Planet Beach Tanning Salon

Being new to the area, I went in search of a tanning place. Walked in here to find 2 girls chatting at the counter, both behind the counter «working» by the way. They kept me waiting even though there were absolutely no other customers there. When they finally deigned to turn their attention to me I asked them about their packages. I was handed a booklet and they turned back to their conversation. Needless to say I left the booklet on the counter and went to another salon.

Friendly and professional staff, clean beds and great prices make this my Favorite tanning spot!!!

Used to be my favourite tanning location. I had purchased the unlimited contempo spa package which cost $ 69.00 a month if only going to one location. This included unlimited tanning beds of your choice whether it was lay down or stand up, lumieure facials, teeth whitening, massage bed/​chair, hydrosteam beds, and spray tans. Pretty good deal considering a single drop in spray tan costs $ 40. I never used the lumieure facial or tooth whitening but had friends that have tried it and liked it. I was a regular at the massage bed (perfect after 10 hour shifts at work), the hydrobed (hydrates your skin, makes it easier for you to tan, and can burn up to 600 calories in a session, and spray tans (a nice alternative to damaging tanning rays). I personally liked the girls who worked there. Especially Hayley. Everyone I work with who goes there as well agrees. She was well informed and made sure you could get in even without appointments and was very nice. I went in today and there’s a sign on the door which states it’s ‘under new management and renovations soon’. Most of the regular stuff was missing like the teeth whitening chair, massage chair, product display, and the table with towels which were conveniently put into the tanning beds instead. I overheard the hydro machine is broken and the sink in the bathroom was out of order as well. Seems that someone went in as well and roughed it up a bit. The trim around the front desk looks to be pulled off in lots of areas. The usual girls are gone as well, who have now been let go due to the new ownership. The new girl seemed very sweet. I’m interested to see where this location decides to take this store. I found it to be very convenient for location and had a good thing going at least compared to all the other tanning salons I have tried out the past few years including the same location before it was turned into the contempo spa. If you do have a contract there already I would probably check in with the new management, because I am sure the contract would now be made null or need to be resigned.

When I go looking for a little dose of sun therapy, I tend to have low expectations. Honestly, put me in a warm bed and let me sleep for a bit, that’s all I ask. I decided to visit the downtown Planet Beach before going away on a trip to mexico, and after my trip, I definitely didn’t go back.
I went during wintertime and the salon was absolutely filthy — the front area was totally muddy and disgusting — yet they ask you to remove your shoes. And what? Mop the floor with your stocking feet? I found this to be a problem EVERY time I visited — maybe they should invest in a door mat or an employee who can tell mud from linoleum.
The pricing is a little higher than most salons and my biggest issue with them is that they don’t offer minute packages — they offer session packages, or monthly packages — and it’s pretty pricey for someone who isn’t going to be hopping in the UV rays consistently.
For a «chain» salon, the quality of the beds was sub-​par (albiet better than Fabutan) but the cleanliness of the beds and the rooms was questionable. Each time I went in, there was always garbage or leftover lotion packets on the floor. The beds didn’t always seem to be wiped fully (I always gave them a swipe with the provided towel before I dove in).
The employees at this location aren’t very engaging or seemingly knowledgable, and judging from the general cleanliness of the salon itself, not very observant (or else very apathetic). I was never asked if I had lotion or goggles with me (which in my opinion, should be mandatory for each tanner). However, I was always so busy trying to manuever around the mud monsoon in the front room, maybe they were too afraid to ask me. I don’t really blame them.

I went to this place because at the time I was living just down the street. When I first walked in the girls were gossiping and ignoring me. I went up to the desk and asked if they could explain to me the packages and if they had any promos. The one girl just handed me over a book and then said if you’re interested fill out this form.
I should have just left. But since I didn’t have a car and it was in walking distance I decided to stay. I went with the highest package available because of the «perks» (more bulbs in the beds and stand up, never have to wait, and bigger rooms) In total with new lotion is cost me around $ 250. that was for 3 moths unlimited.
When I went back numerous times, and the highest package beds I paid for always had at least 3 bulbs burnt out and when I would come out and tell them they would just look at me and continue talking either on the phone or to each other.
After about my 10^th visit there and still no shade darker, (i think due to old bulbs) I stopped stop going, I had moved and it was a hassle to get down there, and to be treated with bad service and have beds that are old just didn’t ring my bell.
