My children have been patients at Dr Barsky for over 3 years. Three children twice a year at 350+ means I have spend over $ 3,000 in this office. In January we moved to a new area of town. Two weeks ago I call to change dentist to an office closer to my house. We see the new dentist in 3 months for cleaning. Yesterday my daughter’s crown came off. It was during Dr. Barsky’s offices lunch hour. We drove to the office and wait for them to open after lunch. I explained my daughter’s dental emergency. The front desk told me that my children’s accounts were closed and their office was booked up. They did not offer to help me find an avaiable dentist. The front desk lady quizzed me on the age of the crown and informed me that they did not put in the crown and could not help me. I left the office with a crying child that needed a dentist. WOW. Poor service. It was Friday before a long weekend. Thank goodness a friend recommended Brentwood Village Dental.

We came here for my 3 yr old daughter. She loves hygienists but when it comes to dentists NOWAY! Our dentist was unable to work on her cavities so we had a referral sent here. It took a couple months to get our initial appointment. Once in we received our consultation and were set up with dental surgery at their surgical suite. My daughter was at this time, also deathly afraid of hospitals so it was good news that the dental surgery was performed in an office type setting. The front desk staff are great. Very friendly. The lady in the financial department was easy to work with. Set up a payment plan that worked for us. Day of surgery went well. Very nice surgical suite. Great waiting room. The toys made my daughter’s anxiety lessen. She was able to play her stress and worry away. Once back into the surgery area the nurse and Dr Barsky were so nice and calming. They let my daughter know what they were going to do(well how they help her fall asleep that is). She was so relaxed in this setting. After surgery we again received wonderful care. They woke her up with a Freezie which is all she remembers. I highly recommend this dental office!!! Especially if you have an anxious child.

After a recommendation from my sons dentist that he required a pediatric dentist, we were provided a list of dentists. We interviewed a few and found one that was a great fit. We went to Dr. Barsky and he put us at ease. His office is kid friendly and a perfect place for your little ones. Everything from kids books, a play area as well as kid friendly pictures through out the office and the patient dental rooms. Dr. Barsky has kids himself and was so great with our little guy from day one. Our son required dental surgery, hence why his regular dentist recommended someone with more experience and specialized in kids dentistry. After our first appt, we booked the surgery which was months away to do the surgery of pulling two teeth. Ouch. The appt was to be at a surgical center and under general anesthetic since he is a child. Too much trama otherwise. Everything went great and the staff and dentist were wonderful. We have had three visits with Dr Barsky(initial consult, surgery and post op appt) and he has been so friendly, awesome with our little guy and has gone the extra mile to make sure our child is not scared of the dentist. We will continue to see him for all our childs dental needs. Highly recommend Dr Barsky and his staff.

We took our daughter to Dr. Barsky because that is where we took our son(who is much older). The staff at Dr. Barsky’s office is amazing but I never did care for Barsky’s chair-side manner and it always seemed odd to me that he worked with children. My son never had any dental problems however so all was ok. My daughter however was another problem. She had issues. Dr. Barsky filled a couple of areas with white composite and some molars with amalgam(mercury!) which wasn’t adequately explained to me and I was very disappointed. He did not freeze anything when he filled her teeth and he does not use nitrous. He hurt her at some point(she’s dramatic so I’m sure it wasn’t as bad as she was making it out to be) and it made all following dental appointments a nightmare. One appointment he said that there was an area that they were just watching and we should come back in 3 months. When we came back we were told that she needed several crowns(2 in teeth he’d already filled), root canals and a possible extraction. My heart just sank. We’d been doing everything right! Especially since the last appointment! Now all of a sudden we’ve gone from we’re ‘watching’ an area to extensive work under general anesthesia! I felt like a lot of that could have been addressed earlier! I was not happy. And I did not want to put my girl under a general to have the work done. While the staff is great, I wouldn’t recommend Barsky. There are pediatric dentists in Calgary who will do extensive work with nitrous so get a second opinion! We saw 4 – 5 dentists before we found one we liked, Dr. Tim Seto!

Ok, Dr Barsky is the dentist I had prior to moving on to Dr Chan. And why did I move? Well, Dr Barsky is a pediatric dentist. A dentist that I went to long after ceasing to be a child. Despite Dr Barky’s assurances that I could stay until I had kids of my own(and even then), I decided to leave when one of the dental hygenists mistook me for my own mother. Having only glanced at my chart, she assumed«I» was quite small — 3 or 4, and that I was my mother. I was really offended, but decided it was time to move on. A waiting room is awesome when covered in kids toys, but it was a sacrifice I had to make to save my own dignity. That being said, there was a reason I went to Dr Barsky for so long. The purple office was upbeat and fun, and more than a little unusual. The chairs themselves are also purple, and there are cute pictures drawn by patients and posters everywhere. There are several flavours of fluoride available: from bubblegum to strawberry, and you got to pick from a cute chart with pictures. And if you were good, you got a prize… Ok, ok, it was time to move on! Dr Barsky has a way with people(and kids in particular) that made it hard to leave. This can be seen in the long waiting periods it takes to book an appointment: you must do it nearly six months in advance. If I had kids though, I would take them to him. It actually makes going to the dentist a treat.
