This place is closed. Went there on 24-May-2013 and the windows are boarded up, and door is locked. Unilocal expects a star rating, So I’m giving it 3, I’m sure it would have been good if it had been open.

I didn’t know Lanna Thai Cuisine existed until my boyfriend and I were walking up the street one day. My boyfriend loves Thai food and was curious to know if the food was any good. The place appeared to be empty, but to be fair it is not at a good location. It’s on a main road, but further from the strip mall. so it could be easy to miss if you’re not looking for it. Tonight we went there and inside was already a party of four dining. I thought the restaurant was nicely decorated, even with the Valentine’s decorations on the walls. I ordered the Thai iced tea, which was pretty good. For our appetizers we had the fresh spring rolls and tom kha ghai soup. My boyfriend was impressed with the fresh spring rolls. I loved the tom kha ghai soup and was surprised that tomatoes were added to it, which was new to me since I’ve never eaten tom kha ghai with tomatoes. According to our pleasant waitress, the soup is for two people. However, it’s actually enough for four people, so we didn’t eat it all. For our entrees we ordered the Gang Kiew-Wan(Green Curry) with pork and the Nua Pad-Ped with beef. The food was very delicious. I don’t know if Lanna Thai Cuisine offers desert, but my boyfriend and I were full and the waitress didn’t ask if we wanted dessert anyway. During this time two more parties came in to dine. Lanna Thai Cuisine is a great restaurant with great food! Definitely five stars!

Tried this place tonight. Cute little authentic Thai place. First time here but was impressed food and service. It’s now one of my top two Thai places in Edmonton.

Lanna Thai is quaint but authentic. The décor is lacking but not because they’re not trying. They do the best with what they have. I actually came here when they first opened late last year but wanted to go again before writing a review. I ordered the Khao Soi soup and I was very impressed. The flavor was great and there was a lot of chicken. I should say that I was in a rush and when I told the owner she definitely accommodated me. I came in at the same time as a couple and when the owner came to great us she asked if it was for 3 and we all laughed and said no. Once she realized we were separate there was an awkward moment when she asked if I was waiting for others and I said it was just me. The reason I’m taking away a star is because of the bathroom. There was a really weird smell and it felt damp. I was going to play soccer afterwards so I had to change into my gear and it was not a pleasant experience(not that changing in any public bathroom is pleasant). All in all I would definitely come back to Lanna but make sure I don’t need to visit the facilities.

Tired of the same old pad thai and curry dishes? Tired of non Thai dishes masquerading as Thai? Get thee to Lanna Thai! This restaurant is a bit different than most in Edmonton, because they specialize in northern Thai. Northern Thai is a bit spicier, a bit more diverse and perhaps — dare I say it — more delicious than many central or southern dishes. And I used to live in southern Thailand. We were lucky enough to visit when they had just whipped up a batch of sausage for a Thai New Year party, and it was so good, we bought some to bring home and cook ourselves. The minced pork and lemongrass Lanna Thai sausage were a treat, and it was so nice to eat something housemade and a bit different. Can’t wait to try their Isaan version. Khao Soi, a dish I had a recent love affair on my last trip to Bangkok, is also featured. Although most restaurants in Thailand serve this as a soup, at Lanna Thai it is served as a noodle dish. As such, it’s less brothy than other Khao Sois I’ve had, but it’s still delicious. Served with fresh bean sprouts, red onion, crushed dried chilis, lime and cilantro you might think you were about to eat phở, but this is very different. It’s a coconut based curry soup, and it’s more complex than phở, and a lot heartier. Lanna Thai’s version is a bit more coconut-ier and less spicy than I’ve had and is not served with the traditional pickled/fermented condiments, but it’s still delicious. Larb neau, or beef larb is fresh, spicy and best with sticky rice. If you find it spicy, double up on the sticky rice, as their version is a bit peppier. Served by the very friendly family, you’ll feel right at home here. I’m in love with Lanna Thai, and may give up all other Thai restaurants in the city. It’s that good.

We decided to visit Lanna Thai Cuisine based on the other reviews and we were not disappointed. This is the best Thai food that I have found in Edmonton. The coconut rice was excellent and the green curry had just the right spice. The only thing that worried me was we were the only people in the restaurant at 6pm on a Saturday. More people need to come and try their delicious food or this wonderful restaurant may disappear. The family who runs it is as nice as can be and needs the community to support them. Will be back!

Family run thai place with very nice owners and great food. They are bringing the flavor of northern Thai to Edmonton and doing a great job of it. This is a newer restaurant and they are working very hard to give a great experience. Give them a try. You will be glad you did.

First of all the restaurant looks a little plain from the outside but the inside is quite nicely decorated. The service we received was excellent as we dropped in for lunch, she was very attentive and polite. The green papaya salad is probably the best i have had in Edmonton… and my standard is many places I have had it in Hong Kong. There is a variety of items on the lunch menu for $ 9.99 and it caters to both meat lovers and vegetarians. The curries are great and the portion size is quite reasonable for a lunch. Overall I think it is an excellent value and I’m sure we will be frequenting it for dinner.

Surprisingly authentic Thai food with all kinds of dishes you’ll never find at other Thai places(like fried papaya salad and mango prawns). Kind of pricey, but that’s Edmonton for you!

A chance encounter in an akward location; however well worth the effort, will be going back and telling my friends. Food is authentic and very tasty. A new Thai favorite in Edmonton from a fussy foodie.

I’m not going to pretend that I ever intended to go to Lanna Thai. In fact tonight we weren’t looking for Thai food at all. We were hoping to try out«The Kashmir Jewel». However, when we arrived at the address it turned out that the restaurant had changed hands a number of times and was now called«Lanna Thai Cuisine». Because it was late and we were already half-starved, we decided to give it a try and I’m so glad that we did. This was quite possibly the best Thai food I have ever tasted. When we first arrived, we were taken aback by how empty it was. Here we were, 7pm on a Saturday night and were the only customers in the entire restaurant. We asked our server when they had opened and were surprised to learn that they had only been open since September 1st. Since we were the only diners, all of the staff were incredibly friendly and attentive, and honestly I don’t think that will change when they have a fuller house. They were willing to answer questions and offer suggestions which is always appreciated. Just on service alone I knew that we were in for a good night. We ended up ordering the spring-rolls, pad thai vegetarian style, tom-yum-pak(vegetarian hot and sour soup), sweet and sour tofu, and mus-a-mun(a sweet hot curry with chicken). Since we ordered so many vegetarian dishes, the server also encouraged us to try the nightly special which was the som-tum-tod. It was made up finely diced papaya which was deep fried and served with a spicy peanut sauce. It was like nothing I have ever tasted. I expected it to be too salty and greasy for my liking. However, the papaya was very light and the sauce was a great compliment for it. All of our other dishes were also fantastic. The pad thai was particularly good. Not only were all of the vegetables fresh and colourful, the sauce was the perfect combination of spice and flavour. After striking up a conversation about his recent trip to Thailand, the waiter also included some key-chain souvenirs he had brought back with him with our bill. I thought that was a really nice personal touch. I only have a two critiques to make about my experience that prevent Lanna Thai from earning top marks from me: 1) The menu is somewhat odd and difficult to follow. Instead of having clearly defined categories, some sections are unexpectedly divided on separate pages. For instance, we didn’t even notice that the vegetarian section continued on to the next page until we started ordering. 2) There was some kind of refrigerator unit in the back that would start making a loud humming noise every half hour or so. It was so loud that it was difficult to hear the music playing in the background and we had to raise our voices to continue speaking amongst our table. Overall, I am incredibly happy that I accidentally ended up at Lanna Thai. I will definitely be returning and I recommend that anyone reading this checks out their official grand opening on October 8, 2011.
