When I was a kid my parents would take me to the stadium to watch the Calgary Cannons play. A lot of the feelings that I get when I watch when watching a Vipers game surface out of nostalgia. It’s good, clean family fun. It’s really close to the Ctrain and the parking is free. I love it when the sun is out in full force and I can really soak in some rays while enjoying an afternoon or evening of baseball. If you want real bang for your buck wait until a game has been cancelled due to rain — it’s usually followed the next day with a double header. The food isn’t exactly amazing so I suggest you eat before you see a game unless you’re really Jonesing for a hotdog or burger. I recommend getting upper bowl tickets and then moving into lower bowl if the seats aren’t taken, which is pretty much a given due to low attendance. Don’t forget to bring a pocket full of change for the home run bucket!

I took in an opening weekend game with great weather. The quality of ball being played is fine. There isnt a bad seat in the house as the stadium can hold a maximum of 6000 I believe. BBQ on site with cold beer. A great way to spend a summer afternoon. Its too bad that Calgarians arent taking full advantage of this as the stands were pretty empty. Lots of families with young kids as it is pretty inexpensive. Their website has many specials available with discounts and parking is free with the LRT a 5 minute walk away. I also heard that Jose Canseco will be in town the weekend of June 24th as he is playing for visiting squad.

I love baseball and was happy to hear when we moved that there was a professional team playing just down the street from our house. We were only able to take in one game this year, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. They have a nice little ballpark next to McMahon stadium and there really isn’t a bad seat in the house. We showed up on a night where they were playing a double-header and we got tickets to both games for the price of one. This is how to keep the fans happy. The prices aren’t bad either; we got the best seats in the place behind the dugout for $ 15. The Vipers play in the Golden League, the same league that Ricky Henderson was playing in a few years ago and the same league that’s suing disgraced baseball icon Jose Canseco. But the league boasts good players with a mix of young up-and-comers and former major leaguers. Felix Jose was playing for the Vipers the night we saw them. He hit a double that he could have easily stretched into a triple a decade ago. But it is good baseball… In fact, the Blue Jays called up a pitcher this year from the Edmonton team(I can’t recall his name now). I’m looking forward to taking in more games next year; sitting in the summer evening air, sipping cold beer and watching an excellent ball club in a great little ballpark…
