I ordered a couple of entrees from Ballys through the Skip the Dishes service, and two hours after we ordered our food, it arrived. I ordered the southern fried chicken and it was cold, soggy, definitely not crisp, and tasted like an under-seasoned chicken breast tossed in the oven. The potatoes it came with weren’t pumping in the flavour-department either. I will say the garlic toast was incredible, but the time it took for them to make the food and the fact that it was cold and soggy was deplorable. The only saving grace was the garlic toast. That’s the only reason it got two stars instead of one. NOT impressed at all.

Don’t know what it is with these neighbourhood bars but they’re so laid back, casual and usually better service than those DT snooty ones. Carry all types of beer, from the bottled stuff to Stella, Alexander, and even my hometown, Granville Island. Plus it’s a cheap place to play pool for just $ 1.25 a game, what a steal. Typical sports bar w/tv screens. located in small strip w/Mac’s convenience store.

Where everybody knows your name! This is my Cheers. It’s also kinda my jam because I go here for karaōke. I love Ballys because you can show up with 10 people and your bill will only be $ 100 at the end of the night. Cheap drinks and it is amazing for people watching. There is also a mother and daughter bartender duo who are awesome. But back to the karaōke, their hostess Kat is simply wonderful and an amazing singer. There are the karaōke regulars who show up both nights it is offered throughout the week and It’s such a welcoming crowd for singing. Everyone applauds and cheers and whoops, even if you are simply terrible and should never hold a microphone. You may end up like me and start to get annoyed that you have only sung 4 times and its already 11 o’clock. I still have not eaten here and I think for safety’s sake I may continue this trend. Bally’s has been renovated within the last year, making it pass off as a classier establishment to the untrained eye, but when a bar fight breaks out within 10 minutes of your arrival, you know change is only skin deep. Honey, I’m home!

Bally’s Bar & Grill is a comfortable watering hole on 14th St SW, right in between the trendy neighbourhoods of Marda Loop and 17th Avenue. It’s located in a stripmall next to a liquor store. One stop shopping, as it were. Inside it has a laid back atmosphere with everything you would expect from your neighbourhood bar — sports on TV, VLTs, a pool table, etc. Bally’s is pretty generic, actually. What differentiates Bally’s is the staff. They are exceptionally welcoming, friendly and attentive. They seem to care about their customers.

Bally’s isn’t among my favourite places to go, but it isn’t too shabby. When I’m in there I kind of feel a little grungier than normal, but that could be because of the crowd. Each time I’ve been it seems like a lot of old, somewhat pervy, men inhabiting the place. I definitely don’t feel comfortable waiting here for a few friends by myself. It’s like I’m being eye-balled by everyone in the place. Creepiness aside, the place is pretty big and has a lot of seating inside. It doesn’t feel too cramped inside, which is definitely a bonus. I hate feeling like whenever I need to go to the bathroom I need to squeeze through a crowd. That sucks. Even though the patrons aren’t my group, the staff seems pretty nice. The bartender was very friendly and kind of funny. Our waitress was also friendly and didn’t seem to mind the older crowd. Bally’s isn’t really for me, but that’s because I felt uncomfortable when I was in there. Perhaps if I got to know all the visitors it wouldn’t be so bad…
