I don’t go here as often as I’d like to, but there’s something about the atmosphere at Martini’s that always seems to be just what I’m looking for. It’s a pretty small place, with a great laid back atmosphere and free popcorn. Close enough to Jasper ave to be convenient, but not so close as to get any of the crazy.

Good food, atmosphere, and staff. A great pub without the attitude. Did I mention free popcorn?

Cute and quiet, Martini’s is a little spot with a very calm atmosphere. A great place to head when all the bars on nearby Jasper Ave are packed out with loud and overly-exuberant crowds, this pub-style bar is relaxed, cozy and offers great drinks, free popcorn and comfortable booths to settle into for a good chat with friends, colleagues or dates.

With a casual pub atmosphere and free popcorn what else could I be looking for in a after work pub? A favourite haunt to catch up with friends who work downtown or to have a quick lunch. Friendly staff and cold beer.

Martini’s, with an atmosphere of a somewhat run-down English pub, is my favourite downtown spot for laid-back beer and a serious chat with a friend or two. I recently started coming here again after abandoning ship over the summer as it can get unbearably stuffy in there. The free popcorn is, of course, a major draw; they’ve also got a full menu and serve delicious thick-cut fries and a pretty tasty apple pie(with or without cheddar cheese). It’s dark, fairly quiet, and cozy, and I’m rather fond of the frosted French door opening to a lovely tiled bathroom.

I like to head on down to Martini’s whenever I get an inkling for popcorn but not a movie. This intimate little space has a tiny bar typically flanked by regulars talking sports, business, politics, nonsense or what have you. Sitting in front of virtually everyone is a basket of popcorn. The irresistibly salty snack is the oldest trick in the book to get patrons to drink more, and by golly, if it doesn’t work like a charm! An old, red nostalgic popcorn maker stands in the back and you can just grab a basket and help yourself. The waitresses and laid-back clientele give the place it’s comfortable old-shoe feel. Mary and Nancy are always happy to see you and pour you another bevvy. If you feel like a game of pool, there’s one table in the main room. If you just feel like mellowing, there are tables and booths in the back. The atmosphere’s quiet and dimly lit. Friday nights there’s a small buffet of free appies but they go fast. This is a great place for a second or third date, to catch up with friends over pitchers or drop in and shoot the breeze with other locals.
