On a beautiful summer night, there is nothing better than a beer and a hot dog at a ball park. Optimist Park is a decently run City of Calgary complex. It has a hockey arena that is very utilized, it has TONS of park and green space(being sandwiched in between two schools) and gives a home to baseball, slo pitch, field hockey and soccer games. But there are some basic amenities that this bad boy is missing. First off, the washroom situation is limited. They boys baseball diamond has washrooms(that are often out of order) attached to their concession stand, which I am not even sure is run by the city. In the main quad, they have porta potties which they thankfully moved away from right behind one of the fields benches. It also has an abandoned concession stand(most likely for underage kids to meet up and drink at night) so make sure you eat before the game. As well — why is the parking lot in long ball distance of the outfields? You have to arrive early to make sure you get a parking spot far enough away from the fields so your car isn’t a sitting target for the nightly bomb squad. It’s in a nice neighbourhood, easily accessible and most importantly, the fields are somewhat well maintained.
