I have been coming here for years, great concept, food is always good, service is always good as well, meal comes with a starter soup, pick the hot and sour, way better then the wonton, and I would go with the coconut rice with your meal, tastier. Kind of wish instead of the set price you could just buy your bowl size, the bowls have been getting noticeable smaller and there are less options for veggies as well. Love the guess the weight game, both myself and my boyfriend have had free meals this way :) a little tip is to put your sauce in the bowl first, much easier then trying to pour it on after, enjoy being creative :)

I remember craving the Mongolie Grill on a daily basis a few years ago. Hadn’t been in about 6 – 7 months and I realized why very soon. To the meal in a moment but first why the hell does an «Asian» restaurant not offer Asian beer? Tsing Tao, Tiger, nada. They have(in a head scratcher) moved to fixed pricing instead of the weight based system that previously existed. So the waitress gives me a shot glass to fill up with food for 17 bucks. I would gladly pay 27 for a bigger bowl that I could fit everything into. So I get this dry ass plate with no color because I couldn’t fit enough veggies into the bowl to feel not ripped off. I have dined at this place for years probably 50 times and with what it has broken down to I will never go back. This is a very sad sad regression of a dining experience from one of downtowns former cool spots for a meal Andy

I’d LOVE to give this place a better review as I do enjoy the experience and have gone here many many times. But I have to give it a lower score because of the changing system. The bowls used to be weighed for price, which meant the customer dictated how much or little they ended up paying. Then they changed it to a set price with smaller bowls. Which made sense for a sent rate but I always spend 40 – 50 bucks on the previous bowls because all the ingredients I love to use. Plus, lunch the next day was brilliant. Sill, I was able to make the small bowl go the distance so all was well. The last time I went here though, they had downgraded the size of the bowl again. I don’t mind paying for what I buy, but I hate this new system with its ever shrinking bowls. Hence why it gets three stars instead of the five I would have given it before.

Went for a date here; it’s a great place for that sort of thing because the neat«fill your bowl» sorta system they have. It makes you interact with who you’re with, and we even got a chance to guess the weight of our bowl for a chance at getting the meal free. Needless to say I guess about 400g heavier than what mine actually was. Lol. But it was still fun. The food was good. But I have one big tip for people: Get a lot of sauce! Don’t be cheap with your sauce or your food will be dry.

I was really disappointed with this branch. I always pretty much get the similar ingredients back in Red Deer and was always satisfied with how they cook it, but this time it felt like it was over cooked and just wasn’t appetizing at all… I told my friend about it and I was with him, and I just felt embarrassed as it was his first time. I don’t think he’ll be going back and neither will I.

Food was good, but service was slow. They were also out of many of their menu items. We had to make three tries at the beer, two at the wine, and they were also out of the dessert we wanted. To me that’s poor management. Don’t like the new one rate for the bowls, either instead of weighing. We’re not big eaters so we end up over paying for the meal. Probably won’t go back.

I keep buying Groupons for the mongolie grill, but I honestly don’t think it’s a good deal or that great of a place to eat. I do like that I can pick what I like an load my bowl with broccoli, but I always leave feeling ripped off. If you can get there before their happy hour is over(5 pm, I think) you can get an awesome deal on tasty green onion cakes and small beers, but this is the extent of stretching your dollar.

Well not impressed… same concept as mongolian bbq south of border… u pic ur own ingrediants and they stir fry for you… the ingrediants were not fresh… especially beef… the soup was so so… and the service was nothing special… i guess i cannot comment on the taste of food… it was ordinary… but i picked the ingrediants… so i guess i am a bad chef… anyway not going there again… dull experience…

I didn’t eat here. In fact, I only spent a total of 4 minutes inside this restaurant. When we sat down, the hostess placed two menus in front of us at the table, and one of them was absolutely filthy with smeared food. She didn’t notice. The waiter who came by two minutes later didn’t notice. Here’s my logic: If the staff at The Mongolie Grill care so little that they don’t even notice an obviously dirty menu, I don’t want to eat there.

I don’t like the change in rice. I like how they used to bring it to your table, not underneath your food. Always great food and service although!!!

My friend had a groupon and invited me to come here for lunch. We made a reservation for 11:45 and I was surprised how busy it was for lunch. We went up with our empty bowls to create our meal. The vegetables had a good variety including mushrooms, zucchini, broccoli, bean sprouts, green peppers, snow peas, and kale(it had been years since I last went but don’t remember kale). Most of the vegetables were cut in large pieces, about double the size I would cut if I were making stir fry so I didn’t need to get too much. Also happy to see tofu too! In the meat and seafood section, they had a marinated beef and chicken thighs. I added salmon, chicken, and beef to my bowl. Next came the sauces and I put 2 big scoops of teriyaki sauce on top of my food. We were asked if we wanted white or brown rice, or chow mein. I picked white rice and we went back to our table to find our soup waiting for us. I choose the wonton and my friend had the hot and sour. Mine had 2 wonton and I only ate them without drinking the soup. My friend liked her soup and said it had a little bit of kick to it. It seems no matter how much sauce you put in your bowl is all gets sizzled away. We asked the server for sauce and she said that we could pick from any of the sauces they offer and we got soy. We added it to plates to give it some more taste otherwise it would be bland. I regretted getting the marinated beef as mixed with my teriyaki sauce, it tasted a little sour. The rest of the food was alright. The tofu and salmon were my favourite. We got fortune cookies with our bill. After the $ 30 groupon, we had to pay $ 8 which is decent price. Without the groupon, my $ 17.60 meal wouldn’t have been worth it. Probably not a good place for those with food allergies as the cooking utensils are used to cook other meals and they offer shellfish and peanuts in the selection.

I tried it. And it’s not my cup of tea. I ordered potstickers that were very oily. Wanton soup. Was surprised when it’s only wanton wraps, usually the wanton soups I tried there’s meat inside

Always love coming here. Love picking my own ingredients and watching them cook it. The staff is friendly and helpful. The restaurant is clean and the staff is willing to bend over backwards if you have a food allergy. I stuff myself silly every time I come here and will sit in the restaurant long after my food has been boxed enjoying the atmosphere. It does get pricey if your not careful but still a place to try at least once. The only reason I don’t give this place five stars is because of their stove thing. I feel it doesn’t get cleaned as often as it should when you bite into a slightly spicy stir fry and you didn’t put anything spicy in your bowl.

Would you like to buy supper and your lunch for the next day at the same time? Then you’re in the right place. The Mongolie Grill is an interesting restaurant that allows individuals to choose their own ingredients for a stir fry buffet style. After you have chosen your ingredients, you are then charged based on the weight of your bowl. The cooks there will then prepare your food for you. Overall it’s decent food but it ends up being quite pricey for what you get. I would definitely recommend saving half of it for lunch the next day or maybe splitting one if they would let you because it ends up being huge portions. Service was great without any issues. It’s kind of a novelty restaurant that you pay to experience.

To be one hundred percent fair, Mongolie Grill isn’t a bad restaurant. The Tuesday $ 21 food bowl is a good value, and they let you take what ever you have left over home(mmmnnn lunch and dinner tomorrow) And the concept is interesting, pick your own food bowl. The only thing is, that at the end of the day, the food always comes out bland and dull. I don’t know if it’s because they throw all the ingredients on the grill for the same amount of time, or because of the style of cooking, but I always have to add extra sauce after. And it’s all very uniform tasting. I’d like to give it 2.5 stars but that’s not possible on Unilocal I’ll give it 3 stars for service, and 2 stars for food So my middling muddling review is 2 stars only because the value on 6 out of 7 days isn’t there. Sorry Mongolie Grill. Pros: Tuesday’s $ 21 food bowl is the best time to go Never a line up Great Staff Cons: Bland food Expensive if you are not going Tuesday

We came all the way from San Jose, California for this place! Just kidding, we happened to walk past it while foraging for food after arriving in Edmonton for our honeymoon(we followed the San Jose Sharks to Canada for their games in Alberta) We were sat right away at the bar and the bartender went over how the restaurant worked, where to enter the line, etc They had a nice variety of veggies and meats to choose from. This was the first mongolian BBQ place where they had meats already marinating in sauces, as well as the plain meats to choose from. This was also the first mongolian BBQ I’ve been to that offered more than one type of noodle to put into your dish(Soba style egg noodle, chow mein or vermicelli rice noodles). They also had a wide varity of yummy sauces to put onto your dishes. You take the dish to the grill and they take your seat down. They also include soup before your meal and rice on the plate included with the price of your meal which was nice. They had a few different types of soup and rice to choose from. The staff had great service and we were lucky to meet one of the owners! He convinced us to try the amazing Chocolate cake which came from a local bakery(Dauphine Bakery I think). My husband and I do not generally like cake but it was perfect — not too rich or too thick. Next time we are in the Edmonton area, we are coming back! Thanks Mongolie Grill for a great first experience!

Just awful, never again. The food is insanely overpriced and of very poor quality. you can be as careful as you want filling up your bowl, if you add sauce youll end up spending waaaay more than you intended. even then, the rice will be dry and unpleasant, and the strifry so dry and shabby youll need to drown it in soy to stomach it. add that to the fact youll probably be charged $ 20+ for the abomination, dining here ends up an exercise in positive thinking. The waitstaff is pretty inattentive, too, seeing as our server had all of 3 tables and we had to flag her down to request drink refills repeatedly. Its an amazing scam for the owners, serve cheap buffet food, pay one dude to fry it, and charge tonnes for the experience. You end up leaving embarrassed at having paid $ 20+ pp for something you could have made better at home for $ 3. It seems only a masochist, or someone deadly afraid of their own kitchen, could be a repeat visitor here. You’d be better off going next door to Kyoto for some quality Japanese for the same amount of money or less(i know, quality sushi for the same price as crappy overcooked nothing and a few tablespoons of soup. crazy). Or, if you’re set on this type of meal, hit up Mongolia Express(1035578 Ave NW) — there you literally get to fill your bowl as full as you possibly can(think leaning tower of stirfry) up to 2 lbs, and you pay $ 8 set price. Its a far more casual atmosphere, but much better quality, better value, and you don’t feel like a chump on your way out the door.

Went here on a Saturday for lunch and I was suprised to see that it was pretty decently packed with a few groups. Like really, who goes to Mongolie Grill??? The concept of this place is interesting but the execution of food taste wise is nothing to write home about. I’ve ate her before a few years ago and only came back here again because my mom needed to use a Groupon. Otherwise, I wouldn’t ever eat here by choice. You get to choose a soup with your meal so I had the hot & sour soup(meh — pretty unmemorable, not much heat to it) and my mom had the curry lentil. As you get to choose what you want, I tried to make mine healthy so had lots of fish, seafood and vegetables along with brown rice. Mom had the same. Our bill came to $ 34 before tax. Friggin bowls are expensive as it’s by weight so make sure your don’t go to crazy! One guy in front of us stacked his bowl all to way to a nice $ 30…yeesh, for that price, go to a real restaurant. All in all, pretty tasteless and expensive = don’t go.
