The meal here seemed not too bad. Combo plate was huge– sadly the ginger beef was super hard heavily battered and covered in a tasteless sauce. There was a tiny bit of ginger flavour found at the end of the meal underneath and off to the side. The vegetables were excellent. I was ready to overlook the lack of flavour just to get the nice assortment in the chop suey.
I likely would have returned here but went to the washroom before leaving. Omfg. Disgusting.
That wasn’t all though.
The abandoned seafood tank at the back of the restaurant was unbelievable. Green algae and rotting crab parts floating in toxic water. That did it. I’m outta here with disgust and leaving no tip.
I also had tummy troubles for two days following this meal.
Never again!

The dumplings in soup was tasty in the typical MSG broth. I was slightly disappointed the dumplings were not the same as the photo in the menu. The house special chow mein was well made. It was loaded with toppings. Noodles were crispy around the edges and plenty of sauce in the middle.

My favourite burger joint. Low priced but hand –ground meat. Scrumptious. We also love the freshness of their wontons. And we’re picky about wontons!

Great value for the buck. Large portions and everything we ordered was tasty and very satisfying. Highly recommend this place if you want a lot of food for great prices.

Hate that I have to give a star on this review I specifically asked for extra beef in my BEEF and vegetables and it arrived with three tiny peices of beef. I called back to let them know they got the order wrong and the lady was very rude she said I was lying! I will never get food here again go to another place they also gave about half the size of portions other Chinese places give never again it wasn’t even good so greasy EW not worth the 40 $

After the tragedy that sent the original owners into a much needed retirement, we have a niece and nephew that took over. As far as I’m concerned, very hard shoes to fill! Since the change in management these two youngsters have got a kick ass set up that needs a major restaurant make over. (décor only) I have pretty much tried all of the menu and other than things I could careless for, the rest is absolutely delicious! I always get the dinner for two with an order of spicy fried cod, makes me hungry just typing it! You need to try this place as its one of those gems you drive by everyday! Wake up people to good Chinese food on Hastings!

I ordered the combo#1 for 1 person that included sweet and sour pork, noodles, and vegetables. To begin with the vegetables were cold and mushy (blech!). The chicken was poorly prepared, fatty, mushy and cold. I also ordered veg spring rolls which were cold from the inside.
This has to be the WORST Chinese food I’ve ever had. I felt ill after eating the food and although I had a copious amount of food, I discarded of it promptly. Do yourself a favour: do not ever order food from this restaurant.

The food I tried was pretty good. But I went there alone and probably my food was not expensive I wasn’t taken care of very well. Never came to ask me anything about the food and my needs. When I finished I had to wait for over 20 minutes until I had to go to the front desk without getting my bill in advance. Will not go there again.

We ordered pick-​up on Christmas Day and they decided to deliver because they had time but they didn’t tell me. It was a mix-​up but at least the vegetables were fresh. We ordered delivery tonight and the food never came. Two hours and multiple unanswered phone calls later, I drove over to find out that the restaurant was closed for the day. Frustrating? Yes. Some notice for on-​line customers would have been nice.

Needs a good clean but tasty food been going for 3o years love it great food some time they over cool food but still tasty miss the old owner nice guy new one not as nice husband is nicer but he stays in the back most of the time been over 200 times
(new owners again seems like they are going more into Chinese food redid the food and menu smaller size dishes but better food great ever time before (with the last owner the food was only good 1 out of 5 times and she didn’t seem to be happy to be there at all new owners seem like they want you there and helpful

Me and my family have been going here for years now. Its one of the best places in town.
For the Western menu, I highly recommend the fish & chips. For around $ 7 to $ 8 you get 4 pieces of fried fish with lots of big, fat fries (theyre not so much fries as they are merely blunt cuts of potato but what the heck). Even though theyve gotten skimpy on the portion of the fish, Id still recommend it. I cant think of ANY place that has cheaper fish & chips. I want to point out that they now use Chinese seasoned fish for the fish & chips. Subtle though, but you probably would not notice unless you were Chinese, it tastes good if not better nonetheless.
My family and I have tried the burgers a couple of times in the beginning, again, good size, value etc. but we mostly stick to the fish & chips since it IS such a rad deal and we can split between the 3 of us.
Under the new management, Pauls is better than ever now. Whereas before, the Chinese food was more homestyle (and not always fresh) it is now more authentic and flavourful and simply better. As far as we have tried, the sweet and sour pork is not crunchy and brown like it used to be, the fried rice is not burnt and is bright and colourful, and the shanghai noodles and chop suey are the classic tastes you find at all Chinese restaurants.
Overall, for taste and good value, the homely atmosphere, I give 4 out of 5 stars to Pauls.

The ginger beef was very good though. But not worth going back. Wasted my money

Came here to try out the restaurant, now that it’s under new management. To the original owners, I am very sorry for your loss.
The interior seems to have been renovated since the last time I was here, for the better.
Burgers here are quite reasonable, at some $ 6. It really is diner-​style comfort food. Sure the food isn’t the most glamourous, but the Deluxe Burger I had had a nice portion of sauteed mushrooms. The fries are all irregular and stuff — looks like they cut them in the back.
Because the place is quite empty, you can probably throw a decent-​sized burger party in here.

Solid 3.5 stars.
typical hole in the wall, cramped, but lemon chicken’s good: don’t laugh, I get into one of these moods simply my parents didn’t ever make this at home lol.
Nice that they open early in mornings too at 9am.

Am i coming back for more? You damn right i am. I believe this place is under new ownership but it was my first time there. I had a lunch special fried fish with cream of corn on rice. The special also came with a drink. The portion was huge for lunch, wasn’t too salt, crunchy fish, and the drink was good!

Ok so my dad has been here before with his co-​worker, so he decided to take me since we both love Chinese! My dad isn’t much of a restaurant person, so I was a bit scared with his choice, but I must say the food was good. We both had ordered Shanghai noodles with Chicken, the plate and portion was huge! My only complaint was that the Chicken seemed dry and old, basically took forever to chew, so we only ended up eating our noodles. The reason why I rated it 3 stars was because of the cleanliness of the restaurant. IT WAS FILTHY!!! The chairs had so much dust on them that if you wiped it down with a white cloth it would turn black. The place also had dirty glasses where they served us our water, I was not impressed. Unfortunately I realized this after I began to eat and drink… To be honest I’d probably do take out from here, but I would never go back and have a meal inside.
But even then take out worries me aswell.

OmNom! We always over order food from here because it’s just so delicious. I must say it isn’t the cleanest place but who cares when the food is that good. It’s like a greasy spoon.

you know went in here for the burger. and it was good! this place is a diner — no frills but decent eats.

For a good cheap burger and fries, you can’t really beat Paul’s. For $ 5 you can get their deluxe burger with fries. And let me tell you about their fries! You have to try their French fries! They are the best in the city! Yes, better than McDonald’s, White Spot or any other place. You have to try their Fries! The décor is dated, but again, I would rather eat good food than get overcharged to sit somewhere nice and eat untasty food.
