First time I came here, I ordered their Baton Rouge Burger and it was delicious. It came with fries that were seasoned with salt and pepper I believe, and they were seriously kick-ass. However, i came back here a second time and ordered off their lunch menu. I received coffee(which was good), beef and tomato soup(really good), the Big Devil Burger(good, just not for me), and fries(which were really disappointing and different from the first time I was here). I came back because of how nice the manager was the first time and because the fries were delicious. I may specifically ask for them to be cooked the way they were the first time or just order something different as a side. That said, the waiters/waitresses are super kind and quick and I will continue to go back.

Came here with the family when back in Ottawa. Lukewarm house soup, meh steak and very odd service(our server may have been new).

Great selection. I had a lobster sandwich and it was pretty good.

Well done. Standard good steak and fair appetizers and desserts. Vegetables, baked potato, and mushrooms were well done. Limited wine list, just the basics. Scotch came in a Glencairn glass, which was nice. Very well done for a chain, especially a Canadian one.

My favorite place to eat in Ottawa. Always great service, always great food, and the best ribs in town. I find Baton Rouge to be the best value in town.

My family and I went to Ottawa for the weekend and I ordered the chicken tenders because there wasn’t much options on the menu to begin with period. We waited over an hour for our food and I was very excited when the chicken tenders came because it looked so good. However, I was very disappointed with it. The tenders was overly battered, under seasoned and very little chicken. I had to peel off most of the batter and dip it in hot sweet chilli sauce that the waiter suggested. The mashed potatoes was okay, but needed a little bit more seasoning. The rest of my family ordered the salmon and santa fe chicken and they were not impressed. It will be the first and last time I will eat at Baton Rouge(Albert St). I wouldn’t recommend anyone who’s coming from Toronto(who are use to fast service and delicious food) to eat there. I will give thumps up for the presentation and customer service.

Food is okay. Service is good. Never going back because there is no WIFI. I was there for lunch. Blew all my data and lunch cost 3 times as much. Get with the program!

I’m close to giving this place five stars, but they’re not quite there yet in my mind. Most likely it’s because I’m not a fan of steak or ribs, and that is what this place specializes in. We came on a Saturday night and the place was PACKED. We had reservations for a couple of weeks to celebrate some fun family things, and while Noah K and I were 15 minutes late, when we got there the rest of our party still hadn’t been seated. Now, I know this isn’t totally the front of staff’s fault, because they can only turn over the tables as fast as people can leave, but it did leave a bit of a bad taste in our mouthes. After about 20 minutes of waiting I asked the hostess what was up and she said we would be seated shortly. Another five minutes and we were escorted to our table. I’m not sure if I missed a coat rack somewhere, but it would have been awesome as we all had winter jackets and they just got thrown behind the booths. Again, just a tiny detail, not a huge deal. Our server was very professional, but not super friendly. I actually preferred the other servers who dropped off our food and drinks — they were quick with a smile and super polite. We ordered the two dips for appetizers — the cheese dip and the spinach dip. Both were served with mounds of tasty tortilla chips and I loved both of them! I feel like spinach dip can be super bland, but this was superb! The cheese dip was a combination of cheese and tomatoes which I LOVED. I probably could have eaten the whole thing, but thankfully, there were six of us to split it! I ordered the passion fruit mojito and it was excellent(I even got talked into a second!). Noah said he found it a bit strong, but I thought it was great. For my main course I was a bit torn, as I mentioned before, I’m not a rib or steak eater. I would have gone with seafood, but one of our dining partners was allergic, so I went with the chicken sandwich and coleslaw. It might have been because I was so full from the apps(my bad!), but I wasn’t super impressed with my meal. That being said, I brought half of the sandwich home and ate it the next day and it was AWESOME. I was likely just too full to realize it at the time, ha. The sandwich had an amazing sauce on it(bbq that’s made in house), and the chicken was really tasty. I would totally come back to Baton Rouge, but likely not on a Friday or Saturday night since it’s so busy, and I felt a bit rushed. I came here for a meeting once, and loved the atmosphere when it wasn’t so packed, so will likely be back for lunch.

It’s a holiday in your mouth! Is exactly how I would describe their food. I order their streak with mashed potatoes and veggies. Check out the picture! I like my streak medium and it was done perfectly. Juicy and full of flavor. The service was excellent once we got to our tables. We had reservations but still needed to wait 15−20minutes before getting seated. But the food was well worth the wait.

Third time here and still disappointed. Same issue each time — lacklustre, blasé service. The ribs are tasty as heck, sure, but they need to be if we’re paying $ 30 plus for a half rack + shrimp skewer. Sides & dessert were okay but nothing remarkable. Service was weak almost to the point of being bad. No water refills despite server coming twice to ask for additional drink orders and looking straight at the empty glasses. Failure to clear away bowls full of bones despite clearing away plates. Didn’t even look at some members of our table when speaking to them. Waiter just did not seem to want to even try to be attentive or caring. Try the Keg in Byward Market instead, unlike this place they will make you feel like your business matters.

I brought my boyfriend here for his birthday. The food was good, he really enjoyed the ribs. Our waiter Tom gave good recommendations on soups and sides for the main meal. I was disappointed that the side veggies are frozen veggies. For the price of the meal I expect fresh veggies. There was a miscommunication between the hostess and our waiter regarding the surprise birthday dessert. This frustrated me as his birthday surprise was ruined. I contacted the manager via email and relayed my frustration and he did contact me to apologize and notifies me that the staff had been told about the issue, so it hopefully won’t happen again. I hope this doesn’t happen to others on their birthday.

I had lunch today at Bâton Rouge. I ordered the Chicken Tenders Platter with garlic mashed potatoes and honey mustard dipping sauce. I’ve had them lots of times before(in Toronto and Montréal) and like them. When the plate arrived, I thought, «WOW!» because they looked amazing. But then I discovered that there was very little chicken and a LOT of batter. Plus the potatoes were piping hot and the chicken was barely warm. I was definitely disappointed :( Erron was my server and he took good care of me.

Been back here a few times Since my first review. Ordered the ribs and chicken tenders. It sounded promising but when i got the dish, i just couldn’t take my eyes off the chicken strips. Normally chicken strips are lightly breaded but these were like fish and chips style deep fried. Didn’t really like it that way but decided to still try it. It was ok but not my preference. The ruins are why you come here… very tasty and it feel of the bones. For $ 26, you get a lot of food. I’ll come back to try the ribs and prawns next time.

Excellent! I’ve been to many Baton Rouge restaurants in the country and I have to say the food tastes better and the staff are friendlier! The Fillet is hand cut and melts in your mouth. Many Gluten free options, even dessert. I would recommend this restaurant if you want a really good meal and really good service!

Your typical downtown high-end restaurant/steakhouse. The décor is beautiful; the service is great(what you’d expect for the prices). Drinks are reasonably priced. The menu ranges from $ 20 – 50 per person; appetizers are all around $ 10 each. For the price our group stuck with the appetizers. The cheddar dip was good, with just the right amount of spice in the cheese and with fresh, warm nachoes. The calamari was crisp and light. The crab cakes were light and crispy and a good nice.

Had the baseball steak was very good. Service was so so. I think the waiter had to many table so had to wait longer then usual but overall was a good experience. But next time i will skip the caesar salut for something else. Was not very good. They need to look what a salad is suppose to look like.

I never go wrong with their ribs. At lunch they even have a smaller portion option. Staff is always friendly and the service is fast since they all work together to get your meal to you. The only thing is the chicken fingers were over battered.

Yay! Before I start, I highly disagree with the $$$$ expensive rating for this restaurant. Not at all. I’m picky about pricing, and Baton Rouge is very reasonable.(Note: As of 3÷19÷2013, the rating is now $$, which I agree with.) So I’ve been to several Baton Rouge locations from Quebec City to Toronto and this location is my favourite. They consistently(3-for-3 now) serve up exactly what they promise, done the way they promise it. Had my «usual» potato soup and seared ahi tuna tonight. The soup was flavourful and hearty, just as advertised, and the tuna was seared and served. Blue, blue, blue. One sliver on one end had some tough parts, but it was minuscule. And that ginger-lime dressing is beyond outstanding. I want to take some home. I went at grandparent-feeding hour because I was on my way out of the city, back home. Everything was right the first time. No hassles, just simple done right. I made a point to make one simple request to the manager: don’t change a thing. (Ok, ok, then the bill was wrong, showing a different price from the menu. That’s not good. But the server corrected it right away with apologies. What more can I ask for?) My various experiences at different locations are further proof of how difficult it is to maintain consistent standards through a chain of restaurants. One thing is clear, though, other Baton Rouge locations should line up to take lessons from this one. Bön appetit!

It’s always a good time at the Baton Rouge! Great ambiance, terrific service, and wonderful food! I have and will go back again and again. My favourite menu item is the ribs, and so often with my girlfriends, we‘ll go to the one downtown just for them. But we have one close to home too, which I go to with my husband and outside of work friends. For this event it was the downtown location we went to as we had an out of town friend visiting Ottawa, and he was staying so close to this restaurant that it just made sense to go here. My hubby and I decided to try the steak, just for a change, and although it was tasty enough(very wonderfully garlicky, for sure!), it was still not as good as the ribs! Worth a try though. On the other hand, I have to say that I had a garlic hangover the next day! Boy I could still taste and smell it on myself! Overall, I would have to say that Baton Rouge is on the pricier scale; it’s not a place I can afford to go to that often, so I get to savour it for special occasions and once in a while. That might be 4 to 6 times a year, if I’m lucky :-)

Great place for large groups and parties. Went here on a Thursday evening, with a group of six for a birthday party. We were greeted by one server who took our drink orders, then by another who took our meal orders. The service was very friendly and full of smiles! 3 rib and chicken meals were ordered, a sandwich and an appetizer. Ribs were fall off the bone, but chicken was a tad dry. They had no problems with any of us sharing or splitting a meal between two people; some places do! Received a big slab of birthday brownie cake to share as a group desert. Will be back, portions were huge, be prepared for A LOT of fries if you order that for your side! They are far from stingy!
