bowls are usually decent but often the noodles aren’t fully drained and sog the cardboard bowls. The phở is honestly one of the lousiest you’ll find in the city. It’s good(ish) but if that’s what you’re going for, pick somewhere else. Pricing is decent but you might be paying a teensy bit extra for thr luxury of fresh food(caveat, I surmise the phở is exempt from the term«fresh»)

This place is the one to go for Vietnamese cuisine. Vegan options plenty, and food is very delicious. I always have the bahn Mi and phở and it is awesome. Well balanced, no excessive use of oil, and multigrain options provide for a healthy meal too. I like it.

Well, prices are reasonable, service is friendly and efficient, and their food is flavourful. That said, I’ve tried a couple different banh mi and while they are tasty, the bread gets soaked through with the mayo too quickly. It makes for quite a messy sandwich to try to eat at your desk. Also, they consistently put the warm meat on only one side of the bread, and the cold veggies on the other. Every bite is different, and not in a good way. This sounds picky, but it really brings down the enjoyment factor. If I could get the sandwich ingredients in a bowl without the bread, I’d probably give this place four stars.

Not authentic banh mi or phở at all. The banh mi bread is thin like dollar bread from Walmart and the phở is kept preheated in a pot like it’s from a high school cafeteria.

The bread for Banh Mi is what makes the sandwich. Not really authentic. Lacking flavour and disappointing.

I have been to the other location and really enjoy their Buddha bowl but wanted to try something new this time. We asked what was vegan, although not knowledgeable right off, they found a list and were very helpful. Turns out quite a bit can be made vegan, we opted for the veggie ball bahn mi to go. The veggie balls themselves are very delicious but neither hubby and I really enjoyed the pickled veggies on it and since the mayo they use is not vegan, we had no sauce so it was rather bland. I wouldn’t choose that again but nice to know it’s so vegan-friendly in there and the prices aren’t too bad.

Cant say anything good about it really, had two tacos. The tortilla tasted stale, tiny, if it wasn’t for the sauce it would have no flavor. No please, no thank you, even after I tipped, typical hipster service. Keep on walking, if your looking to have something healthy and fresh eat a carrot.

I will likely give this place one more try but their Phở Thai was absolutely terrible; bland, a bit on the cold side, chewy undercooked noodles. Kinda blah, but cheap so I will go back and try a sandwich sometime for lunch.

Went here today and i’m definitely going back. It is SO healthy. I loved eating here. I had there tacos and their buddha bowl and it was fresh, light and yet filling. The food was to my taste and very well made. Customer Service was brilliant and the rates are brilliant too. I’m going to throw this place into a regular eat, i loved it, and i recommend it to anyone interested in trying out some delicious, healthy, well made food! Halifax needs more places like this!

I haven’t stopped thinking about the bbq chicken taco/steak taco I tried for the first time last week. The lady who served me(maybe the owner) was helpful and honest. The price is great. Look forward to trying more on the menu and would recommend trying if you’re in the mood for Korean.

While all the other sandwich shops around town are probably blasting their sandwiches with excessive amount of mayo and sauce, this place is doing it right. Delicious, affordable, and fast. Trust me, I’ve eaten my way through many places, many of them outside of North America, and I can assure you — Halifax is lucky to have a place like this. Having been to this place literally dozens of times, the reasonably sized menu has kept me satisfied over the years. I’ve ordered the Bahm Mi’s — beef, chicken, pork, and shrimp. I’ve ordered the Korean tacos — ginger pork, beef, chicken, fish. I’ve ordered the phở, the bubble tea, curry, and its Spring Roll Salad. I’ve taken my friends here; I’ve taken my mom here; I’ve taken my girlfriend here. You get the point. I don’t know what it is about this place — whether it is the delightful smell of freshly baked breads or its spices — its food is always delicious. Flavorful and spicy — it offers a great taste of Southeast Asian flavors while having it balanced with the Western palate. The pickled daikon, for instance, coupled with the mayo in the Bahm Mi’s is a great example of this. If the place is looking for any improvements, I would say go lighter on the mayo in the Bahm Mi’s. It is relatively balanced in comparison to most other sandwich shops I’ve been to, but that’s partly due to the pickled daikon working its job. I’d look out for that in some of the other reviews. Also, is it just me, or does your taco… leak? I’ve eaten it many times so I’ve mastered the craft of eating it, but for most other people, opening both end of the taco wrapper can lead to some unfortunate spilling… Tho overall, I could care less about those little details, as long as I am satisfied with my food =)

Stopped by here after the Christmas tree lighting over the weekend. Figured it would be packed, but it wasn’t that busy. Either way, ordered the lemon grass banh mi sandwich and it was pretty good. French bread was fresh and soft on the inside, the chicken was flavoured just right and the pickled onions/carrots were the icing on the cake. I have a certain friend who used to eat here more than he ate at home — you know who you are! And they have Propeller root beer! That’s always a plus!

I’ll be honest… It’s not my favorite spot for a sandwich. For me. There’s to much cilantro. I believe that it just overpowers the other flavors I think are in the sandwich. The pickled dikon and carrots are a little weird and soggy. The meat and bread however are a total different story. The baguettes are fresh and the meat is full of moisture and extremely pleasing to the taste buds. The parking is tough especially for the person on the go.

This review is going to be short and sweet. If you really want to know how good this place, you need only look at the line up out the door. Atmosphere — this is primarily a take out kind of place — a few tables around but I wouldn’t consider it the kind of place to really catch up over a leisurely lunch. The success of the place means that there are probably always going to be a lot of the lunch time crowd standing around waiting to pick up their sandwiches. There is no patio, nor are there any picnic tables to eat outside. I was feeling like more filling less bread — the Bahn Mi sandwiches are served on some pretty thick and crusty rolls. I went with the fusion tacos — the spicy chicken and the bulogi beef. The description: Korean Tacos — Served in a warm flour tortilla topped with Asian coleslaw, pickled daikon, cucumber, bean sprouts, citrus mayo & sriracha. The flavour was other-worldly. KaPoW — extra deliciousness. I could probably have just eaten one. But why eat just one when you get two for $ 7.45. A bargain for the buck. Service was as short and sweet as this review. Despite the line up we had our food fairly quickly. Don’t go to this place if you have an addictive personality. I’m warning you.(Plus I don’t want that lunch line to get any longer)
