Parkview Elementary-Junior High School

I attended Parkview from grades one through nine. Needless to say, I have many memories ranging from funny to embarassing, from fond to hurtful. When I graduated from grade nine, over a dozen teachers also left the school at the same time. I used to joke it was because of me, but I was actually a pretty good kid. I was shy and quiet, and unfortunately this made me a target for bullies, which started in elementary school and continued through junior high. But I survived, and the experience made me stronger. I just wish the administration back then was able to take things more seriously rather than blaming my preferences in music and clothing accessories for the attacks. Young children can be very cruel, and the adults in a school — the teachers, aides, secretaries, and principals — have to have the training to deal with these sorts of situations. After I left the place also got a makeover, with lots of renovations. I returned to Parkview early in my University career to get some volunteer experience for my Education degree, and the experience was very positive. It was interesting to experience life on the other side of the staff room door. In particular, one of the oldest, roughest, crustiest teachers was suddenly extremely nice to me. I have friends from way back when whose kids are now in Parkview. I had experiences I loved and hated there, but it will always be a part of me.
