I attended this convention center for a wedding. It is a huge venue with high ceilings. The décor was very beautiful. The food and staff is provided by the convention center. The food was very plain. Apparently there was tandoori chicken. It was so plain and dry and tasteless that I thought it was dry salmon. The staff was on top of their job but there was like a lot of black youths as waiters. I didn’t see any of them smile. Not appropriate for a celebration. I personally wouldn’t pick this venue on account of the food and wait staff. But they get three stars for the setting.

The Ajax Convention Centre is located right near the Hilton Garden Inn(visible from the highway) in Ajax just off Salem Road. I’d never been here before and was invited to a work Christmas party. This venue is actually surprisingly nice — I had no expectations walking in and it has a very nice large clean main hallway. There was another party going on in another ballroom but you wouldn’t have known it. No excessive noise or piles of people milling about. There was an area just outside the ballroom where people could mingle with cocktails but it was far too small for a party of about 100. The bar here was also far too small and the venue only had one bartender on at the beginning of the night, when there should have been two. The main space was quite nice — very high ceilings, nice table linens/decorations. I felt that the window décor was a bit dated(and would be difficult to match if you had a color scheme, like for your wedding) but all in a very nice venue. We had a salad to start, which was quite good, followed by chicken and beef with potatoes. The beef was nicely done(although some people didn’t like it medium) and my boyfriend ate both our portions, and the chicken was good as well. Nice selection of veggies on the side. All in, a nice main course with some variety. The dessert was quite good, some kind of mousse but it was very tasty, although almost no one ate it as dessert was served too long after dinner. Most people had gotten up to mill around and the music had come on. Overall, I think that this is a very nice event/wedding venue. It’s oddly located but with the hotel just across the way, it would be a good place for an event where drinking is encouraged. Very modern, not too dated and most likely affordable. The service was fairly good, but I did have to ask one of the servers to tell the staff that the bathrooms needed to be cleaned because the women’s room was in very bad shape.

Attended a friend’s wedding at the Ajax Convention Centre this past weekend. Cocktail hour started at 5:30pm and was filled with a variety of h’or deuvres: chicken skewers, veggies, wontons, spring rolls, smoked salmon. There was more than enough for the crowd. Servers with trays full of wine, beer, caesars, and punch were plentiful. Our 3-course menu consisted of butternut squash soup, steak with vegetables and potatoes, and crème brûlée. Soup was flavourful and hearty, beef cooked perfectly to a medium rare, but I think the crème brûlée could have been warmer. Timing of the courses arrived appropriately between speeches and a slideshow. There were about 5 – 6 servers for 16 tables. Open bar serviced(provided by the Bride & Groom) was great. There was only one bartender but she was quick. Although, at times we felt the liquors had been watered down. I know how much effort goes into wedding planning and selecting the appropriate venue. The Ajax Convention Centre is a popular place for events in Durham region and met all of our expectations.
