I’ll be honest, I’ve only tried the laksa here. Even so, it’s good enough to warrant this rating. You’ll only need to see this place at lunch time to get an impression of how good it is — it’s always busy here. The prices are cheap and the quality is high. There’s seating at the main entrance and also downstairs(you can usually get a seat after a little wait, due to the high turnover). Getting takeaway is also a good option. I really need to try some of the other menu items, but that laksa is so good…

The HCR is the bomb. Also try the chicken Char Kway Teow. Ipoh gets really busy for lunch but the ordering is efficient and the meals come out pretty quickly. Despite lots of tables occasionally you may need to share — but that’s half the fun!

Super super super crowded on a Friday lunch break! Hubs had the roti and I got the Laksa. I know I haven’t hit up the best laksa in the city yet but this was a contender, best I’ve had so far. I’m also going on colour as this had a deeper red hue. Dang now I want another bowl. Noodles in spicy sauce. Grabbing a table was really tricky because of the sheer amount of people, and so food wait time took a little longer. But again, worth the wait.

Still looking for good lunch options in the CBD. Ipoh On York is very busy during lunch time, but service is fast. I had best chicken laksa here in Sydney so far. The coconut-based curry soup is absolutely delicious with just the right amount of chili to make your tongue tingle. The sandy or gritty texture of the soup gives the flavours an extra depth. The rice vermicelli is nicely firm and the shredded chicken is tender. There are not enough toppings compared to the generous portion of noodles, probably a cost issue for a $ 10 dish.

Great Malaysian food. Tried the Roti Cannai and the Nasi Lemak and they are delicious. They’re one of the best Malaysian food I’ve had in Sydney so far. And the prices are quite reasonable too. They get very busy during lunch hour so you need to get there early, otherwise you might not be able to find a place to seat. You order at the counter and are given a number, once your number is called, you then collect your tray of food and find a place to seat. I did notice that a few of the seats were reserved so I guess you can make reservations there. They don’t open for dinner though as I found out one evening when I tried to go there after work.

I eat here regularly, as my vegetarian friend can get a wide variety of hot dishes here. Otherwise I might not venture in — it’s a bit scary. It totally reminds me of any good food court in Singapore — queues of people, menu with pictures of the food, streams of food coming out, staff barking orders and shouting, and always, always ALWAYS busy. Miles of tables, nearly always chocker, but turning over very quickly. You never wait long for a seat, and lots of folks do take out from here. For $ 10 you can get a great meal — the beef rendang is awesome, and honestly, one of the best I have had anywhere. A wide variety of Asian foods available, curries, stir fry, murtabak, mainly Indonesian and Malaysian based, in a wide variety of formats — literally something for everyone. Hard to fault — you won’t regret it.

After enough complaints from my husband about how crappy/overrated all the Malaysian restaurants I took him to are, I finally asked him to tell me what he was comparing them all to. We came to Ipoh on York around 1pm, and the place was packed, but with customers moving quickly enough so that we didn’t need to wait. I ordered the chicken laksa and my husband got the Hianese chicken rice. The were both easily, EASILY the best versions of each dish I’ve ever had. The portions were massive, and everything was so fresh and so full of flavour! I don’t think I’ll spend another dollar on Malaysian food anywhere else from now on. Great service, clean ambient seating, quick food, cheap food!!!, delicious food!

We were looking for Asian halal food in Sydney and came here as it was on our list. Easy to find just down the road from our hotel on George Street. It was crowded at lunch time and appears popular with local office workers. Tables were close together so a little cramped. Not a place to linger. Daughter had wanton laksa and husband had the normal laksa. I had the Ipoh kway teow. Food was piping hot and delicious. Kway Teow was good. But the laksa cannot compare to our own versions. It was a little diluted. The wantons however were full of chicken filling and huge. Overall expensive for Singapore standards but huge portions and value-for-money.

Loved my Mee Rebus! It was a little different that what I’ve seen in other places, as it’s served with lettuce and tomato. But the flavor was right, and the portion was big. Nice people working there too!

Been here a few times. Laksa is decent. The last time we were there we were served a murtabak in which the beef was off. Shame.

Went back to Ipoh on York last night for the Murtabak and a couple of sticks of Chicken Satay — superb! A very busy, but fast-moving, restaurant at lunchtime. Many happy diners. Strongly recommended.

I’m about as qualified to speak about Malaysian food as I am about miniature poodle grooming. Sure, I’m familiar with the basics of what goes into each, but haven’t had enough experience with either to know what differentiates good from great. That said, I’m relatively confident that the combination laksa I had at Ipoh for lunch today falls somewhere in between. It was a large portion of savory, rich coconut milk broth packed with a little bit of everything: beef, chicken, fish balls, shrimp, mussels, and plenty of noodles. All of the ingredients were freshly prepared, and at $ 13 I think it was a good lunch value. The staff were all very friendly, from initially describing the house specialties to later on when they dropped by to inquire how I enjoyed my meal and chat about how laksa was a very popular winter meal, even though I’d just eaten a bowl full in the middle of February. Anyway, judging by how busy it was at lunchtime, Ipoh appears to be a pretty popular spot for fast and affordable Malaysian dishes. It’s just down the street from my hotel, so I may get another chance to try a more season-appropriate selection before I head back home.
