Agreed with the other reviews this is a far better option than grilld which is opposite then. We ordered about 30 minutes before closing time but unlike several other restaurants in Chapel Street the staff were more than happy to serve us. The make your own burger option is pretty damn epic as it gives you all sorts of wonderful options for total happiness. They have an amazing selection of food options so you can be sure everyone in your group will find something yummy to eat. I went with the 220gram burger cooked med-well but added Swiss cheese and MAPLE bacon… Of course I selected the chunky fries which are always nice as it makes you feel like a better person and not like you are eating at McDonald’s. I enjoyed my burger even though it was a little spicey but you could tell it was made with real love and I enjoyed it. We were all impressed view quickly the burgers were cooked considering everyone in our group had a different burger option and the kitchen was getting ready to close when we arrived. They did end up having to ask us to leave as it was 1015pm and they closed at 10pm. Huge credit to the staff for staying open slightly longer so we could finish our meals. I would say make the trip here for sure just try and get here more than 30 minutes before closing time so you can relax and soak up the awesomeness of this place. Also if you can make it here they do offer free delivery…

Great little joint with homemade patties that you can build your own burger out of. We had a couple of cheeseburgers and cokes and loved it, I’d return. They deliver too: D

First time I tried their burger. I like the way they grind the meat, it’s not too soft so you actually still can taste the ground beef. Plus don’t go crazy when you add toppings. Remember don’t get well done way cos the burger will be too hard. bun still quite hard compare to Huxta. Overall good burger.

Not a place for the indecisive. You get to choose every option of your burger, and all fresh. If eating in you get your burger open, I assume that this is so you can mix together that perfect mix of sauce, before you close it and take your first bite. YUM! They even do delivery, oh I wish I lived closer.

I love a place where you can customise your order to suit your needs. Babu has certainly won me over with their delicious menu, lovely staff and chilled atmosphere. I found it great because I didn’t have to have my burgers in a bun and got to choose the sauce I wanted over my meatballs. Served with a delicious side salad that was quite large too.(You also have the choice of fries, chips or wedges). We had a lovely dining experience here and I’m thinking this place will become a regular haunt as it was just too damn easy!

Custom built burgers what more can you ask for! Grill’d should take note. Starting with the weight of the beef pattie 150g /220g /300g and how well you want it cooked. Then the sky opens up and you can add virtually any extras you want. If your not after a burger they have other options like meatballs, but hey it is a burger place!

After the pedicure, my partner and I were famished and were looking for a quick bite before returning to the city. I have to be honest, the name of the restarant. well let’s just say the with balls part made me wonder… after seeing Hugh’s review, I knew the green light was on and it was time for me to try Babu’s. First, the burger — I got the number one with the air fries. It was damn delicious! I think the burger was flavored with some garam masala or maybe cumin and some coriander. Who knows? All I know that it was mighty tasty! The air fries were crispy and delicious without all the fat. I will definitely try the meatballs — notice I added meat to them — the next time I come to chapel street and have a hankering for Babu’s!

Pretty average burger. Taste better to go to a pub and less expensive. Their hot sauce is only a range of Tabasco sauces. Find it very insulting that they could only come up with that. Burgers taste really ordinary even when I got the blue cheese one with chipotle sauce. Must have been a teaspoon of chipotle sauce i had to load it it up with bbq sauce and tabasco to get more of a flavour and enjoy it. Service was really shit too!

To be honest I like the idea that babu stands for, but I don’t like the spicing of the burger. I think they have added cumin or something like that to the burger, which has pushed he flavours in the burger out of normal burger territory. These guys do a great little home delivery service. No soggy burgers or fries here!

OMFG. Man-burgers here are amazing — option up to a 300g beef patty, cooked exactly how you like it, along with avocado and bacon and egg, and you’ll be in burger heaven — shortly followed by a well deserved food coma! #1 for burgers in inner-city Melbourne

Damn excellent! I’m getting the meat balls this time and they work well even more so with hone delivery. Meat balls are a little short of the serving and there really should be 5 big ‘uns for the Price. In any case the serving should be upped. So aside from the actual burgers, the servings aren’t very big. But they are tasty. Now that I’ve actually got the correct business details, this is my extended review as apposed to my first for the business. Custominsing burgers is a great thing to have.

Oh man I will be visiting here again — yummy. A unique burger place that offers burgers and meatballs that you can customise yourself. Pick your patty size, the rareness of said patty, your own ingredients and sauce. We were warmly greeted at the front door and I was also offered cider in my ginger which was pretty awesome! They have their own ‘Babu Cider’ which I believe is from Coldstream. I’m a fan of both Grilled and Parlour Diner which is opposite and just down the road, yet this place is different again. Go to Grilled if you want to stick with the same old, or want a salad. Go to Parlour if you’re in the mood for American style and curly fries. Got to Babu if you’re after either Burgers, Meatballs or home delivery(I believe they’re on Menu Log). Service was top notch, serving size just hit the spot! I got the 150g(which in my opinion is just the right size), med-well done, camembert, garlic sauce, bacon and avocado(I’m drooling just thinking about it).

Another decent burger place, where you can also go for meatballs if you’re so inclined. Friendly staff, nice décor and reasonable food. No complaints, but not blown out of the water either.

One of the best — if not the best burger place on chapel! Portions are extra big, so i suggest you share. Even the mini(150g) is filling! Plus you can make your own extravaganza with add-ons. The options are slightly more limited than other places, but somehow seem to work really well. Avoid the deep fried onions if your also ordering chips with your burger — it’s just far too much otherwise. Price wise, it’s fairly typical for the gourmet burger places about these days. think along the lines of $ 15-$ 20 bucks — about on par with grilled. The guy that owns/runs this place is pretty friendly too. Gold stars all round on this one!

We loved our lunch at Babu Burger today. I especially enjoyed the fantastic service. We were greeted at the door. Nice! There were 5 of us — and we were all pretty hungry. WAY better burgers and fries than Grill’d(which happens to be right across the street) — and I usually love Grill’d. This is the best burger I have ever had in Melbourne. Go to Babu. Order a burger with blue cheese. Thank me later. Haha! :)

Can’t be compared to Grill’d burgers across the street. Babu blows Grill’d out of the water… or off the grill? I’ll think of something wittier later. I went in with a craving for a burger and something new. Thinking about Grill’d across the street, I wonder if Babu was better… The menu is simple: choose how much beef you want(150g, 220g, 300g) and then you choose your toppings/sauces. They can be as simple as lettuce and tomato, to something more extravagant like camembert cheese and sautéed onions. I should also note that patties are not just minced beef, but hand-minced sirloin steak, providing an rich juicy experience. You can also cook the patties to order… I love the beefy flavour and mine was ordered medium-rare… YUM! I went for the 220g burger with bacon, sautéed onions, and camembert cheese. This also included lettuce, tomato, onion, and pickle. Since I considered myself extra hungry, I ordered a side of wedges with sour cream and sweet chili sauce(best sauce combination ever!!). The burger came out displaying the glory that was about to enter my mouth. The patty with my custom condiments on one side, with the top half of the patty on the other. Stacking one on top of the other, the burger was too big more my mouth… quite a feat since I have a large mouth! The flavours melded perfectly, although the camembert took over the burger, running down the sides and onto my fingers(worth the finger licking post-meal). Aside from the dominant cheese flavour, the burger takes me back to homemade burgers in the summertime, in my hometown near Seattle, USA(a place known for its burgers). The wedges were perfectly crisped and slightly starchy, just the way I like them. The service was amazing, being personally greeted by the owner/manager Eyal. The place was fairly empty for lunch, but allows you to get your burger quicker! Price? Well the burger with all the toppings I order was around $ 15, and the wedges were $ 4.50. I was stuffed for under $ 20, and I remember the price being comparable to Grill’d, where I had their Moroccan burger for about $ 15. Best burgers on Chapel Street I’ve had. Worth the effort to cross over to the sunny side of the street and bask the glory of Babu and his burgers.

Nice burger place that will struggle to compete with the Grill’d across the road. Good things: — Thick and tasty burger patties in well-toasted buns — Novel build-your-own-burger menu — Staff friendly — Nice décor Not so good things: — Menu format can make ordering a chore — A modest selection of toppings quickly pushes the burger price above $ 15 — Chips mealy and undercooked — Long wait times even when not busy — Staff struggle with English, which is a problem because… — …the music is turned up loud — Food is over-packaged, despite containers being recyclable Babu Bar Burger could increase its appeal quickly by offering more complete burgers on the menu, improving the quality of the chips, and selectively lowering the price of menu items. Grill’d has proven that burger restaurants can thrive in Melbourne, but I“m not optimistic about Babu’s chances of survival in its current format.
