Joseph Brot vom Pheinsten

Ich komme eigentlich nur immer wieder um meine geliebte Cremeschnitte zu kaufen und weil ich gute Erfahrungen mit der Patisserie gemacht habe. Das Angebot wechselt sich auch Saisonal ab und es ist immer wieder spannend, welche Kreationen man kaufen und genießen kann (für einen gehobenen Preis).
Bin auch sehr von der Sachertorte begeistert, luftig und saftig im Gegensatz zu der trockenen Schokoladentorte im Sacher Café.
Das Bistro selber ist mir leider zu laut, die Tische sind zu nah aneinander, Service etwas langsam und die Preise etwas zu hoch. Die Bewertung bezieht sich auf meinen Gesamteindruck von dieser Location mit einem Bonusstern für die Patisserie, sonst wären es eher nur 3 Sterne.

Das Joseph Brot ist einfach so sehr toll, vor allem die dort erhältlichen Brote übertreffen alles andere bisher gekostete -. das sollte man sich einfach vergönnen und mal testen, der Rest des Gebäckes überzegt mich nicht so, aber das Brot und auch das Essen gehen dort ist sehr sehr lecker! Der gefüllte Lachs Bagel ist einer meiner Favoriten und das sollte man sich gönnen ab und an auch wenn die Preise doch etwas teuer sind.

Das Brot ist sehr gut (sollte es auch sein zu den Preisen) aber mit schriftlichen Reklamationen kann man nicht umgehen. Wir waren mit der Qualität eines Müslis nicht zufrieden und haben 2x schriftlich reklamiert. 2x kam genau keine Antwort. Hier geht die Schere zwischen Anspruch, Preis und Wirklichkeit auseinander. Auch andere Bäcker haben gutes Brot.

Excellent little bakery right in the middle of Vienna’s 1^st district.
I am a big fan of their pastries, which are top notch. I would especially recommend Mohn and Nusskipferl (pastry stuffed with poppy seeds or walnut) are sweet, soft and melt in your mouth. Overall, likely the best pastries in the city and beyond.
As far as their bread is concerned, if you like rye breads, it is top quality. I prefer the buns over their breads — rolls, crescents, etc.
The only breads that I wouldn’t recommend are the ones with non-​Austrian names — particularly baguettes and ciabattas. I am on a mission to find a half-​way decent baguette in Vienna and I still am unsuccessful. Joseph Brot is no exception, baguettes and ciabattas are that in name only and same goes for croissants. The point is — stick to what Austrians do well — Austrian pastries, rolls and rye breads.

The quality of the breads and all baked goods is excellent, as is the coffee. The problem: terrible understaffing leading to long waits and hopelessly overtaxed servers.
Waiting over half an hour for your morning coffee greatly detracts from the breakfast experience. Accompanying jams are superb, less satisfying the heap of raw vegetables served with one breakfast choice.
The bright and very loud space looks inviting, actual comfort is less so. A huge plus: all the fine breads and pastries can be purchased at the long bakery counter.

WOW. This was one of the best meals I’ve had in a long, long time. The space is gorgeous, the staff is very competent and friendly, and best of all, the food is terrific.
We only tried their breakfast, but the prepared goods looked delicious as well. They don’t have English menus, but much of the staff speaks English so there are no problems there.
I had the Landstrasser and the boyfriend had the Prince Harry’s Favorite.
Landstrasser: this came with a variety of things:

rye «soldiers» to dip in the egg
cottage cheese with the most delicious olive oil and pesto
carrot/​radish/​cucumbers to dip in the cottage cheese

A mini pastrami sandwich on a kaiser roll
steak tartare
a savory french toast with green beans
marinated tomatoes
EVERYTHING WAS GREAT. My favorite was the apricot jam spread on anything, but truly all the ingredients were spectacular and prepared with great care. The boyfriend kept raving about the pastrami for hours after our meal. And it was incredible. I’ve never tasted anything quite like it in a really good way. The meat was nicely spiced and had a very smoky taste.
We’re only in Vienna for a few days, but I think we’ll stop for another visit!
EDIT: We definitely did stop in for another visit and it was equally delicious as the first. I tried a green smoothie this time, which was fantastic. Also, the croque madame sandwich. The croissant was perfection and it was really filling, but not overly heavy. A perfect meal in Vienna!

I think of this place just to get a the faint ghost of a taste of the multigrain bread in their glorious spinach and egg toast.
Full disclosure — I usually don’t even order spinach toast. I’m an unhealthy carnivorous breakfast kind of person. But we still went to this organic café twice in our three day trip to Vienna.
Wallet to Taste Ratio: Breakfast dishes range from 6,70 to ~15,00 EUR. And every one of them are so worth it.
Ambiance: Bright and minimalist. Everything in the café is white and clean — the windows open to sidewalk seating in good weather. Be sure to make a round into the café/​store. Everything looks sumptuous!
Food: Organic, simple, masterful. For my first breakfast, I ordered the second classic Viennese breakfast on the menu consisting of bread (3 rolls and 3 slices), honey and marmalade to dip, vegetable sticks, and pesto (?) cottage cheese. I don’t normally even like cottage cheese but still found this combination to be highly enjoyable. For my the second breakfast, I ordered spinach and egg toast. Completely uncharacteristic for my carnivorous self
and completely mindblowing and memorable. Flavorful multigrain bread topped with slightly steamed greens and an expertly poached egg with a soft and bright orange yolk.
New York needs a place like Joseph Brot. I’ve never seen simple and organic done perfectly.

Das Lavendel-​Honigbrot ist mein persönlicher Favorit. Ich nehme die strapaziöse Strecke in die Stadt immer wieder auf mich, um mich fürs Wochenende mit Gebäck einzudecken. Das Brot hat zwar seinen Preis, aber es hält wesentlich länger als ein im Supermarkt gekauftes. Die Auswahl ist großartig, die Nachhaltigkeit auch, dafür bin ich auch bereit etwas mehr zu bezahlen. Vier Sterne deshalb — weil Vertriebsstellen, vor allem in den Randbezirken rar bis nicht vorhanden sind und weil bei einer derart fortschrittlichen Bäckerei eine Bankomatkassa selbstverständlich sein sollte.

This is the bread that everybody pretends they are getting at Anker, Ströck, Der Mann and elsewhere when they say «Vienna has good bread.» In fact: it doesn’t. But Joseph Brot does!

The best bakery (for bread) in Vienna. Super-​high quality and insane flavor and texture. Even if you don’t make this place your daily bread shop, at least stop in for a freshly baked breadstick if you’re nearby. The staff are always friendly and any queue of customers that may have formed will rapidly dissolve as each person leaves with some amazing bread and a big smile on their face!
Their breads are a little more expensive than other bakeries (hence not your daily bread spot), but the quality you get for that more than makes up for it!

Beim Joseph gibt es ohne Zweifel eines der besten Brote Wiens. Ich esse immer wieder gerne das Joseph Brot das als helles Brot perfekt zu Salaten aber auch zu Gegrilltem passt. Das alles hat natürlich seinen Preis, der Kilo kostet ca. 6 Euro.

Was für eine wunderbare Idee! Das Brot ist das absolut Beste. Die süßen Sachen sind auch sehr gut und authentisch. Was mir ganz besonders gefällt sind die Schinkensemmeln: Handsemmeln mit Beinschinken — ein absolutes Gedicht! Das Kühlregal ist auch nicht zu verachten. Man kann nur hoffen, dass Herr Joseph wenigstens ein paar Nachahmer findet.

So und nicht anders muss (soll) Brot schmecken! Und für die Qualität die hier geboten wird, zahlt man auch gern ein bisserl mehr!
Der einzige Kritikpunkt: es müsste in jedem Bezirk zumindest ein Joseph geben!

Eine Ode an das Nusskipfer…
genau das wäre dieser Bericht geworden, wenn ich ihn nach meinem ersten Besuch beim Joseph geschrieben hätte:
…Ein mürbes Kipferl mit echter Walnussfüllung ist ja heutzutage schon ebenso rar wie delikat. Mein Mehlspeisen Herz kann man damit jedenfalls im Sturm erobern! …
Sich in diesem Review nur auf die Nusskipferl zu beschränken würde dem Joseph Brot jedoch nicht Genüge tun!
Hier wird auf hochwertige Zutaten geachtet und alles per Hand hergestellt… und das schmeckt man deutlich!
Egal ob Brot, Hand-​Salzstangerl oder Hand-​Kornspitz (hier Pheinspitz genannt), hier war einfach noch alles was ich bisher gekostet habe einfach großartig!
Definitiv Wiens beste Bäckerei!

Aus dem schönen Kärntnerlande kommend, ist man was Brot angeht, dann doch ein wenig verwöhnt. Vorallem wenn man auch wirklich vom Land kommt, wo Brot vom Bauern geholt wird oder vom örtlichen Bäcker, der noch ein wirklicher Bäcker ist.
Nachdem ich unzähliges Brot aus diversen Bäckerein probiert hatte war ich immer noch der Meinung: Es geht besser. Und siehe da: tut es wirklich. Anfangs noch immer extra in den 1. Bezirk gepilgert, fand ich dann heraus, dass auch Denn s Joseph Brot anbietet und somit wird der Brotkorb nun noch regelmäßiger damit gefüllt.
Wartezeiten in der Brotboutique hatte ich bis jetzt noch nie. Den Preis finde ich angemessen, für das was man bekommt.
Einmal Joseph, immer Joseph.

Ja, trotz der langen Wartezeiten und der nicht grad so billigen Preise gibts hier 5 Sterne.
Frisches Brot, kreative Zutaten, und immer freundliches Service sollte nämlich auch belohnt werden. Auch die vielen Kleinigkeiten aus der Kühlung sind großartig, ich könnt mich da echt durchs ganze Angebot durchessen!

Wahnsinns freundliches Personal welches ungefragt viele Details zu einem scheinbar banalen Leib Brot erzählt. Roggenbrot schmeckt grandios, hat hier allerdings auch seinen Preis. 600g zb kosten EUR 4,90

Vielen ist ja das Joseph-​Brot schon bekannt und haben es schon weiterempfohlen was ich hiermit auch mache.
Also zuerst: Die Qualität aller Backwaren ist einsame Spitzenklasse. Meines Erachtens auch wesentlich besser als die der ebenfalls im 1. gelegenden Nobelbäckerei Gragger. Selbst am Land bekommt man selten so gutes Brot. Mein persönlicher Favorit ist das Altwiener Hausbrot, ein ausgezeichnetes Mischbrot mit viel Brotgewürz, etwas was man leider nur mehr selten bekommt. Auch das Kleingebäck wie Semmeln, Mohnflesserl und Co sind wunderbar. Nur hat alles seinen Preis: Billig ist es nicht, aber ich finde jeden Cent wert. Eine Semmel um 15 Cent wie beim Hofer wird man dort nicht finden, aber die 6 EUR/​kg für mein geliebtes Altwiener Hausbrot finde ich auf jeden Fall gerechtfertig.
Die Backwaren selbst werden nur teilweise in der Bäckerei fertiggestellt, die eigentlich Lieferbäckerei liegt im Waldviertel. Es gibt aber einen kleinen Ofen für Semmeln und Co, nachdem diese weniger lagerbar sind als Brotlaibe.
Manch anderes wird auch verkauft, wie zum Beispiel Rohmilch oder kleine Mittagsimbisse, davon habe ich noch nichts probiert.
Wieso nun 4 Sterne: Als Erstes, bitte eine Bankomatkassa einführen. Bei den Preisen vermute ich, dass die Marge groß genug ist, um auch die 1% Agio für die Bankomatkassa finanzieren zu können.
Dazu finde ich die ganze Werbekampagne etwas seltsam, aber ok, für die Zielgruppe der Bobos passts.

bestes brot in der stadt. urlaib steht bei mir am sonntag immer am tisch. auch die facebook seite ist echt nicht schlecht. design im laden ist auch top. leider hat das alles seinen preis aber es schmeckt einfach.
