This was a good spot. It is in the heart of the grand place in Brussels. The grand place is beautiful and the outdoor seating is a must. The food was decent. I’ve had better in Belgium, but this is right there at the top of the«second tier.» I got the cheese croquettes which were very good and a french onion soup which was decent. The beef stew with fries was great! I would for sure check them out.

Solidly fine food that is a bit overpriced as the restaurant is situated on the Market square of the grand place. I had the beef stew which was pretty decent. The staff were nice enough and they did honor the free beer for checking in.

Great little spot, right in a tourist area, but sat down quickly and enjoyed very good food with wonderful service. Had the mussels in white wine, very good, coworker had mussels in garlic, loved that. The frites were wonderful, and overall a very pleasant meal in a very charming setting. Highly recommended if you’re looking for a nice place to eat and are looking to spend some time with friend over good food.

First off they have no idea what the Unilocal check in offer is. One star deducted. I had the Flemish Beef in onion stew with Stoemp. It was very good think American Beef Stew to be honest. I also ordered the fries as additional side. The fries are nothing special I guess I’m used to Belgium fries from NY. I order the waffle with sugar. That’s was just ok really bland and they used confectionery sugar. I was thinking it would have caramelized sugar crystals.

Conveniently located in the Grand Place, locals and tourists gather for a meal in this little cozy vaulted cellar restaurant. The waiters speak some English and are happy to provide recommendations when you can’t decide. The mussels were a bit underwhelming at first but it got better with each bite. By the time you reach the soupy broth, the flavors come together and warms you up.

Group of 5 of us ate here, on the recommendation of our tour guide. We were seated very quickly,(it was around 5:30pm) and I loved the ambiance plus the space — it’s an open kitchen and the red bricks ooze the patina of antiquity. Plus great selection of beers :) Two of us got the eel in green sauce, and the other choices among the diners were: salmon in tarragon sauce, mussels au gratin, and a stoemp. So, the eel in green sauce was… interesting? I love eels but the earthiness of the sauce wasn’t really to my taste so while glad have tried out a local delicacy, it’s something I am unlikely to order again. However props to the chef as I got tons of eel pieces :) I tasted the mussels au gratin too and wished we had just ordered the mussels in white wine, because the cheese sauce overwhelmed the mussels and they actually tasted quite bitter. The stoemp was mixed — lovely potato mash and bacon, but the sausage was too gamey and not to my taste. So overall wasn’t that great, but I think it’s because the food choices we made were not to our taste. Unsure if will be back.

Like a preview review stated, our served refused to honor the Unilocal check-in offer. He read it on my phone and simply shook his head and said«No». I just sat there, and he motioned to the phone again. He said no again. I just sat there again(good negotiator) and he finally called an owner/manager over who spoke to him in french and they finally gave me a free small beer. We ordered the mussels w garlic, mais beer and the grimbergen beer. Mussels were delish, and the grimbergen was better than the mais. Had the rabbit stew in beer and the stoemp w sausage for dinner. Both were good, although I’ve rabbit back home that was seasoned a little better. Good service, great ambiance. Love the cellar feel and open kitchen. Plus the location is super convenient.

If you are going to eat on the Grand Place, I would say, «Eat here.» This is a charming cellar restaurant that is small and beautiful. They have a menu of classic belgian fare(rabbit, beef stew, mussels, horse steak). The mussels in white wine with cream were the favorite of the waiter, so I went with those. They were excellent, perfectly cooked. I was talked in to the crème brûlée, which was fine, but not necessary. Nice house white wine. Lovely spot, kindly service. Many of the reviews say this place is crowded, which I can imagine — it is quite small and right in tourist central. However, locals eat late, so if you go earlier in the evening(say, 6pm), you are likely to be seated, even on a weekend.

This Little Cellar in the heart of Grand Place with close proximity to the Hotels retains a romantic-basement vibe, a bit of charming coziness and not overly much of Dungeons and Dragons styling. The capacity is limited inside due to small square-footage, so please be kind to your neighbours. At the same time, as much as it may be a spot located at the tourist site they do not rush customers out the door. Many tend to linger consuming their beverages long after their empty plates are cleared away. Upon being seated, a bottle of WINE is placed at your table and if I were to tell you it’s FREE and to drink happily I’m sure hate-mail will follow shortly. Leave the wine alone, unless they happen to place the bouquet you enjoy. Surprise, surprise, Menus provided to us in English, merci. The reason to choose such a tourist-based dining spot for dinner was not only based on proximity to the Hotel and our route thereafter but also on their words of Simplicity and Regional Specialities. Scampi Maison(14.90 €)-=Scampis«our special»(Tomatoes & Cream)=- — Not to be offensive, Maison sauce was very Campbells Tomato Soup. Along with perfectly cooked BIG Shrimps, we cleared every last drop. Yes, True I do like my Campbells but this was creamier delicious. Anguilles au Vert(19.5 €) -=Eel in Herb sauce=- — Flemish regional dish with meaty deboned Eel and delicate Herb sauce. Sauce thick just enough not to be a watery soup went well with the Fish. Touch of Lemon on the Eel and it’s a simple traditional home-style course. Lapin à la Gueuze(23.3 €) -=Stewed Rabbit in Gueuze Beer=- — I didn’t realize Bugs Bunny liked to indulge in Gueuze Beer as I do. A thick tangy savoury Gueuze based sauce envelops the boney Rabbit. It was a hearty portion almost stew-like, with a small portion overdone. Blanche de Bruges, my choice to complement the Anguilles au Vert. I have to say it was as pleasant a meal as I have had in consideration of the surroundings{tourist}. We do notice new customers popping in to see if free tables on occasion but other than that there was no queues aside from when we arrived closer to 9:00 pm. o Traditional Belgium Cuisine. DONE!

This was a perfect night in Brussels! Temperature was perfect and the terrace of ‘T Kelderke was very inviting. Located right on the«Gran Place» this is a perfect place to enjoy the night. I am not a beer fan but in Belgium this is a bit unavoidable! I had a Brown Chimay that was excellent. Followed it with a «stoemp» typical plate with mashed vegetable. Mine was topped with sausage. It was my first time trying that and it was quite excellent. Finished it with typical«Brussels Waffle» with cream and and an espresso. Service was good and the speed was fine(it’s not a fast food restaurant so don’t expect instantaneous service like some UK tourist sitting near-by). I think that 1:15 for a full meal with dessert and beer is quite reasonable. Definitively a good way to enjoy Brussels!

So keeping in mind this place is on the Gran Plaz this place isn’t too bad. They have many typical Belgian dishes, but after a few trips here I would just stick to the Waterzooi(both the chicken and the Fish) A lady sitting next to has had the Stoemp and said it had zero flavor. I’ve gotten the fish waterzooi twice and the mussels and fish pieces have always been good sized. As a general rule of thumb, I avoid the mussels and frites in this part of town. They are overpriced and under quality. I also wouldn’t expect any type of customer service that most Americans are used to because they just don’t do that here in Belgium. If you adjust your standards with the knowledge you aren’t going to get waited on hand and foot this place actually has decent service.

Typically when I travel to new places, I rely heavily on recommendations from friends or co-workers. Lacking those this trip, I borrowed a colleague’s Lonely Planet. Lo and behold, ‘t Kelderke was both near my hotel and recommended by the book for their ‘moules et frites’. I’m going to preface this review by saying that I don’t claim being an expert on mussels, though I’m a big fan and have had my fair share of mussels in my lifetime. That being said, my experience here was a disappointing one for several reasons. I ordered the mussels in white wine & cream, which was served half-heartedly with a side of fries. The mussels came in a big pot, but I soon found out that looks can be deceiving: a good number of the mussels I had were closed shut, or barely open enough for my knife to fit between the shells. The first few mussels I was able to eat were just okay, but nothing spectacular. Then, I began to get some mussels that were a bit on the gritty side, like sand. I also had a couple of bites, where it felt more like pieces of shell that I was biting into. I became very cautious about chewing, which took away from enjoying my meal. I’m not sure if this is normal, but it’s certainly not something I remember experiencing eating mussels elsewhere. I also wasn’t impressed by the fries which, along with the mussels, Brussels is supposedly known for. I also found the service could use improvement: it took quite a while to be seated, considering that they only had 2 other tables seated when I walked in. My waitress wasn’t especially welcoming, or attentive, and it took even longer to flag someone down afterward for the bill. The restaurant’s proximity to La Grande Place explains the pricing, though I feel it wasn’t worth what I paid. Both the meal, and the service were disappointing; I would neither return, nor recommend this restaurant.

This restaurant has a central location right on the Grand Place, so you’d expect it to be a touristy place serving up overpriced and crappy food. While I wouldn’t call the food cheap by any means, I’d say that the food here is a lot better than you’d expect to find at a tourist trap. I came here at about 10 pm on a Friday night in August, so while the Grand Place was full of tourists and the restaurant itself was still quite busy, there was no wait for a table in the outdoor seating area. Sitting right along the edge of the Grand Place, I was able to watch the light show that goes off periodically where the buildings along the square are cast in a dizzying array of colored lighting while I waited for my food. My order of the Moules Frites(Provencal style) was pretty tasty. The mussels were, for the most part, plump and juicy, and the Provencal-style sauce added a nice freshness to the dish. The fries were pretty good, too, as they were crisp and still hot from the fryer. While my standards for moules frites are admittedly pretty low, I’d say that ‘T Kelderke served up a good enough rendition of the dish to merit a revisit if I were to find myself in Brussels again in the future. Hearty portions of decent quality food served at reasonable(for a tourist hub) prices in a central location make this restaurant a place to consider visiting if you should ever find yourself near the Grand Place.

This was one of the first places my husband and I went when we arrived in Brussels. After spinning around aimlessly for about an hour trying to find our hotel, the sun started to set, it got chilly and we wanted some food. We were right by ‘T Kelderke, and we had heard good things about it, so we walked in. They had a great deal going when we went — a big bucket of mussels, frites and a beer for a fixed rate. Everything was really delicious — best mussels I’ve ever had(to this day), crisp, greasy frites, hearty bread and good beer. I would come back here in a second. It’s an amazing meal on a cold night.
