Second Cup Coffee Company

This is my favorite Second Cup location. It is especially welcoming and cosy. The service is always good and I’ve always found a spot that felt private enough for a chat with friends.

Our stopping for coffee and a read of the papers or a book I have along, is a special type of rest time for my husband and I.
One particular day, we stopped at 2^nd Cup on 149^th street & 87^th avenue. We’ve had coffee visits there in the past years but this day was special.
We were not finding a ‘comfy’ spot (soft barrel type chairs) and the owner noticed this. He quietly spoke with one of his regulars and had him move to another table area. He smiled at us and welcomed us to sit.
My impression was this customer had overstayed his welcome and wasn’t buying anymore coffee.
We were not only thankful for the quiet area but very impressed this owner took the initiative to welcome and accomodate new paying customers into his establishment.
The staff continue to be friendly and helpful when we stop and also, the café itself, is always clean. We are especially thankful for an owner to show pride in his «2^nd home».
Coffee may be expensive but I always remember that the payment is also for the ambiance and my use of the ‘spot’ I’m sitting in. Consider it part of the ‘rental’ for the hour and your cup of Java will go down that much smoother!

Second Cup’s Mocha and Hot Chocolate in particular are easily enjoyable. It’s well priced and you get similar quality to that of Starbucks. Don’t get me wrong, I love my Starbucks but Second Cup is a great substitute so far without burning my purse with my addiction to coffee.
It is well located within Meadowlark shopping area and the library is a 5 minutes walk away which is really convenient whenever I need a dose of a wake-​me-​up nudge. Service is pretty fair but could be better.
The seating area is quite spacious and always great if you can actually find a socket to charge your phones/​laptops while zapping away their free wifi and dunk in more coffees in your body.

This is one of my favourite Second Cup locations the service is fast and efficient and I can usually find a seat although it can get busy. They seem to have increased the number of comfortable chairs available which is great as sometimes it’s a little cramp in the booth style with wooden chairs across from it.
Sometimes for a treat, I will get a $ 2 large cookie or they have a good assortment of squares, muffins, and other treats for $ 2 – 3 and often are big enough to share. For drink selection, I usually stick with my tea but they have a range of cold and hot drinks to enjoy in any season.
Good place to bring your laptop if you want to get work done as there’s free wifi. If you don’t want to stop in, there’s the drive through that doesn’t seem too busy.

I’ve only ever used the drive-​thru at this Second Cup but I’ve used it a few times now.
Usually I don’t have a problem. The staff is usually not too cheery but they do their jobs.
I did, however, get the wrong drink once! I didn’t notice it until I had driven away and I was so upset about it. I was so looking forward to this delicious drink and it was the complete opposite of anything I ordered.
Needless to say, I stayed away from this Second after that.
But, they are a good company and a decent location in general. The staff never seem very happy though so that’s concerning.

This Second Cup location is at the southwest edge of the Meadowlark shopping and health centre. As a result, it gets a steady flow of traffic throughout the day, both on foot and at the drive-​through window. The space is very bright and has more of a corporate feel than other Second Cups where I have been. It is a much busier atmosphere, and a lot of younger folks hang out here during the week after school, while older people are there on weekends and also during the day. The staff is always very friendly, and always busy. The quality of the coffee tends to be steady — Second Cup doesn’t have the best coffee in my opinion, but at least it is fresh because of the turnover. There is also always a good selection of muffins and treats no matter what time of day you visit.
