Village Brewery

Excellent line of beers! It was introduced to me through a friend and I quickly fell in love. Like the other reviewer said, I normally do not like dark beer but Village’s blacksmith is really good. I went hunting for it and to my surprise I found it at Co-​op Dalhousie on sale for $ 20.

Village Brewery is the newest local brewery to hit the Calgary scene.
The Blacksmith, Blonde, and Wit are three solid beers that they can begin to grow a following around. With these three beers, everyone will find something that appeals to them. I particularly enjoy the Blacksmith because it is a really clean, crisp, dark brew. Even non-​dark beer drinkers tend to like this one.
What I am really looking forward to is the expansion of their base offerings. Case in point: Their winter seasonal is a Chai Winter Porter called Village Monk. They teamed up with the folks at Silk Road Spice Merchant to pull this one off. It certainly shows, because they were aiming for hints of cardamom, clove, ginger, fennel, mint and peppercorn. Now those are some solid winter flavors! This beer is very successful because the chai flavors come through without being too overwhelming. I will definitely be seeking it out at pubs around town. They also sell their product directly from the brewery. Last weekend I picked up a growler (1.89 L) which comes in an awesome oversized branded bottle.
They aren’t JUST about the beer either. Village is big on supporting the community, arts and local businesses. Some recent highlights include teaming with Clive Burger to sell pint glasses (proceeds going to charity), and supporting the Soup Sisters fundraising & awareness campaign. I like their philosophy, and the fact that they are ACTUALLY getting involved. This is beer that not only tastes great, but that I can also feel good about supporting.

Amazing beer! I don’t normally like dark beers but Blacksmith is incredible. I am so proud this Calgary brewery is so great!
In addition to dark beers they also have a great Blond, and they do a lot of cool stuff to support local arts and culture. These guys were selling discount beer at Sled Island, and the Calgary Fringe Festival this summer.

I went to Village Brewery for a music video release back in March of 2012. I did not know of it at the time and was pleasantly surprised by their products.
The blonde is quite hoppy for a golden beer, and I really enjoyed it. Their dark ale which is called «Blacksmith» is quite good too. Something I’d enjoy on a cold winters night.
I’m looking forward to seeing this business expand and trying their new products.
