Pretty legit laksa. I chose the laksa with chicken and prawns, which came up pretty quickly. My wife ordered noodles which took a while and were only okay… so stick to the laksa. Neither meat was fantastic, but the broth and other parts certainly were. Creamy, tangy, not really spicy(I would love it spicier), but everything was balanced. The place itself is kind of cramped, and you order from the counter. Prices are quite fair. Would return, but my wife wouldn’t.

I heard good things about this place and decided to drop by one day. As I was walking through the area and looking into windows I noticed a huge lineup and sure enough it was Malay Chinese Takeaway. I heard good things about the laksa but I saw beef rendang on the menu and hadn’t had it in quite sometime so placed an order. I would have sat down but the place was packed beyond belief so I took it to a park around the corner. The beef rendang was awesome with a good amount of spice to it. I’d recommend trying it out. The price was great as well as it’s hard to find lunch outside of sandwiches or something at the grocery store for sub $ 10.

The laksa bowls are gigantic. We are not giant lunch eaters, so we probably should’ve just split one. That said, we took the rest home(after paying I believe 50 cents for a container) and I just slurped up the rest in the middle of the night. The line wasn’t terrible when we got there, and they seem to just have giant vats of this stuff in the back simmering ready to go, cause we got our food in like 2 minutes, along with a can of Sarsi, which I hadn’t had since I was a kid. Do note that it’s cash only.

The best Laksa in Sydney. Hands down! They are extremely busy during lunch time so it is better to come later around 1:30pm onwards to avoid the long line… it is worth the wait though!!~

Tried the seafood laksa here due to the rave online reviews and friend’s recommendation. Absolutely worth the wait! Don’t be put off by the long line, the staff are super efficient and I got my food in under 5 minutes despite being peak lunch hour. $ 12.50 for super creamy and delicious laksa? Yes please!

This might be the best laksa around the area! Came here for lunch. This place was pack with people! You might have to just fight to get a table… But the laksa was absolutely amazing. Rich coconut soup base, noodle was cook just right. Nothing to complain but the amount of people here.

The Laksa here is tops plus it was one of the few places that was open in the area on a Saturday! Had the Seafood Laksa and the Char Kway Teow and they were delicious. Service is prompt too, but I can imagine this place being very busy on workdays. TIP: They only accept cash, so make sure you come prepared, otherwise they’re direct you to the nearest ATM.

Things to love about this place: –The line is massive so you know it’s going to be an amazing meal –Although the line is massive the people behind the counter have got the process down to a science– the line moves quickly and you’ll have your food in no time –Bibs– yup, this restaurant is full of adults wearing bibs to protect themselves from stray noodle splashes –Lunch will only set up back a bit more than $ 10, which I’d consider a great deal The laksa itself is also a star– great broth, spicy but not too spicy and a good amount of meat in the soup(I went with chicken) Only drawback is that you’re guaranteed to start sweating while you’re eating so keep your clothing choice in mind when going!

This place is a gem in Sydney for people that love asian food. This place was packed full of people even in the middle of the afternoon. I ordered the chicken and shrimp laksa and it tasted so good. The dish looks spicy, but really just has lots of flavor. The shrimps were normal size and the chicken was not dry at all. My friend who grew up in Singapore said this food tasted very authentic and reminded him of cooking from his childhood.

For one of my first meals in Sydney, I found this place when the weather started to act very funny: overcast skies, the winds were a little stronger, the temperature dropping, and small falling raindrops. I was getting hungry and I found this place. I got the laksa curry noodles with chicken and small prawns and it was one of the most wonderful noodle soups I had, especially during a rainy day. The chicken was so tender. The prawns were definitely small but fairly sizable for a small mouth and the portions were generous, and they actually tasted like good prawns. The flavour of the noodle soup was just right. It was not spicy but it had a great mild flavour due to the creamy coconut milk mixed with the laksa. Service was fairly fast, since the afternoon was a slow day. The location is very good, it’s not too far from Circular Quay. Expect to pay a little more than $ 15 for a good sized noodle soup and a drink. Don’t expect any sophistication at this place, it has a very simple set up as if you are walking into a nice hawker centre. Overall, I thought I had some of the best laksa noodles so far at one of the best locations in Sydney. It’s definitely a good option if you are looking for a dish under $ 15.

I love, love, love laksa, and one of my workmates regularly treks down to Hunter Street to Malay Chinese Takeaway for a laksa, and suggested we try it. Three of us went for a laksa during the lunchtime rush, but it was totally worth it. We ate in, it was very crowded(so be prepared to share tables with strangers during the lunch our rush) but the lineup to order was only about 5 mins, and the wait for our laksas was about the same. We ordered chicken laksas and a vegetable laksa(which was ready before the chicken surprisingly). I also paid the 30c for a bib for my work colleague as a joke, but I think it was actually a good idea!!! There’s a massive bowl of chilli to self serve to your laksa if you like it spicy! There are also lots of other Malay dishes to choose from if you feel like something different. The restaurant is very crowded with as many tables squeezed in there as possible. Not great if you’re claustrophobic, but a true indicator of how very popular this place is. The laksa was divine, sublime, and absolutely delish. Lots of coconut cream(not milk) and palm sugar I suspect! Very, very indulgent, but totally, totally worth it. The chicken was so tender, the soup so more-ish that it was really hard to stop! No vegetables in it though, which is a bit unusual. Absolutely recommended and probably the best laksa I’ve ever had! Less than $ 10, fast service and perfect for a delicious, casual lunch! We brought back a takeaway laksa for one of our colleagues, which appeared to be much smaller than the«eat in» serving judging by the size of the container, but I was assured that the container was very well stuffed!

The best thing about working in Chifley Tower is the proximity to Malay Chinese Takeaway(and the view…) I normally eat in but got takeaway this time. The ladies behind the counter are on point with the orders. They don’t give you a number, they don’t take your name but it is very unlikely you’ll wait long or get forgotten. The line is always long but it moves with surprising speed. I has the skinless chicken. I was a little disappointed with the size of the takeaway at first. They don’t use the standard takeaway laksa bowl you see elsewhere. They use the large takeaway container which means you get less of the soup. After I had finished, to be honest, I didn’t miss it. This is great laksa. Needs more chilli added but they’ll do that for you with a heavy hand. You also get a free mandarin which is a nice touch.

UPGRADE! Now it gets the full 5 stars. :) I went here two weeks ago. My coworker and I found ourselves nearby, and on his suggestion we decided to go here again before a meeting.(Don’t you love it when that happens? You suggest a place to someone and next time around, they bring up going there again.) Things I did differently this time: — ate in vs. take away. It was around 4PM. The lunchtime rush was over, and with the exception of 2 tables the place was empty. The servings were a lot bigger than take away, so yay — ordered skinless chicken vs. «regular» chicken laksa(which comes with gnarly chicken skin, ew) Food came wicked fast, and despite that it was still super tasty. Mmm. I also got the bib for an extra 30 cents, haha. Well worth it. :P Skinless chicken laksa + veggies + bib = $ 11.

After my lunch date cancelled(must work ruin everything?) I decided to check out Malay as Unilocal has been telling me to do so for a few weeks now. The place was busy, as had been warned, but the line moved quickly and, being a solo diner, I was able to easily find a seat. Never having been huge on Laksa(it’s a good soup if I’m in the mood) and not being huge on prawns(raised Old Testament), I did that the reviews told me and ordered the King Prawn Laksa. The broth was absolutely delicious. The prawns were tender and packed with flavour. The sprouts added a pleasant crunch to contrast the noodles. I think I finally understand why people are so crazy about laksa. Thanks for not letting me down, Unilocal

Stung. Hurt, cut to the quick. Someone has questioned my tastebuds. Yep, my buds. Not my palate or my taste but my actual tastebuds. Someone called Chris L questioned mine AND Barry T’s !!! The gall — I mean Barry actually does know what he’s talking about. Said we were wrong to have enjoyed the Laksa at Sedap. Say whaaaaaat ? Anyway I see now his review got filtered but the damage has been done my friends and now I am going to taste test Sydney’s Laksas, defective tastebuds and all ! Today is my birthday and I did the most heroic thing I’ve done in years. … I ate a whole bowl of King Prawn Laksa from Malay Chinese Takeaway. Scoffed the lot . I nearly made the critical mistake of putting the wrong sauce in — the smiling old bloke who supervises quickly stopped me and pointed out the correct sauce. Except it wasn’t sauce — it was some kind of chemical warfare agent designed to make human organs disappear from the inside. And I put in two spoonfuls to try and show the old guy that I knew what I was doing and was only pretending to put in the sauce that belongs with the Hainan Chicken. I started sweating after two minutes and it just got worse. Now I know why that old bloke is there — he disposes of the dead bodies. So much for my tastebuds — I’m not sure I haven’t dissolved my tongue. Wow that was an amazing Laksa, I don’t know if it beats Sedap, too close to call. Absolutely beautiful. This place is packed. This is seriously great food and when I handed back my empty bowl the old guy showed it to a young woman and they both nodded at me — I felt mighty proud and I left with my head held high as I sprinted for the bathroom.

I grew up in Singapore and had lived near Katong(hint hint: Katong Laksa) for a few years, therefore I do have high expectation of laksa. BUT, Malay Chinese restaurant did not disappoint(yay!!!) Initially I planned to order Char Kway Teow(worried that I might be disappointed with laksa) but I changed my mind when everyone else in the restaurant was eating laksa. For $ 8.60, I got a B.I.G bowl of chicken laksa. It was pretty darn good. The broth was rich and had strong coconut curry flavor. I would suggest letting the chicken pieces soak in the laksa broth for a while because they were cold when served. My only criticism is… where is the hard boiled egg!!! :( Will definitely be back to try other dishes. *shiok!*

Very good laksa — I always go for the king prawn. Well balanced and delicious! If you get here at 12.15 or 1.45 you can usually get a seat. Get a bib, or go in clothes you don’t mind splashing with laksa!

Oh laksa, your broth is divine. I could drink it all day. I’ve only had laksa a few times in my life, so I am no expert, but this was so delicious. I had a skinless chicken laksa and loved every last drop.

This is the closest candle Sydney holds to Singapore’s hawker centres. Granted it’s just one shop, not 100. And it’s inside, not out. And it’s only pushing 30 degrees, not 45. But from the moment you’re hustled inside, you’ll experience a mini Maxwell Centre, from the close proximity you are to your neighbours to the cheap plastic seating to the lack of concern for either of the aforementioned because of the incredible chicken rice and laksa you can’t seem to shove in your face as quickly as your tastebuds demand it. It’s cheap, fast, hot, and delicious, so join the queue. And don’t scoff when they offer you a bib — take it with humble gratitude. Or be prepared to be envious of the Americans with the Tide stick.
