Still searching for good Mexican food in BC. This was pretty tasty. Easy parking right around the corner from the place. I’ve only tried the camarones de la diabla and they were spicy and tasty. A bit oily, served with a large portion of rice, shredded romaine lettuce, a bit of pico de gallo, and three corn tortillas that have been quickly pan fried in oil. These are not homemade tortillas, but the kind you buy at the store. Grilling them softened them up a bit and improved the flavour. I was totally stoked to see that Jarritos bottled sodas were on the menu. I’m a fan of the Fresa flavour; strawberry to most NorteAmericanos. It was cold and delicious, a perfect pairing for the spicy shrimps. The place was clean and functional; a baby cried in the background and I’m not sure if that was better than the sound of a commercial on the television, but once we sat down and our chips arrived(with a mild salsa needing a bit of salt) the lovely waitress put on some authentic sounding Mexican pop music which added to the ambiance. I’ll be back the next time I’m in the area. I’m ready to try the guacamole, tortilla soup and enchiladas.

Well, a friend and I came for lunch. The server was friendly but inexperienced, which is fine, but we were pretty much the only table there and we had to ask for pretty much everything. Points for fresh tortillas but the salsa was meh. Nachos were meh. The ingredient distribution was pretty uneven. Had to ask for chilli sauce. Really?! And it wasn’t even spicy. I had the«chilli chicken» tostadas which were a mess and not the most flavourful of dishes. Friend had the huevo ranchero and seemed satisfied. The restaurant itself was nicely decorated but maybe if they put more effort in welcoming customers, have music instead of the tv going, looking occupied instead of slightly bored… Other restaurants have less curb appeal but that can be forgiven because the food is stunning. Not the case here. I’d try it again sometime, but this place needs to up their game.

The food is quite good but the service isn’t that great. Have been here a few times and enjoy the food. The pork should be the meat of choice as it better then the other types.

I came here for the first time a few weeks ago for lunch. Food 4⁄5: I had the chicken burrito($ 10), which was HUGE and tasty. It’s comparable in price to going to Chronic Tacos, which is a plastic fast food joint. Value 4⁄5: Pretty good value on the burrito. I could tell my friends were slightly envious of my meal. A few of them had ordered enchiladas and I could tell they weren’t impressed with the size of their meals. Stick with the burrito if you want value! I’m a bit surprised they don’t serve complementary tortilla chips though, as most Mexican restaurants do. Service 3⁄5: Okay. Atmosphere 2⁄5: This restaurant is ALWAYS quiet when I pass by during lunch. I’m not sure why, since it’s right in the heart of the Heights. There was just one other table when we were there. Cigarette smoke was wafting into the restaurant, though I wasn’t sure where it was coming from. The ought to do away with the sticky plastic table clothes. Ordinarily, I would give food and then value the most weight in my overall evaluation of a restaurant, but there is something about the atmosphere of this restaurant that just doesn’t work for me. For this reason, I can’t give Los Compadres anything over a 2⁄5.

It is difficult to find good Mexican food here. This is the best I’ve had in a Vancouver restaurant, ever. I look forward to returning and trying more of their menu. I had the chicken burrito. GIGANTIC. Not the kind of burrito you pick up and eat with your hands. Unless you like bathing in burrito. Tasty and moist and full of delicious meat, beans, rice, lettuce and tomato, and topped with their lovely sauces and some cheese. Pic: Daughter went for the simpler option of bean, rice and cheese in her burrito. Both very delicious. I’m a fan!

They now have a liquor licence! My cousin and I had driven by here many times. and past it while heading to Antons. Should have tried this place earlier but a groupon led us here. We arrived at opening for lunch and were greated by a very polite, smiling fellow named Nick who enlighteded me about there restaurant. He had purchased the equipment and furnishings from a previous Mexican fare restaurant at this location. He was so proud and hospitable about his new place, We really hope it will be a success. Bright cheery Mexican atmosphere, with the Mexican blankets adorning the place and soft music. Actually reminded me of a restaurant we tried in Puerto Vallarta a few years back. and loved. The Burrito Cynthia ordered was huge, and she said it was awesome. I had the tortillas with Chorizo and Cheese… was delicious. basic, and tasty. Oscar was the waiter who brought our food, pleasant young man also. now that they serve liquor, Corona and Nachos will have me here during Hot summer nights. on occasion. Apparently they have authentic live music also, not sure which nights. Menu is reasonably priced. we will definetly be back. Johnathan and Cynthia

Mexican ambience at an acceptable level, quality(seemingly authentic) Mexican food, prompt and friendly service. My dining partner and I shared the nachos with chicken. The chips were drowning in toppings, but when is that a bad thing? I had the Enchilada Platter with mole, I really enjoyed it. Good rice, refried beans, and a salad on the side can’t be wrong. Dining partner had the ginormous quesadillas that accompanied the Quesadilla platter, he seemed very satisfied with his choice. His platter also came with the same sides. Our waiter(and I will assume owner) told us they just got their liquor license and will be starting music nights on Fridays in February! Sounds like I will be returning. On a side note they also sell Mexican pop and other authentic cooking ingredients!

I know the menu said they have a generous portion of cheese on their tacos… believe them. That cheese blob is no joke. The tortillas were pretty soggy and tasteless, the tacos were a greasy mess. The salsa was ok, it was a fresh mix which is nice every once in a while. No style to it really, it could have just been store bought for all I know. The guy was pretty nice, he had a really animated conversation with someone who came in, which I liked. I know this is a simple 5 menu item mexican place, and I shouldn’t be so harsh, but I’ve had much better Mexican from a food cart. I just think that if you have a store front, it should be better than this.

this place is A-OK, which is what the 3 Stars means on Unilocal(I’d prefer if I could add another half star…) Our portions were very good, and the flavours were tasty: the mole has a bit of heat and the serranno dip was TOASTY! Their take on queso fundido was hearty– adding chorizo makes it nearly a meal. Tortilla chips were very tasty & tasted fresh. We had lots to take home with us, as we had«hungry eyes». There’s lots of meal choices in this neighbourhood and it’s refreshing to have decent Mexican fare for a change. The manager was very nice and the food came up fast. They’re apparently adding a few seafood items to the menu shortly & I look forward to returning for them. The restaurant is clean, and very basic. There’s also a great assortment of Mexican grocery items, take something home with you! I’ll hold out on another star til I taste their guacamole :)

This place is pretty damn good. The Tacos are open faced which can be disappointing(look at the pictures on the walls before ordering!), but they are still tasty. But much better are the quesadillas. The cheese is flavourful and the meat is juicy and tasty. One time I had the enchiladas and the shell was kinda soggy and not too fresh tasting. I think it was previously frozen, so watch out for those. Their drinks are really tasty too and hard not to finish them while your waiting for your food. Horchada is my fave! The beans are tasty and so are all the sauces! Prices are pretty fair, but I wouldnt say its an amazing deal or anything. Food is very filling and of good quality!

We’ve heard great raves about this place and went there to try it out ourselves. It’s kind of a takeout/eat-in joint. So, you pick your drink, order by the cashier or when they come by your table and you order. As always, I’m there for the food, not for the darn services so I don’t really have much expectation for service, but the waiters were super nice and helpful. We ordered a chicken nacho and a chicken fajita and LOVED it. It was in such large portions that we had to pack it home. From all my years of eating nachos in various bars, pubs, restaurants, this nacho is the most inexpensive and have the most chicken w/o costing you more. Best guacamole by the way. Not too much of a fan of their salsa, but they have these other two dips that are very awesome. I love this joint and will go back there again.

Hmmm… I came here on a weeknight and I had some hope because there was another couple here dining. They had chicken enchiladas on special and I should have known better. Generally when something is on special, the restaurant is trying to get rid of it. I thought about that, but though. how can you get rid of an enchilada? You have to assemble it then bake it… Wrong. It was premade and microwaved! :(Beans were canned. The guy running the place seemed pretty nice. The tacos are probably better. The flavour of the enchiladas itself was good. but would have been better if it were fresh. It was like eating left over Mexican food. Maybe the other, «non-special» stuff is better. Urbanspoon has good reviews of this place.
