Theatre Junction GRAND

Anyways after years of being a mediocre friend to Mike, I decided to finally see a full production of his play.
I have to say that the stage for Theatre Junction is amazing. I’m no theatre buff but the large room allows the players so much room to move and for various stage effects to take place.
I’m not too sure if I would go back here to see other works unless I personally know anyone in the cast. I’m not much of a theatre buff and the production seemed intense and required a lot of thinking on my part, which I don’t do a lot of of on the weekends. The ticket prices are on par with other play venues such as Theatre Calgary.

I recently attended a work town hall at this venue. What a cool space. The mix of old and new design/​décor is amazing. The venue would be well suited for a range of parties, events, meetings and shows without being boring like a hotel venue.
The location (downtown) is easily accessible on foot or by transit –probably a good think as parking might be tricky especially during work hours.
Our event was catered with light snack food and all were classics (grilled cheese, french toast etc) with a fresh modern spin. The staff were professional and polite and seemed to care about where they work. Memmbers of my department planned they event and I have heard The grande was very helpful along the way in the planning and coordination making sure our employees had the best experience.

I’ve been luckiy enough to see two shows at the Grand Theatre. One was a concert (Patrick Watson) and the other a musical (The Full Monty). Both of these shows were perfect fits for my favourite space in Calgary.
The seats are amphitheater-​style, which means that there are practically no bad seats. And here is a quick tip for you: many of the shows at the Grand are rush-​seating and you’ll see lots of people lining up outside the doors on the main-​floor, but beat them to the punch and head upstairs. The doors open at the same time and you can grab a great seat fast!
In a city that has struggled to merge history and money, the Grand is a terrific example of a wonderful space that can make any show memorable, while embracing its historic architecture.
The Grand also had a great lounge/​restaurant where you can enjoy a pre-​show drink or snack. If you decide to go there, it will definitely cut down on you driving around downtown Calgary trying to find two places to park.
I don’t mean to bring up washrooms in yet another review, but the bathrooms at the Grand have to be talked about. They are unisex! Well sorta, the bathrooms are divided for boys and girls, but everyone meets at the sink to wash their hands and fix their hair. Ally McBeal would love it.
If you are going to see a show at the Grand, consider me very jealous!

Had a meeting the other day to view this space as an events space and man did it blow me away. Set in the heart of downtown, this 100 year old historic building still conveys its original pride in its golden leaf mouldings, the original theatre ceiling and original walls. Most of the architecture has been updated and the lobby area houses the sexy and sultry Velvet Restaurant.
The main theatre is a jaw dropping thing to experience, from the catwalk you see an expansive area with rolling seats that can be set up as a classic theatre formation or can be set up against all four walls with the stage in the center. The hardwood floor is rich and dark and the brick wall is an interesting urban feel which could house really unique staging.
The theatre was renovated by theatre diehard loyalists and you can tell the dedication that has been put into this venue as everything is so well taken care of.
There is a killer mezzanine area, with a bar that presently has been popular for wine and scotch tasting events.
The only criticism I would have is because of all the historic restoration they are not so open to hosting youth events there but it is understandable considering the fine details of the architecture.
All in all the place is a superb location and akin to theatre spaces I have seen in New York City and Toronto, but it’s not its grandness is all right here in Calgary.
