Sorry to say but SAMs use to be one of my favourites but they have let me down to many times lately. It’s like the owner really doesn’t care anymore.

We went to the Baker Drive location for dinner then ended up at the Main Street location for desert(half our party went to the Main Street by accident). We started off with the party platter. It had deep fried mushroom, zucchini sticks, mozza sticks and onion rings. All of the items tasted like it was frozen. My husband and I had the ½ rack of ribs with fries, coleslaw, and a bun for $ 17.99. The ribs were tasty and meaty. But that was the only good thing on the plate. The fries were hand cut, but soggy. The bun was stale. The coleslaw had no flavour. My daughter ate a club and fries, but they costed extra and the waitress failed to mention this when she asked. She said the club was good, but the fries were still soggy. My parents both had fish and chips. They enjoyed the taste and the pieces of fish were big. Again, soggy fries and for a restaurant that has ‘seafood’ in its name they don’t make their own tartar sauce! We ended up going to the Main Street location to have desert with the rest of our group. My husband and I tried the crème brûlée cheesecake. It tasted like it has been sitting in the cardboard box for too long. Overall a disappointing meal. They have taken the easiest things to make tasty and fresh and failed on all of them.

My husband & I go to Sam’s often, especially on the weekends for breakfast. Two eggs with ham, home fries and toast for $ 4.99. You can make it at home for that! If you go there during the week, make sure you get there before 10:45am, if you want breakfast. They use unsalted bacon so we find that does not have much flavor, but the ham is really good. We like Maria to serve us whenever possible. She never writes anything down and she is so friendly. The other staff are nice as well. For dinner, we enjoy the burgers, the fish & chips and the steak special.

Well, I’ve finally had it with Sam’s. No more disappointing meals. We have been regulars there for the last number of years. But recently, they have changed their fries with the meals and the«hashbrowns’ with the breakfasts. The last 4 times, the fries were somewhat raw and soggy. The hashbrowns this morning looked cooked but then bit into one and found it was somewhat raw. Tried another, same. Yet again, the same. Shared this with the server, she apologized but no offer to replace it or comp us for a portion of the meal. If you have been to Sam’s you know about ½ the breakfast is the hashbrowns. I have encouraged others to go their, but no more. I will be warning people. It is not worth going their until they go back to the way they used to prepare and serve their potatoes. Now in search of a new breakfast spot and fish & chip joint.

I and my wife enjoy Sam’s on occasion. The portion sizes are ridiculously generous for the price but reflects in the food quality. The fish is usually a little overcooked but otherwise good. My wife enjoys the Lasagna.

The portions are large, meals are pretty good. Can’t complain about the prices. But the bathrooms? Yuck. Yuck. Yuck. The women’s bathroom has smelled bad every time I have been here. #BathroomFail

I have to say I did not enjoy Sam’s. They advertise a 7 day, all day breakfast, so that is what I tried. The best thing I can say about the place was the service was friendly. Coffee refills without asking etc. But the food was not so enjoyable. We waited about 50 minutes for a 2 egg breakfast, the hash browns were not good and the bacon was even worse. The price was about right, $ 5.50, but even with that in mind I wouldn’t ever order breakfast from there again. Maybe I should have tried the fish and chips. The search for a good breakfast place in Dartmouth continues…

Oh Sam’s…this is not somewhere I would normally choose but when I’m outvoted four-to-one, I suppose I don’t have much choice. Still, the restaurant proudly wearing the old Pizza Hut hat just off of Main Street managed to rustle up some charm. The menu is a decent size with all kinds of seafood, steak, ribs, and chicken dishes with an entire chalkboard full of additional specials near the main entrance. Most orders are under $ 10 which is a bonus and the server was friendly, fun and helpful which I’ve learned not to take for granted. When the plates arrived, well, they were platters. Huge platters. Even the half rack of ribs came close to touching either end of the plate with a massive mound of fries on the side. While the food isn’t mind-blowing(at least not for me), you’re getting great value and won’t leave anything less than satisfied. To be completely honest, my own experience there that night was more of a two-star given that the only two vegetarian options on the whole menu were spaghetti in tomato sauce or lettuce, peppers and onion in a wrap. I have major beef with having to choose between two things I could make at home but the service, portion sizes, and their ability to please a table of otherwise very picky meat-eaters definitely earns a solid three-stars no matter what the cranky vegetarian thought.

$ 4.95 lunch specials! Yes please. Where else can you grab a fresh cooked meal and a bevvy for under $ 10? I was strolling around my old ‘hood today waiting for my bike to get it’s yearly spa treatment and stopped in to grab lunch. The restaurant was fairly busy, but not noisy. The specials were on display on a chalkboard sign at the front, listing many specials, at least a dozen. I love having the selection, usually you’re only offered one or 2 daily specials, not here, like their portion size it’s huge. My server was friendly and quick. She was attentive when I was finished and promptly asked it I was ready for the bill. I was not blown away, but for it’s value it gets a solid 3 stars. Not very wheelchair friendly and no wi-fi.
