Ah, the age old debate: Brett’s vs. Bunnings. It’s almost as polarising as Ford vs. Holden, chocolate vs. vanilla, and Mac vs. PC. I think where you live probably plays a role in which side you take, and because I happen to live near a Brett’s not a Bunnings even I(who can barely work a screwdriver and usually only go into hardware stores to sniff the nice paint and timber smell) have taken sides. I like Brett’s because it’s huge, and has different departments(key cutting, paint, fixtures, lighting). It also feels less like a big, commercial chain than Bunnings does, probably because it is less of a big, commercial chain. When you walk in you immediately notice how much less branding and advertising they have around than Bunnings does, and the vibe is more like a big workshop full of tradies than a store. I can’t comment with much expertise on their range, but I can tell that they have LOTS of stuff. It’s a massive store. My Dad always seems to find what he needs there. I’m usually over by the paint swatches contemplating a bright purple feature wall or something, but I can guarantee you this: it sure does smell nice in there!
