Dieses Restaurant führt Hai auf der Karte. Mittlerweile ist so gut wie jede Haiart vom Aussterben bedroht oder stark gefährdet. Ein NoGo soetwas in einem Lokal anzubieten.

This is a very typical greec restaurant in thevcity cebtre of Vienna. You cannot have any doubt about the owner’s origine when you see the blue frontage, looking like Cyclades islands. It is as obvious wheb you disover decorations inside the restaurant. It is full of pictures, press clippings, artefacts, … belonging to the greek culture. The owner is welcoming you very warmly, and will do his very best to let you enjoy your stay at El Greco. Food is genuine greek one with every thing homemade. We hade a selection of starters (delicious taziski, tarama, houmos, …), a wonderfull grilled calamari, and a mix of grilled meats (souvlaki) with a greek salad. It is a simple cooking but a very tasty and sane one. And prices aee really affordable for such a place; we ate for a total of 35 euros

This comfy and familial Greek restaurant is a real bless for all of those who enjoy the healthy and tasteful Mediterranean cuisine!
Close to the Museumsquartier but away from the busy Viennese life, it will offer you a short journey to Greece and its culinary specialties.
The menu includes a large amount of fish, grilled meat and even some vegetarian dishes, based on tsatziki, aubergines, goat cheese,… I really felt like flying back to the land of Appollo!
Don’t go pass this discrete local without trying it. True, it isn’t ostentatious (and the bathroom would need to be renovated!), but the authentic food and the friendly staff are definitely worth the while!
And if you don’t have time to stop, you can also have their delicious meals to go :)

Wir erkunden gerade unsere neue Nachbarschaft Mariahilf und sind gestern Abend hier gelandet. Das gemütliche Ambiente dieses offensichtlich familiengeführten kleinen Restaurants ist sehr ansprechend. An den Wänden sind die Hochzeiten des Restaurants und des (ehemaligen?) Besitzers durch unzähliche Zeitungsartikel und Fotos dokumentiert. Das Essen war ansprechend präsentiert, die Portionsgröße ausreichend und die Preise moderat. Leider war das Gyros aus Hendlfleisch und dementsprechend etwas knorpelig und leider ganz und gar nicht original. Der gegrillte Oktopus und das Bifteki konnten jedoch überzeugen. Hier gehen wir wieder hin! Beim nächsten Besuch möchte ich unbedingt das Moussaka probieren. PS: Der Hai sollte wirklich auf keine Speisekarte mehr gehören, und ist mir auch negativ aufgefallen.

El Greco ist ein ganz bezaubernder Grieche oberhalb der Fillgraderstiege.
Seine beste Zeit scheint er in den 1980er Jahren gehabt zu haben, zumindestens lassen das die vergilbten Zeitungsausschnitte erahnen die im Lokal stolz an der Wand hängen. Darauf zu sehen sind mir unbekannte Promis die damals im El Greco seitenblickemässig gefeiert haben.
Das ist deshalb wichtig zu erwähnen, da das gesamte Umland des Griechen heutzutage zu Downtown-​Boboville zählt. Das Gastronomieangebot in der Gegend ist daher als urban-​chic zu bezeichnen, was einem auf Dauer auch langweilig/​zu anstrengend werden kann.
Jedenfalls ist El Greco offensichtlich familiär geführt, schon wenn man hereinkommt sieht man eine gemütliche Ecke wo es sich friends & familiy wohnlich eingerichtet haben. Die Gaststube selber ist auch sehr klein & kuschelig, das Service sehr herzlich.
Am Essen selber gibts auch keine Kritik, man wird satt und die Preise sind angemessen.
