My favourite place to eat while in Sydney. Best steaks around, reasonably priced, friendly staff, great location! Best thing is it’s kid friendly! Not many places around that you can bring the kids!

Jacksons On George is an interesting place. The first floor is actually PJ’s and there are multiple levels in the building. Each floor is a totally different vibe and scene. I think cause as I write this review and try to remember what exactly happened that night. There are 4 different floors and 5 different bars. We mainly stayed in the PJ Galllagher’s on the first floor after checking out the other floors. The other floors were completely dead and there were no more than 10 people on each floor. I was quite surprised because it was 12AM on a Friday night. The other bars we visited were packed but this was pretty dead. Therefore, we returned back to the 1st floor. Overall, the drinks were cheap and your typical Irish Pub with the games on. It’s a very relaxing and tame way to end the night. The bartenders were really nice and everyone was friendly. It’s nothing out of the ordinary.

Meh, I probably wouldn’t come back. I came in for a burger and a beer. Straightforward enough but the burger had way too much ketchup and mayo on it, it was just ok. The fries were good, crispy, so a few points there. The staff were so so, brought over the food but no utensils, napkins, etc.

A nice little pub café located on the main drag near the Circular Quay. The food is good with a decent selection of main courses. I usually came in late after work, so I didn’t want to eat a heavy meal and typically had the steamed veggies, which were very good. Sidewalk seating is available and offers a good view for people watching.

I have incredibly fond memories of Jackson’s — it will be one of my 1st stops when I return to OZ! After a fun filled night of 101 beers, we fell just shy of our goal(we had a large party and a common goal to finish the beer list in order to get the birthday boy’s name on the wall) the staff actually called us the next morning to root us on… we only had 3 left and 2 hours to finish within our 24 hour mark. Never fear — you can take as long you want to try their incredible beer selection… we just wanted to set a time frame for celebration. The staff was amazing and the beer and food were all great! Definately a fabulous«neighborhood» bar conveniently located in downtown Sydney!

One of the roughest joints I have ever visited, I couldn’t wait to get out of Jacksons as soon as I walked in. A friend suggested we continue on to Jacksons for some cheap drinks. Having heard about the cages, I was rather intrigued and agree to come along. I was very disappointed upon arrival, what with the sleezy atmosphere(and background creepers) to the token sticky floor and stale beer smell. Definitely not my kind of place. With Jacksons you either love it or loathe it. In my case, I will never revisit this joint. If friends ever suggest Jacksons, I simply refuse to go and so do others. Unless you’re up for drinks and/or very drunk don’t go there. You can’t go to Jacksons sober! They are open super late which is one of its main attractions.

Oh Jackson’s. You’re such a guilty pleasure. I’ve come here several times for lunch during the week. It’s super cheap, and I think that’s why I keep coming back for its traditional pub fare. Last time I was here, I had the chicken burger with chips and my choice of a beer. Portions are very generous and the food was pretty good considering it was only $ 17(including the beer!). Another tip, Jackson’s also has really decent coffee. Every time grab a coffee here it’s brewed pretty seamlessly, never burnt and with good foam. Don’t get me wrong, Jackson’s on George is not a beautiful place. The interior is rather drab, but I wouldn’t suggest coming here for the ambience. Rather, it’s a good destination for a cheap meal and a reliable coffee.

It’s Christmas Eve, a light rainfall makes for a pitter patter against the sheet glass walls. Candle light and low level halogens illuminate the interiors as diners and drinkers alike await the midnight changeover from ordinary day to another ordinary day but with religious and familial meaning. We sit at a small wooden table inside Jackson’s on George, normally viewed as a trashy bar with an even trashier night club upstairs, and I admit, there are few occasions when I will drink here. Tonight, however, being Christmas Eve, and I with a restaurant voucher(two for the price of one) and with an international guest as my date, am dining in the award winning restaurant of Jackson’s on George. The food is delicious and of outstanding quality, it has to be to win the awards it has, and as she eats her Fettucini Carbonara and I my Salmon, the close proximity to the bar means the wines are ever present and refilled at a constant rate. The clock strikes Christmas o’clock and we call it a night, leaving Jackson’s restaurant, refusing to enter the seedy sports bar beneath, but rather to keep the night classy and walk through the warm summer sprinkles to our respective homes.

Something for everybody-a restaurant, a pub, a cocktail bar. Located just down the road from The Rocks, Jacksons is a great place to pop in after work during Happy Hour or to commence your Saturday night with a late dinner at Bar CQ, overlooking George Street. The atmosphere is friendly(sometimes a little too friendly if you linger around), the service efficient, and the bar on the premises, reminiscent of New York, serves up some pretty decent and reasonably priced cocktails. It also features the Jacksons Beer Hall of Fame. Make your way to the second floor for a game of pool overlooking Sydney Harbour. There IS a club for dancing but I wouldn’t necessarily continue my night here.

I suppose Jackson’s on George is good as a convenient after work drinks venue, it is comfortable with a well thought out layout. But as somewhere for a meal I would not really recommend it. Being that it is close to the Rocks it is one of the less expensive dining options so if you are looking to safe a few bucks it is also a reasonable option, however I still found the food a bit disappointing. I had the Rump Steak with salad and chips and I just found the meal ordinary. I ordered medium rare and it was more well done and I found the salad really boring. It was a meal lacking any real culinary imagination or care, it was no better than a $ 10 pub steak meal and it cost more than twice that much. Jackson’s would be a last option on my dining list.

A place that offers something for everyone, Jacksons on George is definitely the place for a fun night out. Having 5 bars all in one means you don’t need to travel from one end of Sydney to the other because everything that you need for a great night out is at your fingertips. A sports bar for the sports fanatics, a pool bar for those who want to relax and unwind after work(Happy Hour, here we come!), a restaurant that gives you a relaxed dining experience(Chicken, Avocado & Feta Quesadilla is really yummy), a classic New York style bar that plays retro music(70’s-90’s), and RNB and hip hop night club for those who want to dance ’til dawn. A night out here is an experience that you’ll never forget.

I don’t know what I love more about this place — its sticky floors, it’s 80’s hits or the fact that you go here to dance, have fun and not give a shit who is watching. It’s so tacky its awesome — guaranteed to have a stupid silly night out and we all need one of those sometimes. Now I think one of the reasons it’s a messy place to play is because it has a 24 hour licquor licence… and it’s open 7 days a week till really really late(early depending on your perspective) so it attracts those who like to party and drink. It has five bars and four floors of entertainment and music. Blokes might find the 3DTV’s and the Jacksons Beer Hall of Fame with over 100 beers from around the world appealing — girl you’ll like the fact that you can lose yourself because there’s no on here to impress.

This is a strange venue. Situated just around the corner from Circular Quay, depending on which entrance you choose, you’ll either end up in a traditional wood panelled pub or a mirrored poker machine room. Neither of these outcomes is strange considering the state of pubs in this city. Intrepid patrons who mount the staircase will find an the Luna Lounge, an upper bar area with a dance floor. This particular night, my friends and I found ourselves here with a group of eight or so. There was no one else in the room aside from two girls and a smoke machine pumping the area full of grey haze. It was there, between puffs of smoke, that we saw it: a dancing cage! Now this was strange. At first, we walked up and poked at the long rectangular enclosure built into the wall. The bars were kind of rubbery, allowing just enough give to slip between but tensile enough to be swung from. There was an awkward period where our group just danced and pretended that this cage did not exist. Finally, one of the braver(read: drunker) girls in our group built up the courage to try the thing out and several moments later, everyone was taking a turn. At one point, we all ended up in the cage performing for an otherwise desolate dancefloor. The main bar and Pool Bar, the uppermost floor(which has a couple of snooker tables and a pool hall vibe), are pretty forgettable, but the second floor — wow. Definitely take your crew to try out the dancing cage: you’ll be surprised who gets down.
