My favorite type of dish– eating in or taking out. Delivery right to the door. Taste never changes Family pack 105 $ and worth it. Moderate amount of meat and chicken– type and description on the website. Comes with saffron rice and grilled tomatoes. Choose yogurt dip and side salad. More than enough to feed group of five. Been here more than once and when family days come around — and don’t feel like cooking — we order and are never disappointed. Meals are made quick and service is great. Friendly owner and family run business. Used to have Whyte Ave location but one located on south side — still worth a visit !

After a crummy experience at New Asian Village across the parking lot, I walked over to Sabzy. I’m always game for anything remotely Mediterranean, and especially when it’s lamb! So I was excited to see Zereshk Polow served with Lamb Shank, which is a rice pilaf type of dish with tangy barberries. It was served with a marinated spring lamb shank, with lots of juice and a big spoon so you can drip it over your rice. For six bucks, you can add a salad alongside, so I got the tabbouleh. And it was SO good. Really flavorful, which is nice to see in Edmonton in what for us is still almost winter. The tomatoes were nice and flavorful. And although I’m an all parsley tabbouleh gal, this had more bulgur– a larger, thicker variety. And it was tasty! I also got a large chai alongside which was great. Service was friendly and efficient, and I was allowed to sit in a booth. Win-win, since I couldn’t at New Asian Village. I’m definitely a fan, and will be back when I happen to be down south!

Sabzy, which means green herbs, is a restaurant that specializes in Persian food. Did you even know there’s places in town to eat Persian? I sure didn’t until I was in the area one day and noticed a bright green sign beckoning you in to enter. Located in a small plaza filled with a variety of ethnic restaurants(Daore, Masala Wok) and bakeries, Sabzy is one of those off the beaten path restaurants that doesn’t get much love or attention. They’ve been open since 2008! Two of my favourite dinner companions, who are always game to try a new restaurant, joined me on a late Thursday evening to try Sabzy out. We arrived at 8:00pm and the place was empty. Only one family of four was there so we pretty much had the restaurant to ourselves. The waiter was friendly and gave us a couple of recommendations after finding out we’ve never been before. The menu is short with a page each for appetizers, kabobs and meat entrees. Prices are definitely on the higher side, especially with the kabobs. They have a deal on Tuesdays where it’s buy 3, get 1 entrée free. I didn’t look at the«fine print» when we went, I thought it was a special on that they had for the month. Bah. Next time. They do also have a lunch special — two kebobs for $ 14.00 is much more reasonable. Not on their menu but you can see it on their Facebook page. — Eggplant spread($ 9.00) — smoked flavoured eggplant mixed with caramelized garlic, onion and fresh tomato served with bread. The spread was tasty and refreshing but I didn’t get much smokiness from the eggplant. Portion size was a bit too small for my liking(for $ 9.00, it’s pricey) but my two friends devoured it. It comes accompanied with slices of pita bread — they should warm these up and slightly toast them. — Signature bandari($ 18.00 single), jojeh and kobeedeh skewers($ 19.00 double skewer) — the signature bandari is apricot marinated boneless chicken thigh mildly seasoned with cayenne pepper, the jojeh classically marinated chicken breast and kobeedeh consists of grilled, seasoned ground beef. The bandari was the best of the three skewers that we ate that night(it’s their signature for a reason) with the apricot marinade shining through. Again, the price point is pretty questionable($ 18.00 for one skewer!?!) but that’s the general consensus/complaint you’ll see if you look up other people’s reviews. — Zereshk polow served with lamb shank($ 24.00) — barberry rice mix served with rosemary and ginger marinated spring lamb shank. As there were three of us, the waiter was accommodating and gave us each a full dish of the barberry rice to go with our skewers and lamb shank. The ginger and rosemary sauce combination was fragrant but the lamb shank, from New Zealand, wasn’t fall of the bone tender. You could break the meat off without using a knife but I just wasn’t blown away. The portion size again is on the small side. — Barberry rice mix($ 8.00) — the barberry, similar to goji berries, gave the rice a nice punch of sweetness to the dish. Bonus how gorgeous it looks! I will have to try adding some fruit the next time I make rice myself. Delicious! — Pistachio cheesecake($ 8.00) — we ended things off by sharing a slice of pistachio cheesecake. They added a raspberry sauce that paired perfectly with the cheesecake. Not overly sweet, it was a great way to end our meal. Overall, Sabzy was worth a try but I don’t have much to compare with. I will have to try the other two Persian restaurant in town(that I know of) to compare: Shiraz Restaurant and Persia Palace Restaurant & Banquet, which is located in the same plaza as Sabzy. I’d check them out on Tuesday for their buy 3, get 1 entrée free deal.

I had a Persian food craving, and this place was exactly what I wanted. I had the lamb kabob, and it was perfectly charred, and juicy. The rice, and the grilled tomato was the perfect compliment. Waiter was the owner, and he was very friendly. Hit the spot, and will be back for my next Persian food craving!

This was a difficult review to write, because I took the family and we disagreed on how to rate this place. It was between 3 or 4 stars. Here’s why. Great service, great salad, great rice, however the kabob was very dry and appeared to have been prepared earlier and just warmed up slightly when ordered. They place too much emphasis on presentation, and not enough on providing freshly prepared/cooked food. We were the only ones in the entire restaurant when we ordered, and another couple came in mid way through. The ingredients were fresh, however the preparation of the food was not. For those prices I expect both. Won’t be returning.

Very bad service! I went in and waited For 20 minutes to be told the kitchen closed. At least have the courtesy to tell a customer that the kitchen is closed rather then have them wait. I would never go back after and would not recommend this Persian restaurant after this experience!

Pricy for the low quality. The better quality of the persian food in Edmonton, but sucks comparing to places in Calgary.

Went tonight for supper to Sabzy Persian Grill for first time, great food– fresh & full of flavor. Friendly, helpful staff. Nice atmosphere, quiet and relaxing. I had the lamb shank– delish dish, cooked in rosemary & ginger broth. My hubby had a chicken thigh kebab, also very good. Definitely plan on visiting again, would absolutely recommend. Check out sweet shop/bakery next door if you can.

We had the daily soup, which was kind of a lentil soup with chicken and cilantro. It was really good! The Chai tea is also really nice with lots of Cinnamon. The appetizer we got was a grilled eggplant dip which I felt could have had a bit more oompf which is what I’ve experienced with other middle eastern cuisines. My boyfriend and I shared the ground beef rolls– I forget the Persian name. It came with a lot of rice and two kabobs and two grilled tomatoes. Apparently, there is a cheaper Persian place called Shiraz. Next door there is also a Persian bakery, if you’re feeling adventurous you should try the chocolate covered ma’mouls which are a kind of date filled cookie.

The smell brought us in! Could smell the delicious spices from across the street… Not expecting much from a kabob place, we entered a beautifully decorated full-service restaurant. Our server was a gentleman and the food service was prompt. The meat was hot with incredible flavor, and the side tabouli salad and rice pilaf were the prefect compliment. Thank you Sabzy for a wonderful lunch!

I love Sabzy. Greatest Persian restaurant in Edmonton, and one of the best Middle Eastern/Mediterranean food ones in general. Their kababs are so fresh and seasoned well. I highly recommend the Bandari kabab if you’re into chicken, or the chenjeh if you’re into beef. I also love their tabouli quiona salad. Sabzy has a good healthy feel to it too, so even though you’re indulging out it’s not going to make you feel heavy after. The rice is fantastic, zereskh polow is amazing. The appetizers are also great, I love the eggplant ones. Perschetta is also a great invention and amazing taste as well. The staff is very friendly and welcoming. Great service. Overall, great place to dine!
