I wanted to like it, I really did. I thought maybe I got unlucky with the burnt coffee, but after trying a sip of my sister’s latte I just had to give up. Its a cute spot, and well put together with friendly staff, and I can see myself trying again in the future because of how well-received it is in the coffee scene, but so far my experience was just«ok»

This is my FAV coffee place!!! The Chai Latte in this location is THE best one I’ve ever had. The Brownie w/Peanut Butter, sooo goood!!! Very knowledgable staff and friendly service. If I have to nitpick, the location is a bit cramped. Other that that, two thumbs up!!!

Cool small indie coffee shop. For those who are Java officinados these are our temples of worship. Some people enjoy Tim Hortons(warm brown river water as I see it) or Starbucks(palatable but expensive sweet dressed up coffee drinks). I’d much prefer supporting a small business than the Tim Hortons Oakville corporation or Seattle based multinational conglomerate. I was brought here by a relative as he knew that they had the aeropress coffee devices for sale. So for $ 36 I bought one. Plus $ 7 for 300 filters. So far I love this device. It does a better job than a French press. They also had the Chemex(Boston based) coffee drip bottles. From their menu what I appreciated greatly was that they had the coffee listed from strongest to weakest. As I just had a Vietnamese coffee at a restaurant I didn’t need a double Java hit in a 30 min period so I’ll have to come here again!

I love Transcend coffee, and this is a convenient location for those of us that live on the Southside. I truly love the coffee here, and it’s definitely worthy of the 4 stars. I’m not sure the staff here are though. I like upbeat greetings, and friendly staff when I get my coffee, but this place doesn’t seem to offer that. They aren’t mean or cold, they just aren’t that extra bit of friendly I want with my coffee. But definitely go for the coffee anyway, and the tasty treats. Best banana bread EVER!

Compared to the options on every other street corner, this place takes the… coffee? It’s pretty great, though, seriously. Give it a try if you’re into quality coffee. Tim Horton’s addicts steer clear, it’s not something you’ll like. Mmmm.

Perfect enough that I never have to add anything not even sugar… Very smooth & creamy coffee. Yum!

transcend coffee does not have a sugar-free option for your latte, and you will come to terms with it. the baristas might talk to you, but maybe not. they might talk to each other. maybe they will make drinks in order, but it is not up to you. your drink with madagascar vanilla bean paste tastes fine. you walk outside of transcend coffee and look westwards towards plumes of smoke rising from nearby factories. it is better, you decide, to watch the smoke mingle with the clouds from the second floor back inside. you exhale, and your latte seems to do the same.

Great spot to sit and enjoy a unique drink! Different from your Starbucks and Tim Hortons of the world.

The OG Transcend in Edmonton. Come all for an carefully made cup of coffee from sustainable green buying, expertly roasted and meticulously brewing. I am by no means a coffee nerd, but thru seasoning and practice, I now know what a great cup of coffee tastes like.

Wonderful coffee and a great vibe with the staff and patrons. The main floor is a bit cramped as I think the tables are a bit too large, but it is a great place to meet and there is more seating upstairs. I appreciate the fact that everyone who works there understands the importance of coffee and how it is made as well they understand the differences between the ones they serve.

Transcend is the best coffee in Edmonton. The coffee bar itself is kind of crammed with too much seating that is always full. They have seating upstairs, but no music up there so it lacks the same atmosphere. Go there if you love great coffee, but get it to go.

Come here once a week as a treat. Staff are super friendly. Usually pick up a small mocha. The mochas are delicious, smooth and always the right temperature. Not very big inside. There are maybe 5 or 6 tables, so likely you are getting your fix to go. Great quality coffee to enjoy or pick up beans to go.

I can appreciate what Transcend is doing for coffee here in Edmonton, and have definitely had a good cup of Transcend coffee. I really, really want to love and support them in their mission to bring great coffee to this place. But they need to do something about quality control and consistency. I like the 62 ave location best — the baristas are quite knowledgable and friendly. However, I have had some less than great experiences at Jasper. I once had a cup of single origin which was a watery mess, as though they used only half the grounds they should have in the Clover. Also, once while in line I overheard an employee giving completely wrong information about espresso and blends versus single origin to the customer in front of me. Higher prices for great coffee are totally justified in my mind — but not when quality varies this much.

Great coffee in an industrial part of town. The espresso I had was on par with the Elysian Room in Vancouver. Yummy lentil-veggie soup and delicious carrot cake. This location is not as fancy as the university one, but is still cool and funky in a warehouse kind of way. Only 4 or 5 tables downstairs; go upstairs for bigger tables on which to scatter your stuff. Free wifi as befits a coffee joint worthy of your time! Check it out.

I should mention that I’m not much of a coffee expert or snob. I enjoy a cup of Tim Horton’s every once in a while(and tastes like sugar water compared to this) and consider Starbucks to be a treat. I enjoy drinking coffee at places like Transcend mostly because the friendly baristas care enough to make designs in my lattes with steamed milk. And I do notice a considerably richer coffee flavour. But one thing that’s cool about this Transcend in particular is its selection of baked treats inspired by baked treats commonly found in Rainforest areas in Brazil — presumably one of the places where they source their beans. I enjoyed both my Banana Cake and my Guava Cheese pastry puffs. I recommend them if you need a little snack with your coffee. The décor itself feels a little sterile and industrial to me, but no more so than a Second Cup or a Starbucks. I also have never been upstairs at this location

Transcend staff are friendly and helpful. Their coffee, espresso, and tea taste great. None of the baked goods have truly appealed to me, but I’ve tried a few of their house-made soups, and enjoyed. It’s a nice atmosphere for a visit with a friend(LOVE the big sunny SE corner of the shop), or to bring a book or your laptop. There are enough power outlets, but the free internet has a time limit of an hour, which is annoying. I understand that it’s to encourage turnover when the place is busy, but you still get cut off even if there’s no one waiting for a seat. At the Unilocal elite event at the Jasper location, I had a lot of fun and enjoyed the tastings and coffee info — did you know coffee beans are refined cherry pits? Kahlua cappuccino = win.

Finally made it down to the original location. The location seems a little strange and out of the way, but I can tell it probably gets a lot of traffic. The server was friendly, and the coffee was still delicious. I don’t think it’s possible to have a bad drink here. The flat white is still my favourite. But I ventured out and had a delicious iced coffee instead. No cream or sugar required, the coffee is that tasty. Downside — no wifi here, at least none that I could get. Also they’re closed on weekends. Really this place should be open all the time. You never know, it could by 3am and you start craving good coffee. And Tim Horton’s just doesn’t make the cut any more.

I’m a huge Transcend fan and can hence become a bit of a coffee snob. I“ll be the first to say that. There’s good reason, though, to be avidly seeking a great cup of coffee, be it a perfect crèma to a slightly acidic and flavorful espresso, the absolute correct amount of frothing of milk for a flat white, the accurately timed tea infusion for a cup of tea or a flavorful cup of french press coffee made out of unique beans that belong to a small plantation tucked away in the foothills of the Andes(okay, now I’m hamming big time, I should become an Academy Awards speech writer). Well, leave all the coffee snob details alone, but making a perfectly brewed cup of french press is certainly an art. And I love these plunger coffees that are(for some reason) only available at this southside Transcend branch. The french pressed coffee is served in a double walled Bodum® glass(see through), so that one can excite their imagination by adding milk and see that pure white liquid infuse, through complex, beautiful and unique patterns, into the depths of this dark decoction. This coffee branch is certainly a cool place to visit, albeit(not surprisingly) in the middle of nowhere, on 99th street. They have a large room that can be seen through glass windows where coffee experts are roasting beans through fancy big machines. If they were wearing lab coats, you could as well imagine being at Nasa’s research lab. But yes, if you’re someone in pursuit of the freshest roast of coffee — and yes, that matters — then you could certainly come here to pick up beans that tend to have been roasted, on average, 2 –3 days back. The only drawback I have about this location is that it’s too small! I understand that they’re primarily a roaster, at this location, but they’ve got maybe 3 – 4 small tables.
