After all the great reviews, was looking forward to eating here, as a vegetarian chef, but beside the organic salad and mango lemongrass juice(which were quite good and made on the spot) the other food we ordered was Premade and microwaved! !!! Not a sign of freshness and all too filled with ricotta cheese, m overpowering the flavors of the quiche and lasagna. Will only go back to see how their vegan feijoada fares… as a vegetarian/vegan chef was quite disappointed.

I hate when I take non-vegan friends to a vegan restaurant and they enjoy it more than I do. It was my fault, I’ve never had gnocchi in my life before and they make a vegan version of it here! Too bad it tastes like crap. Blechhh. The mushroom sauce was worthy, but the gnocchi itself was mushy and made me think I was eating half digested food. The amount of parsley on top also made me feel like I was eating grass. *Insert joke about how veg*ns eat nothing but grass* So why 4 stars? Because everything else on the table was so good! It actually took every fiber of my being to try and enjoy my dish while we tasted each others. Stir fried noodles? Amazing. Italian sandwich? Unexpectedly savory and full of flavor. I had to feign ‘fullness’ and stop eating. I was actually still pretty hungry but the gnocchi was that bad. :( We all had dessert and those were just super decadent and yummy! The caipirinhas and beer were all cold, refreshing, and perfect on a warm day. So yeah, I just chose the bad apple on the menu. Better luck next time. Oh! One more thing, the chef here? Can we say absolute Brazilian Eye Candy? Yummy, I wish I could trade my dish in for him. And I think he saw us(my and my 2 girlfriends) catching glances roughly every 2.5 seconds. A good looking man that can cook? Wonder who the lucky lady is! ;D

My fiancé and I came to Bio Carioca the first time because he didn’t know it was a vegetarian place. He was a little intimidated at first but we stayed. The menu is completely in Portuguese. He’s Brazilian but there were words that even he didn’t understand. I got the yakasoba de legumes. It was delicious. My fiancé got the executive plate of the day both days. They were good but I was too involved with my plates. The second day, I got the Bifum com legumes ao alho. Basically it was skinny noodles with veggies and garlic. The other plate was more flavorful but if you doctor it up with the shoyu at the table, it’s pretty yummy too. Unfortunately, today is my last day or I would be back. Oh, and they have free WiFi!

Comida natural, saborosa, variada e a preço justo.

Great find for vegetarians in Rio. Loved it. Great location near the Copacabana beach. They speak little English, but we managed without any issues. Its a small café like restaurant which has all vegetarian food. We found it through Unilocal– Unilocal always comes through. We ordered the veggie spring rolls and veggie yakisoba noodles. Both lovely hearty dishes. Fresh flavorful vegetarian food — whats not to love!

So, many traditional Brazilian dishes and items feature meat. As a pescatarian, I can of course have fish(which I love), but I was a little nervous about how many things I’d actually be able to eat and enjoy during my time here. Well, come to find out, Brazil actually has a little vegetarian and vegan movement going on. Surprised? I was too, but glad that I found one veggie spot in Copacabana, Bio Carioca. There’s a really low key vibe here, pretty much a no-frills environment. Yet, you can find an abundant amount of options, even featuring gluten free and vegan options. I was there for breakfast(which, isn’t really a prime meal there, so, it’s nice to find places serving it), so started out with a Café(an espresso shot, if you want more of a traditional«coffee», order an americano). Then, since I’m an egg fanatic, and even though it didn’t seem like the most«exciting» thing on the menu, I ordered Omelete com pimenta biquinho e alho poro(leek and local bell pepper). You also get a choice of cheese in any of your omelets, mozzarella or ricotta. I chose ricotta, but, they messed that up and gave me mozzarella, whatever. The omelete was good, but what I especially loved was the local bell pepper, different from any domestic pepper I’ve had. These tiny little guys packed a lot of flavor, and a little bit of heat too.

I’ve been looking for vegetarian food in Brazil! Needless to say it’s been very challenging. I was truly excited to try out the food here… Some dishes were great, and others not so much. The cream cheese and red pepper jelly was very good; the watermelon juice was great as well with no added sugar. The risotto tasted okay but unusually dry and made with brown rice makes it a bit chewy. The meal came with a green salad and a yellow salad dressing containing cumin and a strong taste of raw turmeric. Overall nice place to eat, seems very popular but food could be better. Still, I’m happy to eat at a vegetarian restaurant.

This restaurant kept me fed while in Rio. Which a long list of food allergies, I was very concerned travelling to Rio. However, Bio Carioca was extremely accommodating and affordable. I ate there everyday and enjoyed everything I ordered. I am so grateful this restaurant exists! :) I miss the delicious food already!
