Coles

It’s sad to see what has become of Coles since the intro of megastores and online shopping. This store is very cramped, bleak and limited in selection. Did not have a recent popular Canadian book I sought. I was in the area and thought I’d try to give them my business first, but I was disappointed. Back to Chapters I go.

Lovely little store with friendly service.
Is it just me? Or are they a little cheaper than Chapters? There isn’t as much selection, but there’s still little delights to grab for stocking stuffers and cute little gifts.
There’s the ever present mini books, but I really liked the environmental conscious ‘Grow Me Money Plant’ as well as other plants and flowers in a cube.
Need stocking stuffers for the man who hates everything? I picked up a little contraption for the husband. You push buttons, and it gives various sound effects. There was another type available, but it only made increasingly obnoxious farting sounds. Maybe I should get him that one too.
Score of the day was the $ 25.00 ‘Starfinder – The Complete Beginner’s Guide to Exploring the Night Sky.’ It came with it’s own planisphere disk.
I’m sure I’ll be back again before Christmas.

Definitely one of your lower end Coles (or chapters/​indigos) in edmonton. It’s pretty quit and empty most of the time which is good if you just want to browse, but if you are looking for something specific or want a larger variety of choices, make your way to other bookstores.

Having recently relocated and renovated in the Kingsway mall after their renovations, I decided to check the new Coles location out. Coles was always a popular retreat of mine when I wanted to take a break from the mall environment and just pick up a magazine. The new location definitely feels smaller than their old location, and now feels similar to their downtown location. They have a good selection of fiction, non-​fiction, and kids books, but it’s still nothing compared to the much larger Chapters locations around the city.
The staff here were helpful at finding a book though. It was a bit cheaper than what I saw at Chapters, and they were able to track down one of their remaining copies.

So times are crazy with Christmas coming up and so are the shopping malls. I recently got the chance to check out the new Coles bookstore located on the lower level of Kingsway Garden Mall (just outside of Zellers). The place looks great even though it feels small. The store was a happenin’ place to be since the place was packed with shoppers. I really don’t like to shop so I’m a list maker. I go in, get what I want and get out. I had a list of four books to locate before I had a panic attack. James, a Coles employee, was my hero. He located three out of the four books on my list… I was able to find the last one on my own using the computer for directions. The staff was great and I would totally go back to do my book shopping and I suggest you do the same.
