Fancy Japanese restaurant near Circular Quay. They gave us corner seats, which were perfect to people watch and to have a quiet conversation. The tables aren’t super close together which allow some privacy. Food was alright. I was a little disappointed with the rolls. They fell apart as soon as I picked them up. But the wasabi served was definitely fresh, which tasted subtle and a little sweet, definitely the real high quality stuff. I wouldn’t rave about the food cause I’ve had better in Sydney, but it’s a great place to have a fancy nice dinner with your co-workers, friends or lovers. Service was excellent too.

Yum! A great dining spot near awful Circular Quay. Portions are quite small, but delicious. Sashimi and carpaccios were exceptionally fresh. Sake menu is great. Wine menu… very ‘Japanese restaurant wine menu’.

Really great service staff and very fast in bringing out your meal. The food is high quality and tastes fresh everytime. I’ve had the salmon teriyaki teishoku a few times now — the salmon is very well cooked and the teriyaki sauce is the best I’ve had in Sydney(and importantly not too salty but still tasty enough to just eat rice covered in the sauce alone). I’ve also had the Wagyu sukiyaki teishoku as well. I regularly eat wagyu sukiyaki udon from another local Japanese joint but you can really taste the difference in quality at Yayoi(admittedly you pay more too). The meat is tender and the vegetables are fresh and crunchy. The teishoku comes with a few sides(some greens and with the salmon one, a savoury egg pudding which is interesting but which I don’t like too much). I am yet to try the dessert but the matcha affrogato sounds like it has potential! Prices are not cheap given the size is not huge but very worth it.
