I moved here from Richmond, BC a year ago,(best sushi outside Japan) and I gotta tell ya this place is pretty good for Calgary. It’s not cheap, but I find it comparable in the city, good service and decent size sashimi pieces.

Was actually surprised that being across the road from chinook more people don’t know about this but I guess it’s the parking etc that makes it a bit tricky. Nice and quiet and good combo rolls. The pieces of sushi are larger then most in town. The prices are average. The sushi chefs even welcome you and say goodbye. The service is great and stylish

I live fairly close to Momo and the prices are much better than Globe Fish so it’s usually my sushi place of choice. The rolls are interesting and well put together. I love their negitoro roll(tuna belly with a little piece of green onion). Pro: Clean, cute, good sushi and service Cons: I really hate the spicy sauce on the spicy tuna rolls and spicy tuna sashimi. It’s my favorite thing to order at most sushi places but Momo’s sauce choice is just not for me. The sauce overpowers the flavor of the fish completely

I really love Momo Sushi. I’ve been about 5 or 6 times. The menu is simple, but the fish is usually very fresh, and prepared well. This is nothing fancy, but really great quality sushi. Will definitely keep coming back.

This place is literally right across the street from Chinook. Took one look at the line at Globefish and drove out, turned left and was seated with a hot tea. Staff was very friendly and quick. Reading some other reviews I thought it would be pricey, but I thought the opposite. Generous size portions for sashimi, 15 pcs for $ 17.95. I would say that’s cheaper than the handful I usually dine at. I was thoroughly impressed with the tempura and agedashi tofu as well. The batter is done light and there’s a good variety of vegetables and 4 shrimp. I was getting really tired of eating batter that tastes like old gross oil from some other places. Someone also mentioned that they have just the average Japanese menu. Which is true, because they are a Japanese restaurant. Not a Japanese fusion — put random ingredients in a roll– restaurant. They do have some popular rolls like the BC roll, Alaska roll etc. Momo sushi keeps the heart of Japanese fare genuine– simple and very well done. Plus points for the ginormous tea pot they keep refilling, even without asking. Plus even more points because I will admit I have eaten here before when they first opened. It wasn’t even 4 stars. But it looks like they have made leaps and bounds and improved based on critique and feedback from customers. That earns my respect and patronage. Review #10 of Unilocal’s 30 Day Challenge 2012

Cute, small place. Prices are reasonable/average. Our waitress wasn’t able to tell us what was in some of the rolls when we asked, not a huge deal. Ordered the kara-Age, Yam, California & dynamite rolls. Kara-Age was delicious, came served with 5 pieces, mayo and Cajun salt dry spice to dip. The California roll was decent, normally sized. The Yam & Dynamite rolls in the other hand were so MASSIVE it was hard to eat a single piece without almost choking or having it completely fall apart in your plate. Taste was good, size, not so good for eating. The only rolls that seemed to be small were the lower prices rolls(veggie) guess the more you pay the bigger it was. Price for the Maki sushi ranged from $ 2.50(avocado roll) to just over $ 11(Spider roll).

I started to appreciate Momo Sushi more and more, lately. It is actually a pretty good place, a bit overpriced for the portion size, though. Portions are very small, though well prepared. They arrive fast, and service is friendly. A bit uneven at times, but the girls excuse that with a genuinely positive attitude and a smile. But there were cases when I was hungry and had to order an appetizer after the main plate just to stop feeling hungry. Personally I’d prefer a better balance between the quality, size and price of the plates, so Momo won’t be a four star in my books — but I am totally ok to return or recommend this place to someone who just wants sushi immediately next to the Chinook mall.

Good food, beer, saki and service on all accounts. Accommodating a solid penchant for sushi in Calgary isn’t easy however they come as close to mark as I’ve seen. Huzzah.

Kat and I often get sushi cravings that lead us into trouble; case in point, last weekend we had a date and when deliberating about what to eat, we only needed to give each other a sly look and nod. SUSHI! So we decided to try out this place across Chinook Center; we haven’t been before, and Angelo T. recommended it as decent. We were struck by the charming intimacy, and as soon as we started rattling off our demands, we realized we might need a bigger table. We got takoyaki and gyoza to start, and both were as good as we’ve ever had. We then ordered the smoked salmon and dynamite rolls, along with the standard California rolls, and to top it off, Kat got a teriyaki beef rice bowl, and I got a dinner box with 5 pieces of sashimi, teriyaki pork and tuna rolls. Immediate regrets! Our table happily groaned with the weight, and we ate as diligently as we could; needless to say, Kat’s bowl was untouched and came home with us. The food was delicious; I don’t normally get sashimi, but the pieces were fresh and texturally sound. The teriyaki had an interesting sweet undertone, almost as if cinnamon was present. I think perhaps a smaller order would have worked better to give all the items their chance to shine. The service was good and enthusiastic, and I would recommend Momo as a good place to satisfy a sushi craving.

We visited this place on Boxing Day, despite our attempts to get into Globefish @ Chinook. We were immediately greeted and seated by a couple of friendly waitresses. They were very quick and prompt with their service. The menu at Momo Sushi had the average items you would see in most sushi restaurants, nothing special jumped out at me when I saw it. The prices were average, much like if you went to other sushi joints along MacLoed Trail. I ordered some nigiri-zushi and a California roll, and finished with a couple bowls of refreshing miso soup. The sushi was fresh enough for me to eat it with very little to no soy sauce, but wasn’t inspiring enough for me to compare it to the sushi I’ve had at other places. Finally I finished my meal with green tea ice cream, which doesn’t get any better or worse in this city. Overall Momo sushi hits the spot if one was looking for a simple and filling meal after a day of shopping. I just wish that they had their own special rolls that stood out or a «freshest fish» menu like Wa’s has. It feels like they need to put on a leather jacket and scream«forget those clowns across the street! come party with us!!»
