From the street, this place doesn’t look like much. A hole in the wall Chinese joint in Chinatown, nothing to distinguish itself from its neighbours. There’s a few tables and chairs, and a stairway in the corner. Where does the stairway go? To an all you can eat hotpot buffet, that’s where. For $ 29($ 25 without seafood) per person, you get unlimited access to a large array of food, some of it ready to eat, but most of it uncooked. Why uncooked, you ask? Because that’s what the hotpot on every table in the upstairs section of the restaurant is for. Dunk the food in the hotpot for a minute or two and voila. You can order your hotpot as spicy, mild or ever as half and half, so everyone’s happy. Most of the food you can cook in the hotpot is available from the buffet, but if you want thinly cut slices of lamb to cook just ask the waitress and she’ll bring you as much as you’d like. It’s super yummy cooked in the hotpot. The food is delicious and highly authentic, you can tell this by the presence of rather, ahem, interesting foods available in the buffet such as fish heads and chicken feet, but there are also things that are more familiar to everyone, such as prawns, oysters and the lamb slices. No honey chicken, fried rice, Mongolian lamb or any of those classic ‘Australian Chinese’ dishes though, if you’re looking for that it’s best to go elsewhere. The staff are friendly enough despite some not speaking much English, but it’s easy enough to communicate with them. All in all though, I highly recommend this place for a fun, reasonably priced night out! Try not to wear new clothes though, because the smell of the hotpot sauce will stay on them after you leave.

You may be tempted to walk past this hole in the wall, but don’t. The family that run this little place are often eating there before the lunch rush so you can see that that food is good enough for them to eat! Stick with the Hot Pot — choose the spiciness of the water and then choose the meat and that’s all you have to worry about — everything arrives and you cook it yourself at the table. $ 25 for a hot pot which is more than enough for 2 people but may not be enough for 3 unless you go down the alley to the experimental gelato place for dessert.(hint). Choose the lamb and beef mixed meat to try them both — super thin so they cook quickly. Absolutely delicious and you’ll think you are in Bejing. Don’t go for ambience as it really is a hole in the wall — go for the food. You won’t be disappointed.

Little Lamb is part of the Little Sheep franchise around the world. This is an all you can eat hotpot so recommended that you come hungry to get your money’s worth. The price is reasonable but I think quality wise there are better places out there(for a bigger spend). I’d still go here though because it is a known and consistent brand. Just remember not to wear any new clothes because it will have the smell of hotpot spices on them afterwards.
