Hoo Haa is a great bar to enjoy a few cocktails. It has a happy hour from 4pm — 7pm with a great deal of 2 for 1 cocktails. i’m a gin drinker and the staff are always happy to substitute the vodka based cocktails with gin for me. In fact they have often just made up their own cocktails for me by asking what flavours I like. The place has ample seating, with long couches to chill on and also a table set area for you to dine on. The food is from the restaurant Kuku Mama, with creations by chef Matthew Butcher of Morris Jones fame. Prices are very reasonable and atmosphere is great, it doesn’t have any pretentious feel to it at all. I definitely recommend that you give Hoo Haa a go.

I never really liked this place; It seems uppity, pretentious, wanky, and full of docuhe bags. Its oh so commercial, and i don’t think it really retains an intimate feel. Yeah drinks are okay, but it seems to be that classic Melbourne clique venue of «don’t talk to me, I Don’t know you.» I don’t know, i never really felt a welcomed vibe when I’ve been here, it all seems a bit stand off ish. Perhaps a day time encounter would be worth it? Actually, the bouncers were pretty nice, and open, generally speaking are cool dudes.

Hoo Haa has a lot going for it, an upstairs venue with three areas to choose from; large dining tables for lunches and dinners, cosy intimate booths for romantic catch ups and a great outdoor decked area with a dj booth for enjoying some tunes in the sunshine over Summer. I have also always really enjoyed the food at Hoo Haa, over the years they have had a range of different weeknight specials such as Super Parma night, Pasta night and also Sunday Roast. Super Parma night on a Wednesday became so popular they had to implement a members only code to keep a hold on the numbers. I have experienced one negative aspect to Hoo Haa and unfortunately that has to be the staff, they can be rude, dismissive and also charge you different amounts for the same drink at any given point. I find it’s best to just be direct, polite and straight with them and you should have no worries.

I like HooHaa. This is big for two reasons: One: Chapel Street’s wanky approach to letting people in pisses me off, but HooHaa generally doesn’t seem to suffer the same issues with aggressive doorstaff; and two: I usually hate clubs, and Hoo Haa could ALMOST be considered a club, but is actually more like a cool clubby bar. Anyway. The wine here is good, but pricey. The booths are cool and good for sitting reallyclosetoeachotherandtalkingsuperloud. The outdoor area is fun and large– you can actually move out there. And, there is a small dancefloor filled with attractive people who aren’t gettin’ up in ma bizness while I try to carry on a interesting conversation.

I think Hoo haa is often overlooked as a pretty decent bar and restaurant. Perhaps it’s because it’s so hard to find — simply a narrow door between an IGA and an obsolete furniture store. I’ve had some strange incidents with waiters there, they all seem a bit spaced out, but Hoo haa is still a fantastic place to drink. The lighting and mood is perfect for a relaxed or intimate drink with friends or even a lover. The bar area is divided into sections, one of which comprises a series of booths that allow for the kind of privacy I require when tucking into one of their classic parmas. The other section is feeds into a fantastic quasi outdoor area which is good for afternoon drinks or a night time partay. I haven’t had a function here but they offer them so if you’re looking for a place to have your 21st(etc) I would check it out.
