I miss the old PowerPlant of years gone by… but Dewey’s is an okay campus licensed coffee shop/bar and if that is what you’re looking for, then it’s a fine venue. Food and beverage is inexpensive but is not particularly outstanding. Selection is limited and wait staff are slow to deal with tables particularly when it is busy. That said they have improved their technology in recent years so that helps a bit. I do like the fact that they have a number of non-alcoholic coffee shop beverages. The noise level can be frustrating particularly when they have live music(the accoustics are not great). The seating configurations can be awkward depending on the size of your group. The upstairs area has some more comfortable seating and the pool area is pretty open which is nice. The washrooms are accessible via stairs, and are nothing special. I would go most anywhere off campus instead of Dewey’s if given the time and the chance, but it’s nice to have a licensed facility in this part of campus anyway.

Losing my order isn’t a big deal for you, but if you’re assuring me it’s being made then finally fess up when it’s far too late for me to get other food on my short lunch break then of course I’m going to be angry. Dewey’s COULD work great, it has potential. Unavailable food, apathetic and unattentive staff, weird setup, it’s all just so odd that it’s still open at all.

Not a bad place to go after an exam or to work on group projects. The food takes to long to get to you and might be under or over cooked. Getting a drink takes a while since there is usually only one person working the bar and they are not hired based on speed.

Deweys is an alright place(better than RATT) to grab a beer or lunch while on Campus. Deweys has alright food and beer with decent prices but the set up doesn’t work very well in my opinion. There are no waitresses so you have to go to the bar to order food or beer(they will bring the food to you once it is ready). Also the whole set up of the tables is kind of awkward and difficult to navigate at times. It can very quickly fill with people so don’t be surprised if there aren’t any seats. People generally forget about how many pool tables are available if you want to play a game with some friends. That is probably the best part about Deweys, along with the location. Want to play pool or grab a quick beer/sandwich while on campus? Then check out Deweys(and not RATT).

This is the usual place my classmates and I will meet up to do projects. The seating upstairs is comfortable with several laptop plugins. Unfortunately, every time I’ve gone, part of the menu is unavailable. I think it’s an awesome place to hang out, but ther menu needs a lot of work.

Meh. Everyone on campus always wants to go to Dewey’s and while it’s better than RATT it still isn’t great. The have a decent taco salad and some good beers but it definitely isn’t my top pick of places to hang out on campus. That being said you can always find someone you know here so it’s great if you want to catch up with old friends.

I don’t like Dewey’s. There, I said it. I’m sorry, but I put Dewey’s on the same level as RATT because it is what it is: another college eatery on a university campus. I didn’t frequent Dewey’s enough as a student, only dropping in once in a blue moon for a beer, and now as university staff, I don’t fit in. There are good things about Dewey’s, namely all-day breakfast and $ 7-or-less dishes at that, but I’ll throw and extra $ 5 down if it means I can eat somewhere else. It’s not that the food is horrible, because it isn’t, it just isn’t that good either. You don’t have a server at Dewey’s, which I found a hassle. You place your order at the counter if someone is present and/or can look up from texting on their phone long enough to ask what you want and take your money. They then give you a number which you take back to your table so the food-delivery-person can deposit your meal in front of you after they’re done microwaving it in the kitchen. You won’t complain, because you only paid six-dollars for it, but as you take bite after bite you will try to pretend your meal is something else… or rather, just itself but at a different restaurant. This is like an independent Denny’s that you wandered into sober. But don’t worry, they’re licensed so you can get drunk if you need to.

Dewey’s definitely has at least 4 star potential. I love the space it’s in(part of the old Powerplant), and the menu is a step up from Ratt. Unfortunately, Dewey’s just doesn’t make it. For one, they never seem to have parts of their menu. I think almost every time I’ve gone, my first choice on the menu has been unavailable. The last time I was there, I got my 4th choice, and they were out of Coke. How does a bar run out of Coke?! Their hours are the big problem though. Unless you have a special booking, they close at 8 Monday to Friday and aren’t open on the weekends. The rates for booking aren’t bad though, although if you want an event catered you have to go with L’Express(barf). Swing and a miss.

I had plans to meet an old university friend off-campus the other day, but what with the weather being what it was(brrrrr!), she wasn’t too keen on walking somewhere off campus(she works for the U of A). I concurred and we decided on Dewey’s. Food, drink, and smack dab in the middle of campus. Perfect. I got there a bit early(yay me!) after practically sprinting from the train station to the pub. Do I call it a pub? It’s kind of one part café, one part pub, one part pool hall, one part study hall, one part music venue. It’s Dewey’s. We met on a Monday evening so it wasn’t too busy. A couple of guys shooting on the tables and an intense philosophical discussion going on across the room. The best part about Dewey’s is that is caters to a student budget. My large hot chocolate was only $ 2.(A small is $ 1.75!) That’s about half what a HC costs at my usual coffee shop haunts. Although I didn’t grab any food while I was here last time, my recommendation is the sweet potato fries. They’re not actually that much healthier for you than regular fries, especially when you factor in the dip(so delicious!), but they’re damn tasty and the perfect sharer. I would definitely come by more often, but as a not-real-student anymore I can’t get wireless here. Worth it for the inexpensive food, beer and coffees, though. Five stars if I were in school, three stars as an alum.
